  • In mobile environment supporting mobility technologies, user requirements have been increased with respect to utilization of location information. In particular, moving object DBMS has consistently posed in order to efficiently maintain traffic information related to location of vehicle which tents to tremendously change over time. Despite the fact that these sorts of researches must be taken into consideration, empirical studies on moving object in terms of map database for lbs service, spatial attribute of which is continuously changed over time, have rarely performed. Therefore, aim of this paper is to suggest efficient spatial index scheme, which is capable of supporting query processing algorithm and location of moving object over time, by developing new empirical model. As a result, we can come to the conclusion that moving object model based on multi-fixed grid index makes it possible to cut down on the number of entity for retrieving. What's more, this model enables hierarchical data to be accessed through efficient spatial filtering on large-scale lbs data and constraints in accordance with level in order to display map.

  • A molecular docking is thc process of reducing an unmanageable number of compounds to a limited number of compounds for the target of interest by means of computational simulation. And it is one of a large scale scientific application that requires large computing power and data storage capability. Previous applications or software for molecular docking were developed to be run on a supercomputer, a workstation, or a cluster computer. However the virtual screening using a supercomputer has a problem that a supercomputer is very expensive and the virtual screening using a workstation or a cluster-computer requires a long execution time. Thus we propose Grid service based molecular docking application. We designed a resource broker and a data broker for supporting efficient molecular docking service and developed various services for molecular docking.

  • Human has been living in the relation with diverse artifacts ranging from simple tools to complex systems. The relation is an interaction between user and product with input and output process to achieve a certain goals. Natural inter-connection is very important to this interaction. The visualized operation and the dear feedback of product play a critical role in making input and output distinct at both sides. So product innovation means removing mental and physical loads between product and user based on understanding and analyzing interaction. This study proposes the interaction grid as a framework to visualize the interaction. The interaction grid is the format to describe the input and output process between user and product. Modeling and analysis of interaction is based on the interaction grid. Finally, this study discusses the idea exploration method for product innovation with interaction grid, and develops prototype of interaction analysis system for supporting idea exploration.

  • e-Science Service Integration Workbench is the core tool that enables IT-based computation and engineering researchers to collaborate their research activities via data sharing, by semi-automatically supporting the activities. Workbench provides the researchers with a scientific workflow by establishing the environment that is capable of finding, registering, composing, and executing services-legacy codes wrapped with grid services or web services-they need to use. In other words, designing their scientific workflow through the workbench, they can receive or share its final result with their collegues by submitting jobs they describe to computational resources such as supercomputers or grids or requesting an experiment. In this paper, we propose an implementation architecture of e-Science Service Integration Workbench to support grid services of Grid Middleware.

  • Fuel cladding tubes in nuclear fuel assembly are held up by supporting grids because the tubes are long and slender. Fluid flows of high-pressure and high-temperature in the tubes cause oscillating motions between tubes and supports. This is called as FIV (flow induced vibration), which causes fretting wear in contact parts of tube and support. The fretting wear of tube and support can threaten the safety of nuclear power plant. Therefore, a research about the fretting wear characteristics of tube-support is required. The fretting wear tests were performed with supporting grids and cladding tubes, especially after corrosion treatment on tubes, in water. The tests were done using various applied loads with fixed amplitude. From the results of fretting tests, the wear amounts of tube materials can be predictable by obtaining the wear coefficient using the work rate model. Due to stick phenomena the wear depth was changed as increasing load and temperature. The maximum wear depth was decreased as increasing the water temperatures. At high temperatures there are the regions of some severe adhesion due to stick phenomena.

  • To understand the genesis of tropical cyclones (TC), we computed TC genesis probability (GPr) by partitioning a highly localized genesis frequency (GFq) into nearby grid boxes in proportion to the spatial coherence of genesis potential index (GPI). From the analysis of TCs simulated by the Seoul National University Atmosphere Model Version 0 and the observed TCs, it was shown that GPr reasonably converges to GFq when averaged over a long-term period in a decent grid size, supporting its validity as a proxy representing a true TC GPr. The composite anomalies of the gridded GPr in association with the Asia summer monsoon, El Nino-Southern Oscillation (ENSO), and the Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) are much less noisy than those of GFq, and consequently are better interpretable. In summary, GPr converges to GFq, varies more smoothly than GFq, represents the spatiotemporal variations of GFq better than GPI, and depicts GFq with greater spatial details than other spatially smoothed GFqs.

  • In a power grid that has a high penetration of wind power, the highly-fluctuating output power of wind turbine generators (WTGs) adversely impacts the power quality in terms of the system frequency. This paper proposes a power smoothing scheme of a variable-speed WTG that can smooth its fluctuating output power caused by varying wind speeds, thereby improving system frequency regulation. To achieve this, an additional loop relying on the frequency deviation that operates in association with the maximum power point tracking control loop, is proposed; its control gain is modified with the rotor speed. For a low rotor speed, to ensure the stable operation of a WTG, the gain is set to be proportional to the square of the rotor speed. For a high rotor speed, to improve the power smoothing capability, the control gain is set to be proportional to the cube of the rotor speed. The performance of the proposed scheme is investigated under varying wind speeds for the IEEE 14-bus system using an EMTP-RV simulator. The simulation results indicate that the proposed scheme can mitigate the output power fluctuation of WTGs caused by varying wind speeds by adjusting the control gain depending on the rotor speed, thereby supporting system frequency regulation.

  • e-AIRS, an abbreviation of 'e-Science Aerospace Integrated Research System,' is a virtual organization supporting CFD(computational fluid dynamics) simulations, remote experimental service, and collaborative and integrative study between computation and experiment. e-AIRS works on the e-Science environment and research process is accomplished through the web portal. By the system development since 2005, a stable education system with the full support on fluid dynamics is successfully established and utilized to various fluid dynamic lectures in universities. By using e-AIRS system during a lecture, students can conduct the full CFD simulation process on the web and inspect the wind tunnel experiment via Access Grid. This kind of interactive lecture makes students to have a deeper understanding on the physics of fluid, as well as the characteristics of numerical techniques. The current paper will describe system components of e-AIRS and its utilization on education.

  • This paper proposed a workflow enactment model to provide process management functions for the next generation Internet service environment such as Web Service and Grid Computing. The existing enterprise workflow enactment models could not meet the scalability and reliability requirements for aforementioned environments. To satisfy these requirements, this study addressed on applying P2P model to the workflow enactment model. Mathematical description and proof were employed to show the recovery based on set theory and we also showed performance enhancement through simulations, which demonstrated a comprehensive result giving more than 100 times fast response time than the existing centralized model on the same resources.
