Internal erosion around pipes can lead to the failure of earth dams through various mechanisms. This study investigates the displacement patterns in earth dam models under three different failure modes due to internal erosion, using digital image correlation (DIC) methods. Three failure modes—erosion along a pipe (FM1), pipe leakage leading to soil erosion (FM2), and erosion in a pipe due to defects (FM3)—are analyzed using two- and three-dimensional image- processing techniques. The internal displacement of the cross-sectional area and the surface displacement of the downstream slope in the dam models are monitored using an image acquisition system. Physical model tests reveal that FM1 exhibits significant displacement on the upper surface of the downstream slope, FM2 shows focused displacement around the pipe defect, and FM3 demonstrates increased displacement on the upstream slope. The variations in internal and surface displacements with time depend on the segmented area and failure mode. Analyzing the relationships between internal and surface displacements using Pearson correlation coefficients reveals various displacement patterns for the segmented areas and failure modes. Therefore, the image-based characterization methods presented in this study may be useful for analyzing the displacement distribution and behavior of earth dams around pipes, and further, for understanding and predicting their failure mechanisms.
Kirpich formula was selected as the proper formula for calculating the concentration time at island streams. Kirpich formula can be applied for the expanded range from surface area of $0.453km^2$ and channel bed slope of $3{\sim}5%$ to surface area of $2.0km^2$ and channel bed slope of 1.5%.
In many application of response surface methodology, good estimation of the derivatives of the response function may be as important or perhaps more important than estimation of mean response. Using a graphical method, we have studied the effect of outliers, missing observations, and design augmentation with respect to the slope estimation in the response surf ace designs.
The slope surface at a linking road construction from a geological stratum situation and a spot investigation weathering about the base rock. We became formation the slope to very disadvantageous base rock. A stability review result confirmed report of the slope were difficult and presented the stability countermeasure. We executed the slope to the purpose to augment safely.
The slope-related disasters in Korea usually occur between July and September during the typhoon and localized heavy rain. This means that the rainfall is the most important factor that leads to the slope-related disasters. The slope-related disasters can happen at very short time and lead to big damage. To forecast the change of the heave of the groundwater in slope the Seep/w program was used.
A new design concept, called axis-slope-rotatability, is presented for the design of experiments with mixtures. This is an analogue of the Box-Hunter (1957) rotatability for second order response surface designs. By choice of design, it is possible to make the variance of the estimated slopes along the component axes constant for all axial points equidistant from the center point of the factor space. This property is called axis-slope-rotatability for mixture experiments. When the Scheffe's second degree polynomial is used, it is shown that some symmetry conditions are sufficient for axis-slope-rotatability. Several designs having this property are illustrated.
For the tracking of three dimensional free surface motions, a method referred to as the Volume of Fluid(VOF) algorithm is extended. In order to calculate the slope of three dimensional free surface which is the most important for the advection algorithm that decides the amount of fluid from cell to cell and for the application of free surface boundary condition, a simple method utilizing two dimensional slope informations is introduced. The extended algroithm is tested by demonstrating the simulation of a propagating sinusoidal wave through the channel whose width changes abruptly.
This paper is to investigate the failure surface and modes in a soil mass by a excavation of the model ground. To study the failure surface for the excavated slope, centrifugal model tests were performed by changing the angle of the excavated slope(50, 75, $90^{\circ}$) and the ground condition($D_r$=60, 90%, dry and submerged ground). Excavation was simulated during the centrifuge tests by operating a valve that allowed the zinc chloride solvent to drain from the excavation. Results of model tests were compared with those obtained with theoretical solutions using limit equilibrium analysis method. The results of model tests show that, there is a failure to create a straight line in the low angle of excavated surface and a create a circle as the angle increases. Also, as the angle of excavated surface is increasing, the angle of the failure surface increases. The failure length in the submerged ground increases approximately 1.10~1.34 times more than that of the dry ground.
$$Runoff=a(s^{0.5}+l^b)(Rainfall-80(1-e^{-bl}))------(9)$$ 이 식에서 a는 토양의 침투특성과 관련된 토양계수, b는 지표 피복의 영향을 나타내는 지표피복계수, s는 경사각(radian), l은 경사장(m)이다. a는 토성에 따라 0.5~0.6으로 나타났으며 세립질일 수록 값이 컸다. b는 피복조건에 따라 나지에서 0.06, 콩 재배시 0.5 정도로 평가되었다.
The aim of this study was to analyze the slope stability relating to the failure of cut slopes and the characteristics of stress-strain relations obtained by limit equilibrium method, finite element method, and stereographic projection method for the reinforced cut slopes. The following conclusions were made : 1.To use stereographic projection method led to little possibility to take the toppling and wedge failure while to use the other methods led to the failure. It was recommended to reduce the slope inclination from 1:1 to 1: 1.5~1 :1.8 and adopt coir mesh method to protect the slope surface. position with the horizontal displacement after final excavation moved to the excavation base. The maximum shear strain values concentrated at the excavation base indicated the possibility to induce the local failure. 3. It was recommended that the slope inclination for blast rock with the slope height larger than l0m was 1: 0.5, 1:1, and 1: 1~1 :1.5 for hard rocks, soft and ordinary rocks, and ripping and soils, respectively. 4. Berm width criteria for blast rock with the slope height larger than l0m were recommended as follow : 2~3m per 20m slope height for hard rocks, 1 ~2m per l0m slope height for soft and ordinary rocks, 1 ~ l.5m per 5m slope height for ripping and soils.
