Bioinspired CuO Hierarchical Nanostructures for Self-cleaning surfaces and SERS substrates

  • Bioinspired hierarchical nanostructures for self-cleaning s-tnwjurface and SERS substrates are investigated. The multi-level hierarchy is combined with CuO nanowire and additional nanoscale structures. CuO nanowire, which has extremely high aspect ratio, serves as a base structure of multi-level hierarchy and additional flower like structures are placed on the CuO nanowires. Since as-fabricated CuO nanostructures are hydrophilic, the surface is coated with perfluorooctyltrichlorosilane in order to change its wetting property to hydrophobic. While those CuO based nanostructures have a sufficient roughness for superhydrophobic characteristics, hierarchical nanoflowers on nanowire structures lead to a self-cleaning surface. Furthermore, flower like nanostructures provide reentrant curvatures, thus enabling oleophobic property. The surfaces has a repellency even for a tiny droplet (10 nL) of low surface tension liquids (~35 mN/m). On the on hands, nanoflowers provide many number of nanoscale gaps. After a thin layer of silver is deposited on the surface of CuO nanostructures, those nanoscale gaps act as hot-spot for surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). To analyze SERS enhancement of the surfaces, Raman shift is measured with varying molar density of 4-Mercaptopyridine from mM to pM. From these results, hierarchical CuO nanostructures are suitable for self-maintenance and cost effective SERS sensing applications.

  • A grooved surface with anisotropic wettability was fabricated on a silicon substrate using photolithography, reactive ion etching, and a KOH etching process. The contact angles (CAs) of water droplets were measured and compared with the theoretical values in the Cassie state and Wenzel state. The experimental results showed that the contact area between a water droplet and a solid surface was important to determine the wettability of the water. The specimens with native oxide layers presented CAs ranging from $71.6^{\circ}$ to $86.4^{\circ}$. The droplets on the specimens with a native oxide layer could be in the Cassie state because they had relatively smooth surfaces. However, the CAs of the specimens with thick oxide layers ranged from $33.4^{\circ}$ to $59.1^{\circ}$. This indicated that the surface roughness for a specimen with a relatively thick oxide layer was higher, and the water droplet was in the Wenzel state. From the CA measurement results, it was observed that the wetting on the grooved surface was anisotropic for all of the specimens.

  • The effect of wheel surface condition on solidification behavior of Al-Cu ribbon was investigated in order to establish extreme levels of heat extraction. The condition of wheel surface was changed either by heating the wheel surface up to $200^{\circ}C$ or by coating boron nitride(BN) onto the the rim of a wheel. Heating the wheel surface up to $200^{\circ}C$ improved the wetting behavior between the molten metal and the rotating wheel, leading to an increase in the ratio of columnar structure to the entire thickness of Al-4.3wt%Cu and Al-33.2wt%Cu ribbons. For Al-4.3wt%Cu ribbon, assuming one grain as a single heterogeneous nucleation event at the contact point, the nucleation density with the wheel surface heated to $200^{\circ}C$, was $4{\times}10^6/mm^2$, and in the cases of BN coating with thin and thick layers, $10^5/mm^2$ and $5{\times}10^4/mm^2$, respectively. The largest cooling capacity of the wheel corresponded to the heated wheel surface, and as the thickness of BN coating layer increased, the cooling capacity of the wheel gradually decreased.

  • $WS_2$ particles were added to micro-diamond blades with Cu/Sn binding metal as lubricants to improve cutting efficiency. It was found in previous works that the added $WS_2$ lubricant could reduce remarkably the momentary energy consumption during dicing tests but increased wear rate slightly owing to weak bonding between lubricant particles and bond metals. In the present work, the surface of $WS_2$ lubricant particles were etched for activating the surface of $WS_2$ particles that provide even distribution of particles during powder mixing process and improvement of wetting at the interfaces between $WS_2$ particles and molten Cu/Sn bond metals during pressurized sintering so that could provide the improved strength of micro-blades and result in extended life. Chipping behavior of workpiece with the types of micro-blades including $WS_2$ were compared because it is important in semiconductor and micro-packaging industries to control average roughness and straightness of sliced surface which is closely related with quality.

풀비등에서 소형 사각기둥핀 배열형상에 따른 FC-72의 응축특성 (Condensing Characteristics of Pin-finned Surfaces on Pool Boiling in FC-72)

  • As the electronic industry rapidly develops, the heat flux from state-of-the-art electronics increases up to $10^6\;W/m^2$. For this reason, the development of a new cooling technology for high heat flux applications is strongly required. Recently, some cooling technologies using boiling and condensation of working fluid are being adopted to overcome such a technical barrier. In the present study, a smooth boiling surface ($14{\times}14\;mm^2$) was immersed in FC-72 and its vapor was condensed by four different types of condensation surfaces ($30{\times}30\;mm^2$ base). The condensing surfaces were composed of a smooth surface and $1{\times}1\;mm^2$ pin-finned surfaces of 2 mm height with 0.3, 0.5 and 1 mm array spacing. Boiling and condensing characteristics were investigated in detail on their combinations of boiling and condensing surfaces. For a smooth boiling surface the results obtained showed that the pin-finned condensing surface with 1 mm array spacing yielded the best performance and the smooth condensation surface did the worst. Furthermore hysteresis phenomena could be reduced by using enhanced condensing surfaces.

친환경 준용매계 세정제의 제조와 그 세정 특성 (Preparation and Cleaning Properties of Environmental Friendly Semi-Solvent Cleaning Agents)

  • 나프텐계 탄화수소, terpene계 천연 용제, 계면활성제 및 물을 이용하여 친환경적 준용매계 세정제를 제조하고 이들의 물리적 특성과 flux 및 grease 오염물에 대한 세정효율을 측정하였다. 준용매계 세정제의 물성은 pH가 6.0~6.7의 약산성으로 중성에 가까운 값을 나타내었으며 표면장력은 27.4~28.4 dyne/cm의 값을 나타내었다. 또한 wetting index는 물이 소량 들어간 경우 8.65~12.46, 물이 들어가지 않은 경우 11.99~17.43의 값을 가졌으며 나프텐계 탄화수소 30 wt%, terpene계 천연 용제 45 wt%, 계면활성제 13 wt%, 보조계면활성제 12 wt%, 물 0 wt%의 조성으로 제조한 세정제가 17.43으로 가장 큰 값을 가졌으며 세정 효율 역시 flux에 대하여 98.64%, grease에 대하여 93.44%로 우수하였다. 전기 전도도는 소량의 물을 첨가한 경우 $0.5{\sim}0.9{\mu}s/cm$의 값을 나타내어 물이 용제 중에 균일하게 분산되어 있는 W/O형의 준용매계 세정제임을 확인하였다

현장 강우계측을 통한 편마암 풍화토층의 침투특성 평가 (Evaluation of Infiltration Characteristics of Rainfall in Gneiss Weathered Soil by a Field Monitoring)

  • 강우에 의한 풍화토층의 침투 특성은 함수비 변화에 따른 침윤선 거동으로부터 파악이 가능하다. 토층내 침투수에 의한 침윤선 형성은 흙매질의 밀도와 입도분포 특성 및 투수계수와도 밀접한 관계를 갖고 있으며, 침윤선의 침투속도는 토층의 투수계수와 거의 동일한 개념으로 볼 수 있다. 이 연구에서는 편마암 분포지역의 산사태 현장모니터링 시스템을 이용하여 표토층을 기준으로 50 cm 및 80 cm 깊이에 대한 토층내 체적함수비 변화로부터 각각의 침투속도를 현장 스케일에서 산정하였으며, 이 지역 토층의 불교란 시료를 채취한 후 실내시험을 통해 구한 투수계수와 비교하였다. 불교란 시료의 투수계수는 $3.15{\times}10^{-3}cm/sec$이며, 체적함수비 변화로 계산된 침투속도는 평균 $1.87{\times}10^{-3}cm/sec$로써 두 배 가량 낮게 나타났다. 그 이유는 현장에서의 침투속도는 매질의 공극과 입도분포에 민감하게 영향을 받기 때문에 실내실험을 통해 산정된 값보다는 다소 낮은 값을 갖기 때문으로 판단된다. 표토층의 체적함수비 및 침투속도에 영향을 미치는 강우강도는 산악 지형을 고려해 볼 때, 일평균 20 mm 이상의 강우가 발생하였을 경우에 토층의 침윤선 범위를 확대시키는 것으로 나타났다.

강우를 고려한 불포화 지반변형의 영향인자 평가 (Characterization of Physical Factor of Unsaturated Ground Deformation induced by Rainfall)

  • 지반의 수분량 분포 및 강우에 의한 침윤선 거동과 지하수 수위 분포조사와 같이 광역지역을 대상으로 한 물리탐사기법인 지하투과 레이다탐사(ground penetrating radar, GPR) 및 전기비저항탐사(electrical resistivity survey)등을 이용해 광역조사가 이루어지며, 이에 반해 지반의 유전 반응(dielectric responses)을 이용한 유전율 측정법(permittivity method)은 협소한 지점에 대한 보다 정확한 지반의 물성 파악을 위해 다양한 연구분야에서 적용되어 왔다. 본 연구에서는 불포화 지반에 인공강우를 내려 침윤선의 침투거동을 파악하기 위하여 토층의 수분량 변화를 frequency domain reflectometry 시험법을 적용하여 측정하고, 간극수압과 간극 공기압의 변화는 간극수압계로 측정하였다. 이들 측정센서는 일정 깊이의 불포화 화강풍화토 공시체 몰드에 매설하고, 상단부에서부터 강우의 침투수 거동을 계측하여 물성치 변화로부터 수분분포 및 침윤선 분포특성을 평가하는 기법을 제안하였다. 지반 변형을 효율적으로 평가하기 위해 지반의 체적함수비, 간극수압 및 간극공기압의 측정 기술을 기존의 측정법과 비교해 신속하고 정량적으로 파악할 수 있는 측정방법에 대한 연구를 진행할 예정이다.

상아질 표면의 건조에 따른 습윤상태가 레진세멘트의 접착에 미치는 영향 (EFFECT OF WETTING CONDITION ON BONDING OF RESIN CEMENT TO DENTIN)

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of wetting condition made by drying time on bonding of resin cement to dentin. Freshly extracted bovine teeth were grinded to expose flat dentin surfaces. After the exposed dentin surfaces were treated with pretreatment agents and water rinse, each wetting condition of dentin surfaces was made according to drying times and methods including slight blow bry for I-second by air syringe, blow dry for 20-second by air syringe, and 12-hour dry in desiccator respectively. and then, previously made composite resin specimens were bonded onto each conditioned dentin surface of the specimen using Panavia-21(Kuraray Co.), Bistite(Tokuso Co.), and Choice(use with All bond-2, Bisco Inc.) resin cement according as manufacturer's instruction. Bonded specimens were stored in $37^{\circ}C$ distilled water for 24 hours, then the tensile bond strength was measured, cohesive failure rate was calculated, and fractured dentin surfaces and acrylic rod sides were examined under scanning electron microscope. The result were as follows ; In the group of bonding with Panavia-21 resin cement, higher tensile bond strength was seen in 12-hour dry group than in I-second and 20-second dry group(p<0.01). In the group of bonding with Bistite resin cement, higher tensile bond strength was seen in 1-second dry group than in 20-second and 12-hour dry group(p<0.01). In the group of bonding with Choice resin cement, no significant differences of bond strength under given drying time were seen. Cohesive failure rates derived from the groups of bonding with Panavia-21 and Choice resin cement were increased with the increase of tensile bond strength in each drying time. On SEM examination of fractured surface, adhesive failure mode with fractured resin tags was mostly seen in wet condition with I-second drying time in the group of bonding with Panavia-21 resin cement, mixed failure mode with shortened and fractured resin tag was seen in the group of bonding with Bistite resin cement, and regardless of drying time, and cohesive-adhesive mixed failure mode with fracture of 'Hollow' typed resin tags was mainly seen in the group of bonding with Choice resin cement.

Hyaluronic acid 함유 콘택트렌즈의 습윤성과 착용감 향상 효과 연구 (A Study on Improvement of Wettability and Comfort in Contact lens with Hyaluronic acid)

  • 목적: 인공눈물, 렌즈용 다목적 용액, 화장품, 근골격계 용제에 널리 사용되고 있는 히알루론산(hyaluronic acid, HA)의 콘택트렌즈의 습윤성과 착용감에 대한 효과를 알아보기 위해 HA가 첨가된 콘택트렌즈(+HA)와 HA가 첨가되지 않은 렌즈(-HA)를 임상 평가하여 비교하였다. 방법: 안질환이 없는 대학생 28명을 대상으로 하여 4주 동안 우안에는 HA가 첨가된 렌즈(+HA, With HA)를 좌안에는 HA가 첨가되지 않은 렌즈(-HA, Without HA)를 착용하여, 좌안을 대조군으로 우안을 비교하였다. 이 때, 렌즈 도수는 등가구면으로 처방하고, 자동굴절검사기를 이용해 덧댐굴절검사를 한 뒤 2주와 4주 동안 렌즈 착용 후 눈물검사, 전안부 검사, 피팅 용이성 평가, 표면 습윤성 검사, 설문조사를 시행하였다. 결과: 히알루론산이 첨가된 렌즈(+HA)가 -HA 렌즈보다 우수한 습윤성을 보였으며, 눈물량은 +HA 렌즈 착용자에서는 4주 동안 차이가 크지 않았지만, -HA 렌즈 착용자에서는 4주가 되면서 눈물량이 줄어드는 결과를 보였다. +HA와 -HA 렌즈 착용자의 충혈정도는 차이를 보이지 않았으며, 렌즈 피팅은 +HA 렌즈에서 용이한 것으로 나타났다. 설문조사 결과에서 착용감, 습윤감, 세척의 용이성과 건조감은 +HA 렌즈가 -HA 렌즈에 비해 우수한 결과를 보였으나, 충혈정도와 렌즈 취급성은 차이가 적은 것으로 나타났다. 결론: 히알루론산이 첨가된 소프트콘택트렌즈(+HA)는 HA가 첨가되지 않은 소프트콘택트렌즈(-HA)에 비해 렌즈착용에 따른 표면 습윤성을 높임으로써 착용감을 증진시키는 것으로 사료된다.
