  • The fire of Sungnyemun, National Treasure of No.1, gave to the Korean people and fire investigators big pains. The aim of this study are the identification of combustion traces and fire patterns of wooden building fire, burned with an accelerator, after spraying flammable materials on the wooden floor through the field study observation. Also, in the case of the similar fire, these results will be as good references to fire investigators for accurate investigations.

  • The fire ravage of Sungnyemun in 10th Feb 2008 gave an opportunity to overview an existing management system regarding cultural assets, which have been out of disaster and safety management. According to this consideration, we could provide enhanced plans of safety management policy with regard to cultural properties. The incident has taught us the important experiences in terms of the safety management in normal and the cultural assets; moreover, we should do our best through dispassionate reflection and consistent efforts to inherit priceless cultural assets to the next generation.

Petrological Classification and Provenance Interpretation of the Sungnyemun Stone Block Foundation, Korea PDF icon (숭례문 육축 구성석재의 암석학적 분류와 원산지 해석)

  • This study focused on distribution ratio of stone properties based on material characteristic analysis, provenance presumption and transportation route interpretation of the Sungnyemun stone block foundation. The stone block foundation is composed of pinkish granite (56.0%), reddish granite (4.5%) and leucocratic granite (26.2%) of original stones and pinkish granite of new stones(13.3%). The rock-forming minerals for granites are consisted mainly of quartz, alkali-feldspar, plagioclase and biotite, and are similar geochemical evolution trend of major, rare earth, compatible and incompatible elements. Therefore, it is clear that the rocks are genetically same origin. As a result of magnetic susceptibility measurement, the pinkish and reddish granite of original stones and pinkish granite of new stones showed normal distribution around about 4.00(${\times}10^{-3}SI\;unit$). But the leucocratic granite of original stones were confirmed ilmenite series under about 1.00(${\times}10^{-3}SI\;unit$). As a result of provenance interpretation and transportation route analysis based on the petrological results, the provenance of pinkish granite and reddish granite of original stones are presumed the north slope in Namsan mountain and Naksan mountain. Also, the leucocratic granite of original stones and the pinkish granite of new stones are strongly possible furnished from the south and north slope in Namsan mountain and Naksan mountain, respectively.

  • 본 연구에서는 숭례문 화재를 재현하기 위한 실물 모형을 제작하여 화재의 전이과정 및 붕괴에 이르는 과정을 추론하여 보고자 하였다. 실험결과 시너의 폭발력에 의한 화염이 천정의 적심부분에 직접적인 화재 원인임을 예측 할 수 있었으며, 이에 따른 적심부의 계속적인 훈소과정을 거쳐 숭례문의 천정내부에 화재가 성장하였을 것으로 판단되었다.

  • 본 연구는 숭례문의 진동측정을 통한 고유진동수와 감쇠, 진동모드 등의 파악을 목적으로 한다. 목조 건축물의 진동측정방법은 건축물에 손상을 주지 않으며 공학적인 데이터의 획득으로 숭례문의 시간, 환경에 따른 구조특성의 변화를 수치적으로 파악할 수 있게 해준다. 숭례문에 대하여 상시미동측정과 인력가진측정을 실시하였다. 그 결과, 숭례문의 진동특성은 장변방향으로 2.12Hz, 단변방향으로 1.56Hz로 비슷한 규모와 형식이라고 할 수 있는 흥인지문, 수원 팔달문보다 높은 고유진동수값을 얻었고 감쇠값은 장변방향으로 1.7%, 단변방향으로 1.8%의 값을 가진다. 2008년 화재로 전소된 숭례문의 진동특성이지만 앞으로 비슷한 구조 건축물에 대한 측정 데이터의 축적을 통하여 목조 건축물의 진동특성에 대한 주기식 및 성능파악에 대한 기준 및 평가자료의 근거로 쓸 수가 있다.
