Background: Stroke patients have weak trunk muscle strength due to brain injury, so a single type of exercise is advised for restoring functionality. However, even after intervention, the problem still lies and it is suggested that another intervention method should be applied with exercise in order to deal with such problem. Objectives: To Investigate the effect of bridge exercise combined with functional electrical stimulation (FES) on trunk muscle activity and balance in stroke patients. Design: Randomized controlled trial. Methods: From July to August 2020, twenty stroke patients was sampled, ten patients who mediated bridge exercises combined with functional electrical stimulation were assigned to experiment group I, and ten patients who mediated general bridge exercises were assigned to experiment groupII. For the pre-test, using surface EMG were measured paralyzed rectus abdominis, erector spinae, transverse abdominis/internal oblique muscle activity, and using trunk impairment scale were measured balance. In order to find out immediate effect after intervention, post-test was measured immediately same way pre-test. Results: Change in balance didn't show significant difference within and between groups, but muscle activity of trunk was significant difference rectus abdominis and erector spinae within groups I (P<.01), also between groups was significant difference (P<.05). Conclusion: Bridge exercise combined with FES could improve trunk function more effectively than general bridge exercise due to physiological effect of functional electrical stimulation.

Sargassum serratifolium is a rich source of antioxidant meroterpenoids. The optimal extraction temperature and time for obtaining maximal antioxidant yield, antioxidant activity, and phenolic content from Sargassum serratifolium were determined using response surface methodology (RSM). The ranges of the independent variables for extraction temperature and time were 30-70℃ and 12-36 h, respectively. With increasing temperature and time, the yield increased significantly, while DPPH (2,2-dipheny-1-picrylhydrazyl) radical-scavenging activity and total phenolic content decreased significantly. The optimal extraction temperature and time obtained by RSM were 54℃ and 7 h, respectively, providing a yield of 8.2%, DPPH radical-scavenging activity of 60%, and total phenolic content of 163 mg GAE/g. The findings of this study provide useful information for the development of Sargassum serratifolium extraction processes for the food and cosmetic industries.
This study was designed to compare the Antimicrobial effect of the several antibiotics on anaerobes. After Bacteroides gingivalis was streaked on the surface of Blood agar plates, antibiotic discs were applied and cultured 5 days anaerobically. Following results were obtained 1. All of the examined antibiotics had antimicrobial activity with varying degree. 2. The antimicrobial activity of Clindamycin and Tetracycline was larger than any other antibiotics. Vancomycin showed the lowest activity. Erythromycin and Ampicillin showed the moderate antimicrobial activity. (P<0.05)
Obesity, a condition in which an abnormally large amount of fat is stored in adipose tissue, causing an increase in body weight, has become a major public health concern worldwide. The purpose of this study was to optimize the process for fermented milk for the production of a functional product with an anti-obesity effect by using Lactobacillus plantarum Q180 isolated from human feces. We used a 3-factor, 3-level central composite design (CCD) combined with the response surface methodology (RSM). Concentration of skim milk powder (%, $X_1$), incubation temperature ($^{\circ}C$, $X_2$), and incubation time (h, $X_3$) were used as the independent factors, whereas pH (pH, $Y_1$), anti-lipase activity (%, $Y_2$) and anti-adipogenetic activity (%, $Y_3$) were used as the dependent factors. The optimal conditions of fermented milk for the highest anti-lipase and anti-adipogenetic activity with pH 4.4 were the 9.5% of skim milk powder, $37^{\circ}C$ of incubation temperature, 28 h of incubation time. In the fermentation condition, the predicted values of pH, anti-lipase activity and anti-adipogenetic activity were 4.47, 55.55, and 20.48%, respectively. However, the actual values of pH, anti-lipase activity and anti-adipogenetic activity were 4.50, 52.86, and 19.25%, respectively. These results demonstrate that 9.5% of skim milk powder and incubation at $37^{\circ}C$ for 28 h were the optimum conditions for producing functional fermented milk with an anti-obesity effect.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of muscle activity and muscle strength according to verbal command volume during isokinetic and isometric quadricep exercises. Methods: To measure muscle activity and muscle strength, surface electrodes were attached to the participants, as they sat on a Biodex chair. The isometric exercise was performed three times, with maximum exercise at $30^{\circ}$ bending angle, based on a maximum extension state of the knee at $0^{\circ}$. The average holding time was unified to three seconds. In addition, the isokinetic exercise was performed three times, at $60^{\circ}/sec$. The verbal command ranged between 0∾60 dB and 0∾75 dB. Muscle activity was measured using surface electromyography (4D-MT, Relive, Gimhae, Korea). The Biodex System 4 was used to measure the isometric and isokinetic strength of the nodal line, and 4D-MT was used to measure muscle activity. Results: There were significant improvements in the maximal and relative muscle strengths, when the 0∾ 60 dB and 0∾75 dB verbal commands were applied with isokinetic extension/flexion (p<.05). The isokinetic exercise (0∾75 dB) group showed a significant difference in the vastus medialis oblique muscle activity change (p<.05), while the isometric exercise (0∾75 dB) group showed a significant difference in the rectus femoris muscle activity change (p<.05). Conclusions: Our results reveal that verbal commands effectively improve muscle activity and muscle strength during isokinetic and isometric quadricep exercises.
Statement of problem. Proliferation of Candida albicans is primarily within the plaque on the fitting surface of the denture rather than on the inflamed mucosa. Consequently, the treatment of the denture is equally important as treatment of the tissue. Cleansing and disinfection should be efficiently carried-out as the organisms can penetrate into the voids of the acrylic resin and grow in them, from which they can continue to infect and reinfect bearing tissues. Purpose. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the applicability of photocatalytic reaction to eliminate Candida albicans from acrylic resin denture base, and to investigate the anti-fungal effect with various UVA illumination time. Materials and Methods. The specimens were cured by the conventional method following the manufacturer's instruction using thermal polymerized denture base resin (Vertex RS: Dentimex, Netherlands). $TiO_2$ photocatalyst sol(LT), which is able to be coated at normal temperature, was made from the Ti-alkoxide progenitor. The XRD patterns, TEM images and nitrogen absorption ability of the $TiO_2$ photocatalyst sol(LT) were compared with the commercial $TiO_2$ photocatalyst P-25. The experimental specimens were coated with the mixture of the $TiO_2$ photocatalyst sol(LT) and binder material (silane) using dip-coater, and uncoated resin plates were used as the control group. Crystallinity of $TiO_2$ of the specimen was tested by the XRD. Size, shape and chemical compositions were also analyzed using the FE-SEM/ EDS. The angle and methylene blue degradation efsciency were measured for evaluating the photocatalytic activity of the $TiO_2$ film. Finally, the antifungal activity of the specimen was tested. Candida albicans KCTC 7629(1 ml, initial concentration $10^5$ cells/ ml) were applied to the experiment and control group specimens and subsequently two UVA light source with 10W, 353 nm peak emission were illuminated to the specimens from 15cm above. The extracted $2{\mu}l$ of sample was plated on nutrient agar plate ($Bacto^{TM}$ Brain Heart Infusion; BD, USA) with 10 minute intervals for 120 minute, respectively. It was incubated for 24 hours at $37^{\circ}C$ and the colony forming units (CFUs) were then counted. Results. Compared the characteristics of LT photocatalyst with commercial P-25 photocatalyst, LT were shown higher activity than P-25. The LT coated experimental specimen surface had anatase crystal form, less than 20 nm of particle size and wide specific surface area. To evaluate the photocatalytic activity of specimens, methylene blue degradation reaction were used and about 5% of degradation rate were measured after 2 hours. The average contact angle was less than $20^{\circ}$ indicating that the LT photocatalyst had hydrophilicity. In the antifungal activity test for Candida albicans, 0% survival rate were measured within 30 minute after irradiation of UVA light. Conclusion. From the results reported above, it is concluded that the UVA-LT photocatalytic reaction have an antifungal effect on the denture surface Candida albicans, and so that could be applicable to the clinical use as a cleaning method.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study is to determine the differences between the muscle activity of cranio-cervical flexion and extension muscles according to the types of tools used through a short-term intervention of cranio-cervical static stabilization exercises using small tools. METHODS: A total of fifteen male and female adults in their 20s who showed forward head posture in the overall body posture measurement system participated in this study. Each subject performed cranio-cervical static stabilization exercises about flexion and extension while using a sling, a foam roller, a TOGU ball, and without tools separately, and the muscle activity of the sternocleidomastoid muscle, scalenus anterior and splenius capitis was measured. Each value was measured for 10 seconds a total of three times. The maximum voluntary isometric contraction value was computed using the average during the middle four seconds. RESULTS: Cranio-cervical flexion exercises using various tool types, the average activity of the sternocleidomastoid and scalenus anterior muscles was significantly higher when applying the TOGU ball (p<.05). According to the results of implementing cranio-cervical flexion exercise using various tools, the maximum muscle activity of the sternocleidomastoid muscle was significantly higher for the TOGU ball (p<.05). CONCLUSION: Based on these results, the provision of an unstable surface using small tools rather than a stable surface is recommended as an exercise scheme for proprioceptive stimulation in a forward head posture. Particularly, we recommend using the TOGU ball for the provision of an unstable surface to increase the muscle activity of the sternocleidomastoid muscle and scalenus anterior.
Titanium dioxide ($TiO_2$) particles deposited on different quantitative Fe-treated carbon nanotube (CNT) composites with high photocatalytic activity of visible light were prepared by a modified sol-gel method using TNB as a titanium source. The composites were characterized by BET, XRD, SEM, TEM and EDX, which showed that the BET surface area was related to the adsorption capacity for each composite. From TEM images, surface and structural characterization of for the CNT surface had been carried out. The XRD results showed that the Fe-ACF/$TiO_2$ composite mostly contained an anatase structure with a Fe-mediated compound. EDX results showed the presence of C, O, and Ti with Fe peaks in the Fe-CNT/$TiO_2$ composites. The photocatalytic activity of the composites was examined by degradation of methylene blue (MB) in aqueous solution under visible light, which was found to depend on the amount of CNT. The highest photocatalytic activity among the different composites was related to the optimal content of CNT in the Fe-CNT/$TiO_2$ composites. In particular, the photocatalytic activity of the Fe-CNT/$TiO_2$ composites under visible light was better than that of the CNT/$TiO_2$ composites due to the introduction of Fe particles.
Lipase from Candida rugosa was immobilized on $MgO{\cdot}SiO_2$ hybrid grafted with amine, thiol, cyano, phenyl, epoxy and carbonyl groups. The products were analyzed using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance, low-temperature $N_2$ sorption and elemental analysis. Additionally, the degree of coverage of the oxide material surface with different functional groups and the number of surface functional groups were estimated. The Bradford method was used to determine the quantity of immobilized enzyme. The largest quantity of enzyme (25-28 mg/g) was immobilized on the hybrid functionalized with amine and carbonyl groups. On the basis of hydrolysis reaction of p-nitrophenyl palmitate to p-nitrophenol, it was determined how the catalytic activity of the obtained biocatalysts is affected by pH, temperature, storage time, and repeated reaction cycles. The best results for catalytic activity were obtained for the lipase immobilized on $MgO{\cdot}SiO_2$ hybrids with amine and carbonyl groups. The biocatalytic system demonstrated activity above 40% in the pH range 4-10 and in the temperature range $30-70^{\circ}C$. Lipase immobilized on the $MgO{\cdot}SiO_2$ systems with amine and epoxy groups retains, respectively, around 80% and 60% of its initial activity after 30 days of storage, and approximately 60-70% after 10 reaction cycles.
