  • The present paper outlines the numerical investigation of the incident wave interactions with fully submerged and floating dual double hull pontoon/vertical porous membrane breakwaters. Two dimensional five fluid-domains hydro-elastic formulation was carried out in the context of linear wave body interaction theory to study the wave interaction with the double hull of pontoon-membranes. The submerged circular pontoon is consisted of double hulls, which is filled with water in the void space between the outer structure and inner solid buoyant structure. Hydrodynamic characteristics of the proposed system with dual floating double-hull-pontoons filled with water have been studied numerically for the various incident waves. This study is a beginning stage research for the dual double hull porous pontoons/vertical porous membranes breakwaters which is ideally designed in order to suppress significantly the transmitted and reflected waves simultaneously.

  • In this paper, an efficient inverse design method for nose shape of submerged body based on the MGM(Modified Garabedian-McFadden) design method has been developed. The MGM design method is a residual-correction technique, in which the residuals are differences between the desired and the computed pressure distributions. 3-D incompressible Wavier-Stokes equation was adopted for obtaining the surface pressure distribution and combined with the MGM design method to perform the inverse design of nose shape of submerged body. The design method was verified by applying to several airfoil shapes. Improved design shapes could be obtained when the method was applied to nose shapes of submerged body.

  • In this study, transmission and reflection of multi-directional random waves propagating over multi-arrayed submerged breakwaters are investigated using eigenfunction expansion method. The numerical analysis on the wave energy reflection of submerged breakwaters with various crown widths is carried out. Strong wave reflection is occurred at the Bragg reflection condition of the peak frequency. When relative heights and crown widths of breakwaters are equal to 0.6 and 0.4h, respectively, more than 25% of wave energy is reflected to off shore.

  • Wave breaking and breaking wave-induced hydrodynamics are very important subjects in the field of coastal and ocean hydrodynamics and engineering. In the coastal zone, a submerged breakwater has been increasingly popular, since it is one of nature-matching structures with multi- functions such as (1) wave energy dissipation by wave breaking and friction, (2) oxygen supply to sea by wave breaking and breaking wave, (3) water purification by entrained air bubbles, (4) keeping. good seascape. and (5) good habitat for sea livings. Recently, the breaking wave-induced high frequency pressure over a submerged breakwater is said to have a function of gathering sea livings around the structure, which has encouraged the construction of the submerged breakwater in coastal zone. • In this paper, submerged body dynamics model in vertical plane which can include the effect of free surface and wave is suggested to simulate the motions of submerged body moving beneath free surface precisely. A controller is designed, which can maintain a constant depth below the mean sea level and minimize the pitch angle. Numerical simulations show that the designed controller is effective on depth keeping and minimizing pitch angle in regular waves and irregular waves.

  • In this paper, effects of inlet shape on the performance of a submerged cargo pump were numerically studied using a commercial CFD code CFX. The inlet shape, especially the gap between pump and suction well, is an important parameter in a point of view of performances of submerged cargo pump due to its effects on the residual and also hydraulic performance of the pump, respectively. To know the optimized gap, the overall performance degradations were calculated with the gap. In addition to that, the flow field through the gap was investigated to explain the effect of velocity non-uniformity on the performance of the pump impeller.

  • An aerated submerged biofilm reactor is the reactor in which influent organic substrates are aerobically oxidized by suspended biomass and attached biomass of biofilm grown on the surface of submerged media. The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of aeration intensity on microbial characteristics and treatment efficiency in submerged biofilm process. In the organic loading rate (4.3kg BOD/$m^{3} \cdot day$), biofilm thickness (420-780$\mu$m) and attached biomass(1.79-2.94mg/cm$^{2}$) increased as the aeration intensity increased (2-8m$^{3}$ air/$m^{2} \cdot hr$), but biofilm density decreased (42.25-37.69mg/cm$^{3}$). The minimum aeration intensity for prevention of deposited biomass was 2m$^{3}$ air/$m^{2} \cdot hr$. The minimum dissolved oxygen of 2.5mg/l had to be maintained for improved efficiency.

  • This paper presents study on the electric potential distribution when have a short in street lamp. In order to measure electric potential testing ground is built in. A experiment is conducted to simulate dry and submerged situation of street lamp. The street lamp is leaked by artificial means. And electric potential is measured in grounded street lamp and street lamp alone. The results show that touch voltage of grounded street lamp is possible more high than street lamp alone. And the electric shock hazard is high because high electric potential is distributed near submerged street lamp. Also if street lamp is submerged ground is not useful to decrease electric shock hazard.

  • The submerged injection smelting process was performed to recover Zn and Pb from steel dust throuth vaporization and to investigate the effect of temperature, slag composition, injection time, gas flow rate, etc. on the recoveries of valuable metals. The results show that vaporation rates of zinc and lead increased at higher temperture and higher moral ratio of ferrous to ferric oxides. In the initial stage of submerged injection of nitrogen gas, the molten slags of the dust have high value of molar ratio of $Fe^{2+}$/$Fe^{3+}$ and hence zinc and lead can be effectively recovered.

  • Real-time flood submerged area map provides important scientific basis for the decision-making of flood control and relieving disaster. Taking the Wuhan area as an example, this article gives out a image interpretation method under influence of flood, and describes real-time or quasi-real-time flood submerged area map by using the integration of ERS-2 SAR image and LANDSAT TM image in support of remote sensing images process software ERDAS.
