This paper suggest the image compression that is needed to process PACS in medical information system. The image decoding method is used Linear-predictor and Lloyd-Max quantizer(quantization) in the Wavelet transform domain. Wavelet Transform Method is processed the multi-resolution by dividing image into 10 sub-bands of 3 levels. Low frequency domain that is sensitive to human visual characteristic is encoded by DPCM which is lossless encoding methods, and Lloyed-Max quantizer, the optimal quantizer for reducing ringing and aliasing in the image of inter sub-band, is used in the remaining high frequency domain of sub-band. The examination verifies that decompressed images are superior by the result that PSNR is 28.53dB on the input image, 512$\times$152 abdominal CT image and Chest image.

The key issue of block-based multi-focus image fusion is to determine the size of the sub-block because different sizes of the sub-block will lead to different fusion effects. To solve this problem, this paper presents a novel genetic algorithm (GA) based multi-focus image fusion method, in which the block size can be automatically found. In our method, the Sum-modified-Laplacian (SML) is selected as an evaluation criterion to measure the clarity of the image sub-block, and the edge information retention is employed to calculate the fitness of each individual. Then, through the selection, crossover and mutation procedures of the GA, we can obtain the optimal solution for the sub-block, which is finally used to fuse the images. Experimental results show that the proposed method outperforms the traditional methods, including the average, gradient pyramid, discrete wavelet transform (DWT), shift invariant DWT (SIDWT) and two existing GA-based methods in terms of both the visual subjective evaluation and the objective evaluation.
In order to retrieve images with different emotions in regions of the images, this paper proposes the image retrieval system using emotion sketch. The proposed retrieval system divides an image into $17{\times}17$ sub-regions and extracts emotion features in each sub-region. In order to extract the emotion features, this paper uses emotion colors on 160 emotion words from H. Nagumo's color scheme imaging chart. We calculate a histogram of each sub-region and consider one emotion word having the maximal value as a representative emotion word of the sub-region. The system demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed emotion sketch and our experimental results show that the system successfully retrieves on the Corel image database.

PM10 concentration is a spatiotemporal phenomenta and capturing data for such continuous phenomena is a difficult task. This study designed a model that enhances spatiotemporal resolution of PM10 concentration levels using satellite imagery, atmospheric and meteorological sensor data, and multiple deep learning models. The designed deep learning model was trained using input data whose factors may affect concentration of PM10 such as meteorological conditions and land-use. Using this model, PM10 images having 15 minute temporal resolution and 30m×30m spatial resolution were produced with only atmospheric and meteorological data.
Background: The conventional cerium-doped Gd2Al2Ga3O12 (GAGG(Ce)) scintillator-based gamma-ray imager has a bulky detector, which can lead to incorrect positioning of the gammaray source if the shielding against background radiation is not appropriately designed. In addition, portability is important in complex environments such as inside nuclear power plants, yet existing gamma-ray imager based on a tungsten mask tends to be weighty and therefore difficult to handle. Motivated by the need to develop a system that is not sensitive to background radiation and is portable, we changed the material of the scintillator and the coded aperture. Materials and Methods: The existing GAGG(Ce) was replaced with Bi4Ge3O12 (BGO), a scintillator with high gamma-ray detection efficiency but low energy resolution, and replaced the tungsten (W) used in the existing coded aperture with lead (Pb). Each BGO scintillator is pixelated with 144 elements (12 × 12), and each pixel has an area of 4 mm × 4 mm and the scintillator thickness ranges from 5 to 20 mm (5, 10, and 20 mm). A coded aperture consisting of Pb with a thickness of 20 mm was applied to the BGO scintillators of all thicknesses. Results and Discussion: Spectroscopic characterization, imaging performance, and image quality evaluation revealed the 10 mm-thick BGO scintillators enabled the portable gamma-ray imager to deliver optimal performance. Although its performance is slightly inferior to that of existing GAGG(Ce)-based gamma-ray imager, the results confirmed that the manufacturing cost and the system's overall weight can be reduced. Conclusion: Despite the spectral characteristics, imaging system performance, and image quality is slightly lower than that of GAGG(Ce), the results show that BGO scintillators are preferable for gamma-ray imaging systems in terms of cost and ease of deployment, and the proposed design is well worth applying to systems intended for use in areas that do not require high precision.

Closed cracks are difficult to detect using conventional ultrasonic testing because most incident ultrasound passes completely through these cracks. Nonlinear ultrasound inspection using sub-harmonic frequencies a promising method for detecting closed cracks. To implement this method, a sub-harmonic phased array (PA) is proposed to visualize the length of closed cracks in solids. A sub-harmonic PA generally consists of a single transmitter and an array receiver, which detects sub-harmonic waves generated from closed cracks. The PA images are obtained using the total focusing method (TFM), which (with a transmitter and receiving array) employs a full matrix in the observation region to achieve fine image resolution. In particular, the receiving signals are measured using a laser Doppler vibrometer (LDV) to collect PA images for both fundamental and sub-harmonic frequencies. Oblique incidence, which is used to boost sub-harmonic generation, inevitably produces various surface waves that contaminate the signals measured in the receiving transducer. Surface wave interference often degrades PA images severely, and it becomes difficult to read the closed crack's position from the images. Various methods to prevent or eliminate this interference are possible. In particular, enhancing images with signal processing could be a highly cost-effective method. Because periodic patterns distributed in a PA image are the most frequent interference induced by surface waves, spatial frequency filtering is applicable for removing these waves. Experiments clearly demonstrate that the spatial frequency filter improves PA images.

In this study, the thermal oxidation of raw natural rubber (NR) was investigated under controlled conditions by optical image and fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) analysis. The thermal oxidation was performed on a transparent thin film of raw NR coated on a KBr window in a dark chamber at 80℃ under low humidity conditions to completely exclude moisture and restrict light oxidation. Images of the thin film of raw NR were obtained before and after thermal oxidation. FT-IR absorption spectra were measured in the transmission mode at different thermal exposure times. The thermal oxidation of NR was examined by the changes in the absorption peaks at 3449, 1736, 1447, 1377, 1242, 1072, and 833 cm-1, which corresponded to a hydroxyl group (-OH), a carbonyl group (-C=O) from an aldehyde and a ketone, a methylene group (-CH2-), a methyl group (-CH3), a carbon-oxygen single bond (-C-O) from an epoxide, a carbon-oxygen bond (-C-O) from an ether, an alcohol, a peroxide, or a cyclic peroxide, and a cis-methine group (cis-CCH3=CH-), respectively. In the initial stage of thermal oxidation, two different types of free radicals were produced quickly and randomly by the homolytic cleavage of a double bond and allylic hydrogen abstraction. Aldehydes and ketones were formed from chain scissions of the double bonds and alcohols were produced from allylic hydrogen abstraction at the methylene or methyl groups. Two reactions seemed to proceed competitively with each other. At a later stage, oxidative crosslinks seemed to dominate through the combination of free radicals such as an allyl radical (CH=CHCH2·), alkoxy radical (RO·), and peroxy radical (ROO·) and the reaction of a hydroperoxide (-ROOH) with a double bond. The image obtained after thermal oxidation showed hardening without cracks. Based on these observations, a plausible two-step mechanism was suggested for chain hardening caused by the thermal oxidation.
CAPTCHA is a security tool that prevents the automatic sign-up by a spam or a robot. This CAPTCHA usually depends on the smart readability of humans. However, the common and plain CAPTCHA with text-based system is not difficult to be solved by intelligent web-bot and machine learning tools. In this paper, we propose a new sub-image based CAPTCHA system totally different from the text based system. Our system offers a set of cropped sub-image from a whole digital picture and asks user to identify the correct orientation. Though there are some nice machine learning tools for this job, but they are useless for a cropped sub-images, which was clearly revealed by our experiment. Experiment showed that our sub-image based CAPTCHA is easy to human solver, but very hard to all kinds of machine learning or AI tools. Also our CAPTCHA is easy to be generated automatical without any human intervention.
The remote sensing image server provides advanced image serving capabilities for geospatial image. Wide seamless image mosaics of Landsat 5 over GMS countries, which exceed a 15 GB or more in size per image, can integrate with other GIS map servers. The approach of two improvement algorithms leads to speed up the response time while preserving the data quality. This system does not only provide images on the web, but also provide GIS layers to WMS client map servers. The advantage of this approach is its efficiency lower cost in terms of cost, time and updating to obtain and utilize remote sensing image.
This paper proposes the modified image contrast enhancement technique for small-sized display of mobile handset. Sample images are user interface images, in which scaled up wVGA($800{\times}480$) from qVGA($320{\times}240$) that we can see easily in mobile handset. The display size of mobile handset is relatively small, so the goal of this paper is to simplify image contrast enhancement algorithm based on conventional HE (Histogram Equalization) algorithm and improve computational effectiveness to minimize power consumption in real hardware IC. In this paper, we adopt HE technique, which is classical and widely used for image contrast enhancement. At first, the input frame image is partitioned to temporal sub-frames and then analyzes gray level histogram of each sub-frame. In case that the analyzed histogram of some sub-frames deviates so much from reference level (it means that the sub-frame image components consist of too bright ones or dark ones), apply DHE(Dynamic Histogram Equalization) algorithm. In the other case, apply classical Histogram Linearization (or Global HE) algorithm. Also we compare the HE technique with gamma LUT (Look-Up Table) method, which is known as the simplest technique to enhance image contrast.
