  • Most machines lose a lot of energy due to friction. Wear due to friction also reduces performance. Therefore, it is important to reduce friction on the surface to improve energy efficiency and decrease wear. Surface texturing refers to making patterns on the surface for reducing friction. There are many surface texturing methods, such as using lasers, abrasive jet machining, and so on. Recently, mechanical manufacturing methods, such as cutting and grinding, have been highlighted. Among them, the grinding method has the advantage of making patterns in large areas quickly. Therefore, it is appropriate for surface texturing on large machines. This paper is a study on the slope change of the surface texturing pattern using grinding. Therefore, we researched the slopes of the patterns corresponding to "spindle speed and feed rate" and "curvature of workpiece surface" using a mathematical model and experiment. As a result, we made a proper mathematical model concerning our research. Therefore, using the mathematical model in this paper, we could predict the slope change of the pattern according to grinding conditions.

  • Investigation methods of cut slope are conducted generally only geological surface survey to gain engineering geological data of cut slopes. These methods have many problems such as limitation of investigation for a special area. So geophysical investigations such as geotomography, seismic and electrical resistivity methods have been used to search for failure surface in potential failure slopes or failed slopes. But investigation method using the borehole camera is recently a used method and it is thought that this method is more reliable method than other investigation methods because of being able to see by the eyes. Therefore, this paper was conducted investigations of 4 boleholes and BIPS (Borehole Image Processing System) to search for potential sliding surfaces and was applied to obtain information of discontinuity on failed highway slope. As the results of BIPS, we could decide potential sliding surface in the slope and conducted to check slope stability. And decided slope stability measures.

  • Even through hundreds of meters high steep slope is stable, only several ten meters high dull slope could be collapsed. This means that stability of slope is depend on the slope of a surface of discontinuity like faults existing in rock floor. The existence and nonexistence of a discontinuity surface have a very important effect to the stability of a rock floor slope, and examination for geologic peculiarity is one of the most important pant for investigation of stabilities. Accordingly, in the study, we extracted three dimension coordinates of slope with close photogrammetry, and through interpretations of three dimensions' position of fault within rock floor slope, we expect this will be use as a important sauces when evaluate stabilities of rock floor slope.

  • Purpose : This study was conducted among 195 adults in their 20s. To analyze the impact of the slope types of the scapulae on the plantar surface of the foot, the average pressure (AP), the maximum pressure (MP), the average of local distribution values, and the average movement of the center of pressure (COP) of the different slope types of the scapulae were compared. Method : The anterior-posterior slopes of the scapulae were measured by comparing the slopes of the left and right sides of the scapulae based on the differences in the height and the slope of the coracoid process and the angulus inferior scapulae. Those whose left side of the scapulae had an anterior slope were categorized as type 1, and those whose right side of the scapulae had an anterior slope, as type 2. The average plantar pressure, the center of plantar pressure, the maximum plantar pressure, and local distribution values were analyzed using a plantar pressure analyzer of the FSA. Result : In terms of the AP of the left and right feet, there was no statistically significant difference both in types 1 and 2 on the left and right feet. The comparison results of the MP and the average of local distribution values of the two slope types of the scapulae showed that there was no statistically significant difference on the X-axis both in types 1 and 2 on the left and right feet, but that there was a large statistically significant difference on the Y-axis both in types 1 and 2. That is, the MP of the right foot of the left anterior slope type was located more on the hindfoot than that of the right anterior slope type, and the MP of the left foot of the left anterior slope type was located more on the hindfoot than that of right anterior slope type. Conclusion : This study can be used as fundamental data to predict differences in the location and size of the COP and changes in plantar pressure distribution depending on the slope types of the scapulae, and control the distribution for therapeutic purposes.

  • A floating-type wave power pump is a device which sends air into water by using wave power. The floating-type wave power pump has the new configuration composed of a curved surface reflection board, a slope, and phase plates. As a result of a water-tank experiment it turned out that the floating-type wave power pump with a curved surface reflection board and a slope raised power and efficiency in the wide wavelength waves. The result of a marine experiment was also preferable. The floating-type wave power pump sends air into the sea by using wave power, so it can be used for the improvement of marine environment. In addition, the floating body constituted of a curved surface reflection board, a slope, and phase plates, is effective as a device to utilize the energy of a wave. Therefore, it can be widely used for a wave power generation, pumping up deep seawater.

  • In limit equilibrium methods(LEM), all methods employ the same definition of the safety factor as a ratio of the shear strength of the soil to the shear stress required for equilibrium, employing certain assumptions with regard to equilibrium. In addition, in the conventional finite element method of analysis, the minimum safety factor is obtained assuming certain slip surfaces after the state of stress are found. Although the stress states are obtained from the finite element method(FEM), the slope stability analysis follows the conventional method that assumes a potential slip surface. In this study, a slope stability analysis based on FEM is developed to locate the slip surface by tracking the weakest points in the slope based on the local safety factor considering the magnitude and direction of the shear stresses. It has also been applied to be compared with the slip surfaces predicted by LEM. A computer program has been developed to draw contour lines of the local safety factors automatically. This method is illustrated through a simple hypothetical slope, a natural soil slope, and a dam slope. The developed method matches very well with the conventional LEM methods, with slightly lower global safety factors.

  • An experimental program has been carried out to investigate the effect of edge-slope on compressive strength of concrete specimens. In this study, effect of such slope was investigated by testing 100 standard cylinder specimens and 40 standard cubes. When molds are put on a slanted place, wet concrete starts to flow through the open end of mold. It keeps flowing until it reaches to a parallel surface with the place over which it was placed. That creates a sloped surface over the loading area. Experimental results revealed significant relationships between failure loads and slope of loading surface for cylinders. Angled cracks occurred in sloped cylinder specimens. Tension cracks occurred in cube specimens. Fracture mechanisms were also evaluated by using finite element analyses approach. Experiments yielded an exponential curve with bandwidth for cylinders. Average value of curve is $y={\frac{\pi}{2}}e^{-cf}$ between slope and compressive strength. Inclination is much effective parameter for cylinders than cubes.

  • HEC-RAS model is used for estimation of rating-curve of Musung in Wi stream. Discharge is computed from stage estimated by HEC-RAS model, is compared with the discharge of water surface slope method. The relative deviation of observed and computed discharge is 5.37%, and shows as a good results. A rating-curve by HEC-RAS model shows better results than by water surface slope method.

  • Behavior of rock mass depend on the mechanical properties of intact rock and geometrical property of discontinuity distributed in rock mass. In case of rock slope, particularly, location of slope failure surface and behavior after failure are changed due to discontinuities. In this study, two 3D slope stability analysis methods were developed for two different failure types which are circular failure and planar failure, considering that failure type of rock slope is dependent on scale of discontinuity which was then applied to real rock slope to review the applicability. In case of circular failure, stable condition was maintained in natural dry condition, which however became unstable when the moisture content of the surface was increased by rainfall. In case of planar failure, rock slope become more unstable comparing to dry condition which is attributable to decrease in friction angle of discontinuity surface due to rainfall. Viewing analysis result above, analysis method proved to have well incorporated the phenomenon occurred on real slope from the analysis result, demonstrating its applicability to reviewing the slope stability as well as to maintaining the slope.

  • Using artificial rainfall simulator, the soil loss, which is deemed as the most cause of muddy water problem among Non-point source (NPS) pollutant, was studied by the analysis of direct runoff, groundwater discharge, and soil water storage properties concerned with rainfall intensity, slope of area, and land cover. The direct runoff showed increasing tendency in both straw covered and bared soil as slope increases from 5% to 20%. The direct runoff volume from straw covered surface were much lower than bared surface. The infiltration capacity of straw covered surface increased, because the surface sealing by fine material of soil surface didn't occur due to the straw covering. Under the same rainfall intensity and slope condition, 2.4~8.2 times of sediment yield were occurred from bared surface more than straw covered surface. The volume of infiltration increased due to straw cover and the direct runoff flow decreased with decrease of tractive force in surface. To understand the relationship of the rate of direct runoff, groundwater discharge, and soil water storage by the rainfall intensity, slope, and land cover, the statistical test was performed. It shows good relationship between most of factors, except between the rate of groundwater storage and rainfall intensity.
