In this paper, we propose a new algorithm that obtains the surfac eorientation of the texture image using structural approaches. The proposed method showed that structural approaches can be effectively used in 3-D analysis of textures as well as description and segmentation without additional information. By examining fourier power spectrum of the texture image, we detemine the tilt of the textured surface. Then, 1-D projection information of the texture in the obtained tilt direction is used to compute the slant. Using the obtained information, we can compute the vanishing point, and rearrange the textured surface with lines converging to the vanishing point and lines perpendicular to the tilt direction. In the experimental results, we have ascertained the proposed algorithm can make a rpecise 3-D analysis of structural textures.
A seam carving based micro-crack detection method is proposed which aims at detecting the micro-crack regions in heterogeneously textured surface of polycrystalline solar cells. By calculating the seam which is a connected path of low energy pixels in the image, the micro-crack regions can be detected. Experimental results show that the proposed seam carving based micro-crack detection method has superior efficiency in detecting the micro-crack without background noise pixels and the algorithm's computation time is less than the conventional algorithm.

Biaxially textured Ni was fabricated by electrodeposition process and delaminated from the biaxially textured cathode surface for further buffer layer deposition process. Those electrode posited Ni substrates showed well-developed biaxial texture and smooth surface. In order to improve the thermal stability of Ni substrates, Mn was alloyed by adding Mn precursor into the electrodeposition bath. Subsequently, $CeO_2$ buffer layers are deposited by MOD process to prevent interfacial reaction between superconductor and substrates. In particular, Bismuth oxide was added to $CeO_2$ to realize lower temperature processing of buffer layers. The microstructure and texture development of each layers have been investigated. Preliminary results shows that all electro/chemical process can be a candidate for cost effective route to YBCO coated conductor.
To reduce manufacturing costs of crystalline silicon solar cells, silicon wafers have become thinner. In relation to this, the properties of the aluminium-back surface field (Al-BSF) are considered an important factor in solar cell performance. Generally, screen-printing and a rapid thermal process (RTP) are utilized together to form the Al-BSF. This study evaluates Al-BSF formation on a (111) textured back surface compared with a (100) flat back surface with variation of ramp up rates from 18 to $89^{\circ}C$/s for the RTP annealing conditions. To make different back surface morphologies, one side texturing using a silicon nitride film and double side texturing were carried out. After aluminium screen-printing, Al-BSF formed according to the RTP annealing conditions. A metal etching process in hydrochloric acid solution was carried out to assess the quality of Al-BSF. Saturation currents were calculated by using quasi-steady-state photoconductance. The surface morphologies observed by scanning electron microscopy and a non-contacting optical profiler. Also, sheet resistances and bulk carrier concentration were measured by a 4-point probe and hall measurement system. From the results, a faster ramp up during Al-BSF formation yielded better quality than a slower ramp up process due to temperature uniformity of silicon and the aluminium surface. Also, in the Al-BSF formation process, the (111) textured back surface is significantly affected by the ramp up rates compared with the (100) flat back surface.

To obtain the effect of texturing process in Solar cells, the Si-wafers were textured by using the IPA+DI water mixed etching solution with KOH alkaline. All samples were analyzed by the scanning electron microscopy for the surface images, and it was researched the correlation between the efficiency of optical properties and the effect of texturing. From the results of the surface images obtained by SEM, mc-Si wafer shows a isotropic surface but sc-Si wafers displays the unisotropic surface. The reflectance was improved at the sc-Si wafer textured uniformly, and the reflectance of over etched-samples increased.

The increase of energetic efficiency in plane bearing is getting more important in the transfer mechanism of semi-conductor and display panel manufacturing processes. To accomplish this objective, the technique of surface texturing on bearing surface has recently emerged as one of the most effective candidates. In this study, the effects of various pattern parameters on two bearing performance indices(load carrying capacity and effective friction coefficient) are investigated through a semi-analytic method, i.e., the 2-dimensional Reynolds equation incorporated into the finite difference scheme. Here, cavitation effect is also taken into account by employing an appropriate numerical scheme. In this study, the patterns in the textured surface are composed of a series of semi-spheres or semi-ellipsoids in shape. The effects of their size and number density on the performance indices are examined through the performance of various numerical experiments. Also, the effects of the anisotropy of the semi-ellipsoidal pattern on the bearing's lubrication characteristics are investigated and discussed.
Friction reduction between machine components is important for improving their efficiency and lifespan. In recent years, surface texturing has received considerable attention as a viable means to enhance the efficiency and tribological performance of highly sliding mechanical components such as parallel thrust bearings, mechanical face seals, and piston rings. In this study, we perform lubrication analysis to investigate the effect of dimple shapes and orientations on the lubrication characteristics of a surface textured parallel thrust bearing. Numerical analysis involves solving the continuity and Navier-Stokes equations using a commercial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code, FLUENT. We use dimples consisting of hemispherical and different semiellipsoidal orientations for simulation. We compare pressure and streamline distributions, load capacity, friction force, and leakage flowrate for different numbers of dimples and orientations. We find that the dimple shapes, orientations, and their numbers starting from an inlet influence the lubrication characteristics. The results show that partial texturing of the bearing inlet region, and the ellipsoidal dimples with the major axis aligned along the lubricant flow direction exhibit the best lubrication characteristics in terms of higher load capacity and lower friction. The results can be used in the design of optimum dimple characteristics for parallel thrust bearings, for which further research is required.
High quality ZnO:Al films were prepared on glass substrates by in-line RF magnetron sputtering and their surface morphologies were modified by wet-etching process in dilute acid solution to improve optical properties for application to silicon thin film solar cells as front electrode. The as-deposited films show a strong preferred orientation in [001] direction under our experimental conditions. A low resistivity below $5{\times}10^{-4}{\Omega}{\cdot}cm$ and high optical transmittance above 80% in a visible range are achieved in the films deposited at optimized conditions. After wet-etching, the surface morphologies of the films are changed dramatically depending on the deposition conditions, especially working pressure. The optical properties such as total/diffuse transmittance, haze and angular resolved distribution of light are varied significantly with the surface morphology feature, whereas the electrical properties are seldom changed. The cell performances of silicon thin film solar cells fabricated on the textured films are also evaluated in detail with comparison of commercial $SnO_2$:F films.

Piezoelectric actuators, which utilize piezoelectric crystals or ceramics, are commonly used in precision positioning applications, offering high-speed response and precise control. However, the use of low-performance ceramics and expensive single crystals is limiting their versatile use in the actuator market, necessitating the development of both high-performance and cost-effective piezoelectric materials capable of delivering higher forces and displacements. The use of textured Pb (lead)-based piezoelectric ceramics formed by so-called templated grain growth method has been identified as a promising strategy to address the performance and cost issue. This review article provides insights into recent advances in texturing Pb-based piezoelectric ceramics for improved performance in actuation applications. We discussed the relevant issues in detail focusing on current challenges and emerging trends in the textured piezoelectric ceramics for their reliability and performance in actuator applications. We discussed in detail focusing on current challenges and emerging trends of textured piezoelectric ceramics for their reliability and performance in actuator applications. In conclusion, the article provides an outlook on the future direction of textured piezoelectric ceramics in actuator applications, highlighting the potential for further success in this field.
