  • Membrane fouling is the main drawback of membrane technology. Frequent membrane cleaning and membrane replacement are, therefore, required to reduce membrane fouling that causes permeate flux reduction, lower rejection, or higher operating pressure. Studies have proved that the alteration of membrane properties is the key controlling factor in lessening membrane fouling. Among stimuli-responsive membranes, thermo-responsive membrane is the most popular, with a drastic phase transition and swelling-shrinking behavior caused by the temperature change. In this study, the thermo-responsive ability of two commercial membranes, PolyCera® Titan membrane and PolyCera® Hydro membrane, at different temperatures was studied on the antifouling function of the membrane in palm oil mill effluent (POME) treatment. The evaluation of the membrane's thermo-responsive ability was done through three cycles of adsorption (fouling) and desorption (defouling) processes in a membrane filtration process. The experimental result depicted that PolyCera® Hydro membrane had a higher membrane permeability of 67.869 L/㎡.h.bar than PolyCera® Titan membrane at 46.011 L/㎡.h.bar. However, the high membrane permeability of PolyCera® Hydro membrane was compensated with low removal efficiency. PolyCera® Titan membrane with a smaller mean pore size had better rejection performance than PolyCera® Hydro membrane for all tested parameters. On the other hand, PolyCera® Titan membrane had a better hydrodynamic cleaning efficiency than PolyCera® Hydro membrane regardless of the hydrodynamic cleaning temperature. The best hydrodynamic cleaning performed by PolyCera® Titan membrane was at 35℃ with the flux recovery ratio (FRR) of 99.17 ± 1.43%. The excellent thermo-responsive properties of the PolyCera® Titan membrane could eventually reduce the frequency of membrane replacement and lessen the use of chemicals for membrane cleaning. This outstanding exploration helps to provide a solution to the chemical industry and membrane technology bottleneck, which is the membrane fouling, thus reducing the operating cost incurred by the membrane fouling.

  • This study focused on diagnosing and analyzing the level of sustainable development for each fishing communities by applying the sustainable development index in the fishing communities to support the policy of revitalizing the fishing communities. In terms of methodology, diagnostic indicators for rural areas were used through previous studies and literature surveys, and three categories, five fields and 27 indicators were finally selected through collecting opinions from experts. After deriving the weight for each indicator in detail, the final sustainable development index of the fishing communities was applied to fishing village fraternity. Based on the results of the analysis of the application of sustainable development cases in fishing communities, policy support should be implemented differentially according to regional decline factors and potential growth factors. In the population and social sector, it is necessary to consider ways to reduce population and reduce aging. In the industrial and economic sectors, fishing activation and systematic support for fishing-related industries should be provided. In the marine and built environment sector, the government's active project execution and budget support are required. In addition, it is expected to be used in various ways in the process of developing fishing communities and establishing revitalization plans that reflect the characteristics of the region.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the perception among participants in the Built Environment Education(BEE) programs for children. And also, hopefully, we would get some strategies for development of BEE program through post-evaluation. The survey was conducted by the students and the parents who were participated in the four BEE programs. The key results are as follows: 1) The way of participation in the programs was limited. We should consider public relation strategies and its sustainable curriculum. 2) The students felt easy to learn from the lecture, but we need to consider the students' ability in craft activities and the level of school grades. 3) Most of the participants was satisfied with the programs. For students, the 'Educational Environment(Hours & Facilities)' was highly correlated with overall satisfaction. On the other hand, in the case of parents, the 'Teacher' was highly correlated with overall satisfaction. 4) Parents were aware of the need to link the BEE program to school education such as a subject of 'Creative Activity.' The BEE as an integrated program would be a school curriculum or contents of STEAM education. At the end of this paper, the meaning of this study was discussed.

  • The thermal effect of a transparent insulated opake wall with solar energy was investigated theoretically. The heat gain through transparent insulated opake wall was studied for relative simple conditions. The stationary heat transport effect was studied for layer which is built on the opake wall. This study shows that a relative low solar radiation intensity causes a great heat reduction through the transparent insulated opake wall. Because the transparent insulation layer is mostly transparent to solar radiation, it is opaque to heat radiation.
