전기역학적 스크린을 이용한 집진판 표면 위 입자 세정성능 연구 (A study on cleaning performance of particles on collection plates using an electrodynamic screen)

  • An electrostatic precipitator (ESP) has a low pressure drop and a high collection efficiency but its collection efficiency can be reduced due to dust accumulation on the collection plates during long-term operations. In order to maintain the initial dust collection efficiency, it is necessary to periodically clean the collection plates. The common cleaning methods are using physical impacts or water sprays. These cleaning methods can lead to damage to the collection plate or generate wastewater. Herein, we implemented an electrodynamic screen (EDS) for ESP cleaning and evaluated its surface cleaning performance of particles. The EDS is an electrostatic system that can electrostatically repel particles on surfaces, allowing it to clean the ESP without causing damage and wastewater generation. Our evaluation included the analysis of the effects of AC voltage characteristics, electrode configuration and environmental conditions on the cleaning performance of the EDS with the aim of achieving effective surface cleaning. It has been demonstrated that activating the EDS cleans up to 65% of the particles on the surface, which indicates about 94% of our target cleaning zone.

Detection Limit of a NaI(Tl) Survey Meter to Measure 131I Accumulation in Thyroid Glands of Children after a Nuclear Power Plant Accident

  • Background: This study examined the detection limit of thyroid screening monitoring conducted at the time of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant (FDNPP) accident in 2011 using a Monte Carlo simulation. Materials and Methods: We calculated the detection limit of a NaI(Tl) survey meter to measure 131I accumulation in the thyroid gland of children. Mathematical phantoms of 1- and 5-year-old children were developed in the simulation of the Particle and Heavy Ion Transport code System code. Contamination of the body surface with eight radionuclides found after the FDNPP accident was assumed to have been deposited on the neck and shoulder area. Results and Discussion: The detection limit was calculated as a function of ambient dose rate. In the case of 40 Bq/cm2 contamination on the body surface of the neck, the present simulations showed that residual thyroid radioactivity corresponding to thyroid dose of 100 mSv can be detected within 21 days after intake at the ambient dose rate of 0.2 µSv/hr and within 11 days in the case of 2.0 µSv/hr. When a time constant of 10 seconds was used at the dose rate of 0.2 µSv/hr, the estimated survey meter output error was 5%. Evaluation of the effect of individual differences in the location of the thyroid gland confirmed that the measured value would decrease by approximately 6% for a height difference of ±1 cm and increase by approximately 65% for a depth of 1 cm. Conclusion: In the event of a nuclear disaster, simple measurements carried out using a NaI(Tl) scintillation survey meter remain effective for assessing 131I intake. However, it should be noted that the presence of short-half-life radioactive materials on the body surface affects the detection limit.

함평만 조간대의 표층퇴적물과 집적률의 계절변화 (Seasonal Variation of Surface Sediments and Accumulation Rate on the Intertidal Flats in Hampyong Bay, Southwestern Coast of Korea)

  • 한국 서해 남부 함평만 조간대의 현생퇴적작용을- 규명하기 위하여 안악조간대와 시목초간대에 설정된 각각의 측선들에서 27개월(1994. 10~1996. 12) 동안 약 2개월 간격으로 표층퇴적물의 입도분포와 집적률 변화를 조사하였다. 계절에 따른 표층퇴적물의 입도분포 변화는 반입구 가까이 북측에 위치한 안악조간대보다는 만 안쪽의 남측에 위치한 시목조간대에서 뚜렷하였으며 특히 만조선과 간조선 부근에서 크게 나타났다. 시목조간대에서는 여름철에 세립질퇴적물의 집적으로 인해 표층퇴적물의 입도가 세립해지는 반면 겨울철에는 침식되어 조립한 입도분포를 나타내는 경향을 보였다. 연평균집적률은 3.7 mm/yr로 정상적 퇴적 경향을 보였다. 그러나 안악조간대에서는 겨울철에 세립질퇴적물이 집적되고 여름철에 침식되는 비정상적인 조간대 퇴적작용을 보였으며, -49.6 mm/yr의 연평균집적률로 침식이 진행되는 것으로 나타났다. 이곳의 침식우세작용은 중부조간대에 건설된 방조제에 의해 야기되는 조류의 방향과 세기 변화 때문으로 판단된다. 따라서 현재로서는 국부적인 결과만을 가지고 함평만 내의 모든 조간대에서 침식이 진행되고 있는 것으로 판단하기는 어려우며 전체적인 퇴적물 수송량에 대한 연구가 추가되어야 할 것으로 생각된다.

유기물 Pentacene 박막과 금속 계면에서의 Space Charge 연구 (A Study on Space Charge of Organic Pentacene/metal Interface)

  • Surface potential properties at the interface of pentacene thin films on gold (Au) and aluminum (Al) surfaces were investigated by using a near-field scanning microwave microprobe (NSMM). The surface potential formed across the pentacene film was observed by measuring the microwave reflection coefficient $S_{11}$ and compared with the result of a Kelvin-probe method. The obtained reflection coefficient ${\Delta}S_{11}$ of the pentacene thin films on Al was decreased as the pentacene film thickness increased due to the increased accumulation of negative space charges, while for Au ${\Delta}S_{11}$ was essentially constant.

혐기성 조건에서 담체에 부착된 미생물의 관찰 (Microscope Examination of Attached Biofilm under Anaerobic Conditions)

  • Microstructural examinations were performed on the anaerobic biofilm from reactor filled with PE support media. Optical microscope, SEM and fluorescent microscope were used for qualitative and morphological studies on the attached microorganism under anaerobic condition. Microorganisms were attached in crevices where protection from shear forces of surfaces where easy to contact with support media surface. A hypothesis for biofilm accumulation occurs on a surface such as polymer support media is presented schematically : 1st step ; cell-support media attachment, 2nd step ; cell-support media attachment and cell-cell attachment, 3rd step ; attached biofilm from neighboring crevices joins together and growing, 4th step ; mature and irregualar biofilm was formed. In SEM photographs, shape and structures of biofilm were observed, but microorganism species and methanogens were not identified. A large number of methanogenic bacteria were identified on the surface of PE substratum by fluorescence under 480nm of radiation and it was estimated that methanogenic bacteria was related to initial attachment of bacteria under anaerobic condition.

원통 플런지 연삭시 연삭력에 관한 실험적연구 (Monitoring of Grinding Force in Plunge Grinding Process)

  • Cylindrical plunge grinding is widely used for final machining process of precision parts such as automobile, aircraft, measurement units. But in order to make parts which have high precision accuracy and high surface integrity, it is necessary to consider grinding characteristics due to accumulation phenomena of grinding wheel in plunge grinding process. In this study, in order to examine closely plunge grinding process, grinding power, grinding force, real depth of cut are monitored in transient state, steady state and spark out state. As the result, it is shown that grinding power and force are affected by dressing condition, depth of cut and speed ratio and that there exist threshold grinding force and it also affected by dressing condition.   • In this paper, we evaluated the effect of accumulated charges on hydrophobicity of room temperature vulcanized(RTV) silicone rubber, which could improve the contamination performance of porcelain insulators, with uv radiation time. Outdoor insulating material could be charged by the corona discharge on field intensified area of insulator and discharge between the water drops. In addition, we performed the accelerated uv radiation on samples and investigated the change of charging decay with time. In this results, it is found that silica-like structure on the surface of RTV silicone rubber was formed by uv treatments and this layer have the characteristic of retaining the charges on surface for a long time. These charges have effects on its hydrophobicity and so adversely effects on contamination performance. Based on our results, we discussed the other degradation mechanism with well known ones.

Low-voltage cathodoluminescent Characteristics of ZnGa$_2$O$_4$ : Mn phosphors

  • Green-emitting $ZnGa_2O_4$ : Mn phosphors were synthesized by a thermal method and their low-voltage cathodoluminescent characteristics were examined for the field emitter display (FED) application. Low efficiency of $ZnGa_2O_4$ : Mn phosphors could be ascribed to the low penetration depth of into phosphors, which might results in charge accumulation on the phosphors screen. For increasing cathodoluminescent of $ZnGa_2O_4$ : Mn under low voltage excitation, wide band-gap oxide materials were added to the $ZnGa_2O_4$: Mn powder. It is found that the luminance can be increased by 20%. Measurement of leakage current on the phosphor screen shows that the enhancement of low-voltage cathodoluminescent by additive materials is mainly due to the consumption of surface charges on the phosphor.

  • We studied threshold voltages and I-V characteristics. considering short channel effect of the fully depleted thin film n-channel SOI MOSFET. We presented a charge sharing model when the back surface of short channel shows accumulation depletion and inversion state respectively. A degree of charge sharing can be compared according to each of back-surface conditions. Mobility is not assumed as constant and besides bulk mobility both the mobility defined by acoustic phonon scattering and the mobility by surface roughness scattering are taken into consideration. I-V characteristics is then implemented by the mobility including vertical and parallel electric field. kThe validity of the model is proved with the 2-dimensional device simulation (MEDICI) and experimental results. The threshold voltage and charge sharing region controlled by source or drain reduced with increasing back gate voltage. The mobility is dependent upon scattering effect and electric field. so it has a strong influence on I-V characteristics.

  • How accurately reproducible energy is delivered to the wafer in the process of making thin films using PE-CVD (Plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition) during the semiconductor process. This is the most important technique, and most of the reaction on the wafer surface is made by thermal energy. In this study, we studied the method of monitoring the change of thermal energy transferred to the wafer surface by monitoring the temperature change according to the change of the thin film formed on the showerhead facing the wafer. Through this research, we could confirm the monitoring of wafer thin-film which is changed due to abnormal operation and accumulation of equipment, and we can expect improvement of semiconductor quality and yield through process reproducibility and equipment status by real-time monitoring of problem of deposition process equipment performance.
