We have studied properties of step-edge Junction prepared with crystal orientation of sapphire substrate. The Step on sapphire substrates fabricated by conventional photolithography method and Ar ion milling method. $CeO_2$ buffer layer and in-situ YBCO thin film were deposited on the stepped sapphire substrates by a pulsed laser deposition method with the predetermined optimized condition. The step angle was centre fled low angle of about $25^{\circ}$. The YBCO film thickness was varied to obtain various thickness ratios of the film to the step height in a range from 0.7 to 1.2. I-V curves of junction were showed RSJ-behavior, double junction structure, and hysteresis due to the crystal orientation of substrate.
Laser cladding is a technique for modification on surface in materials. This study describes a laser cladding equipment design and the results of laser cladding nickel on rolled steel for general structure. The laser clsdding equipment designed to consider continuous supply, a fixed quantity. The material used MC plastic. Laser cladding condition is found out by processing parameters. The experiment advanced to suppy substrate with powder. The substrate is rolled steel for general structure(KS D 3503) and powder is using the nickel powder for the corrosion resitance, wear resistance and surface hardness of materials. When the substrate travel on X-Y table, laser beam irradiates to prevent from oxidize with shielding gas on it. The obtained specimens measure the victors hardness test. For the research laser cladding results make a comparative study the microstructure.
Friction surfacing of STS304 consumable rod on S45C substrate was investigated by microstructural observation and mechanical tests. STS304 layer formed a strongly-bonded thick layer under a wide range of surfacing conditions. The hardness distribution showed the peak value in the boundry layer, while the highest coating efficiency obtained in the condition of 1000rpm-2.5mm/sec-2.5mm/sec. As the consumable rotation rate and the traveling rate increased, the coating efficiency tended to decrease. On the other hand, as the feeding rate increased, the coating efficiency appeared to be increased.
Haemophilus K-12 producing novel sulfotransferase was isolated from mouce intestinal flora. The enzyme catalyzed the transfer of sulfate group from p-nitrophenylsulfate to phenolic compounds. The optimum medium condition for the sulfotransferase production was 0.2% sucrose, 1% yeast extract, $Na_{2}HPO_4$ and 0.5% NaCl. The enzyme production was induced by donor substrate, but was not by accepters. When p-nitrophenylsulfate was used as a donor substrate, 1-naphthol was best substrate, followed by phenol, p-acetaminophenol and tyramine.

If microorganisms are injected into porous medium such as soils along with appropriate substrate and nutrients, soil pore size and shape are changed from the initial condition as a result of biofilm formation, which make hydraulic conductivity reduced. In this research, hydraulic conductivity reduction was measured after specific bacterium or fungus was inoculated into soil pore. Hydraulic conductivity was decreased to 10 % ∼ 1 % and maintained constant while substrate was provided. Under the adverse conditions such as no substrate, chemical solution permeation, and freeze-thaw cycles, hydraulic conductivity was increased 30∼50%. Hydraulic conductivity decrease of fungus-soil mixture was faster than that of bacterium-soil mixture. Fungus-soil mixture, however, was more sensitive to the adverse conditions.
Hot filament-assisted CVD was carried out to deposit diamond films on Si(100) substrate at 90$0^{\circ}C$ using a 1% CH4-H2 mixture gas. Deposition was made at various conditions of mass flow rate of the feed gas (30~1000 sccm), pressure (2.5~300 Torr), and filament-substrate distance (4~15 mm), and the deposited films were characterized by SEM, XRD, and Raman spectroscopy. As the flow rate increases, the growth rate also increased but the crystallinity of the film was degraded. A longer filament-substrate distance simply caused both the growth rate and the crystallinity to become poorer. On the other hand, the pressure variation resulted in a maximum growth rate of 2.6 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$/hr at 10 Torr and the best film quality around 50 Torr, exhibiting an optimum condition. The observed trends were interpreted in terms of the flow velocity-dependent pyrolysis reaction efficiency and mass transport through the boundary layer.
In proto-type microactuators driven by magnetostrictive Tb-Fe thin films, the deflection was observed to be much smaller than that expected from large-sized "standard" Tb-Fe thin films. A striking difference was observed when the results from a thin substrate of 28 $\mu\textrm{m}$ for microactuator applications were compared with those from a standard substrate. At a standard substrate thickness (several hundred $\mu\textrm{m}$), an amorphous phase was formed and the coercivity was low being 80 Oe. (omitted)
The objective of this study was to investigate the sintering behavior, crystallization characteristic of glass-ceramic and optimal sintering condition on the glass/ceramic composite for fabricating substrate of LTCC. Glass/ceramic composite was made from alumina powder and glass frit, which was composed of SiO2-TiO2-RO-PbO/(R: Ba, Sr, Ca), and was sintered for 0, 30, 60minutes in the temperature range from 700$^{\circ}C$ to 1000$^{\circ}C$. Properties of frit and glass/ceramic compsoite were analyzed by DTA, XRD, SEM and Network Analyzer and so on. Main sintering mechanism was densification occurred above 730$^{\circ}C$ by viscous flow and crystallization starting about 780$^{\circ}C$ affected sintering also. So viscous flow was affected by sintering temperature, duration time, and creation of crystallization phase etc. From this study, it was possible to fabricate glass/ceramic composite by changing sintering temperature and duration time.
The bond strength between the low-firing-substrate and Cu conductor depended on the softening point and the amount of frit added to the metal paste. The addition of 3 wt% frit (softening point: 68$0^{\circ}C$) to the metal paste resulted in the improvement of bond strength, which was approximately 3 times higher (3kg/$\textrm{mm}^2$) than that of non frit condition. It was also found that fracture surface shifted to the ceramic substrate in the interface region. These phenomena were attributed to the frit migration into the metal-ceramic interface. It was thought that the migration of glass frit occurred extensively when the softening point of glass firt was 68$0^{\circ}C$. The sheet resistance of Cu conductor remained constant by the addition of 4 wt% frit regardless of softening point of frit. For all samples with more than 4 wt% frit, the sheet resistance increased abruptly.
Carbon nanotube(CNT) was successfully grown on Ni-W alloyed substrate by applying PECVD technique(Plasma Enhanced Chemical Vapor Deposition). As a catalyst, Ni-W alloyed substrate was prepared by mechanical alloying method. In order to find the optimum growth condition, initially two different types of gas mixtures such ac $C_2$H$_2$-H$_2$and $C_2$H$_2$-MH$_3$were systematically investigated by adjusting results on the mixing ratio in temperature range of 500 to 80$0^{\circ}C$. In this work, we will report the preliminary results on the CNT processed by PECVD, which were characterized by XRD, SEM and TEM. Finally we will evalute the effect on CNT growth by changing many processing parameters, such as typical gas, mixing ratio between 2 mixture, plasma power and etc.
