Bioactivity-guided fractionation of EtOH extract of the dried fruits of Amomum tsao-ko led to isolation of three compounds (1-3). Their structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods (MS, 1D and 2D-NMR) and comparison with literature values, as naringenin-5-O-methyl ether (1), helichrysetin (2), and cardamomin (3). Compound 2 was obtained from the genus Amomum for the first time. Among them, compounds 2 and 3 inhibited on the release of β-hexosaminidase from RBL-2H3 cells, with 99.1 and 21.3% at the concentration of 50 μM, respectively.

Objectives : GunRyeong-Tang(GRT) is a traditional herbal prescription that combines Oryeongsan and Sagunja-tang. This study employed network analysis methods on the components of GRT and target genes related to diabetes complications to predict the improvement effects of GRT on diabetes complications. Methods : The collection of active compounds of GRT and related target genes involved the utilization of public databases and the PubChem database. We selected diabetes complication-related genes using GeneCards and confirmed their correlation through comparative analysis with the target genes of GRT. We constructed a network using Cytoscape 3.9.1 and conducted topological analysis. To predict the mechanism, we performed functional enrichment analysis based on Gene Ontology (GO) biological processes and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) pathways. Results : Through network analysis, 234 active compounds and 1361 related genes were collected from GRT. A total of 9,136 genes related to diabetes complications were collected, and 1,039 target genes overlapping with the components of GRT were identified. The core genes of this network were TP53, INS, AKT1, ALB, and EGFR. In addition, GRT significantly reduced the H9c2 cell size and the expression of myocardial hypertrophy biomarkers (ANP, BNP), which were increased by high glucose (HG). Conclusions : Through this study, we were able to predict the activity and mechanism of action of GRT on diabetes and diabetic complications, and confirmed the potential of GRT as a treatment for diabetes complications through the effect of GRT on improving myocardial hypertrophy for diabetic cardiomyopathy.
To assess environmental contamination with carcinogens, carbonaceous compounds, water-soluble ionic species and trace gaseous species were identified and quantified every three hours for three days st three different atmospheric layer at the heart of chiang-Mai, bangkok and hat-Yai from December 2006 to February 2007. A DRI model 2001 Themal/Optical Carbon Analyzer with the IMPROVE thermal/optical reflectance (TOR) protocol was used to quantify the organic carbon(OC) and elemental carbon content in $PM_{10}$. Diurnal and vertical variability was also carefully investigated. In general, OC and EC contenttration shoeed the highest values at the monitoring period o 21.00-00.00 as consequences of human activities at night bazaar coupled with reduction of mixing layer, decreased wind speed and termination of photolysis nighttime. Morning peaks of carboaceous compounds were observed during the sampling period of 06:00 -09:00, emphasizing the main contribution of traffic emission in the three cities. The estimation of incremental lifetime partculate matter exposure (ILPE) raises concern of high risk of carbonaceous accumulation over workers and residents living close to the observatory sites. The average values of incremental lifrtime particulate matter exposure (ILPE) of total carbon at Baiyoke Suit Hotel and Baiyoke Sky Hotel are approsimately ten time shigher then those air sample collected at prince of songkla University Hat-Yai campus corpse incinerator and fish-can maufacturing factory but only slightly higher than those of rice straw burnig in Songkla province. This indicates a high risk of developing lung cancer and other respiratory diseases across workers and residents living in high buildings located in Pratunam area. Using knowledge of carbonaceous fractions in $PM_{10}$, one can estimate the gas-particle partitioning of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs). Dachs-Eisenreich model highlights the crucial role of adsorption in gas-particle partitioning of low molecular weight PAHs, whereas both absorption and adsorption tend to account for gas-particle partitioning of high molecular weight PAHs in urban residential zones of Thailand. Interestingly, the absorption mode alone plays a minor role in gas-partcle partitiining of PAHs in Chiang-Mai, Bangkok and hat-Yai.
The carbon precursor pitch from pyrolyzed fuel oil (PFO), by-product of Naphta cracking process (NCC), was prepared through heat and UV irradiation treatments with various concentrations of $AlCl_3$, which is a new pitch preparation method. The reformed pitches were characterized by measuring their elemental composition, chemical structure of components, molecular weight distribution, and softening point. The oxygen contents of reformed pitch increased as increasing $AlCl_3$ amounts on the other hand, the carbon and hydrogen contents were not nearly changed. UV irradiated reformed pitches were composed of more aromatic carbon compounds than that of using only heat-treatment without any UV irradiation. The addition of $AlCl_3$ catalyst was ineffective on the aromaticity of reformed pitches. The softening point of prepared pitches was in the range of $103.3{\sim}168.9^{\circ}C$. Also the yield of prepared pitch increased from 48% to 80% when 5 wt% of $AlCl_3$ was added during the heat and UV irradiation reforming. It is expected that the UV irradiation reforming method can be practical and helpful to produce high yields of pitches with diverse properties.
This study was conducted to develop a method of analysis for 4-hydroxy-L-isoleucine in the seed extract of fenugreek (Trigonella foenum graecum), a health functional food that contains dietary fiber. The analytical method for 4-hydroxy-L-isoleucine was derived with O-phthaldialdehyde reagent (OPA) and determined by HPLC-PDA. The method was performed on a Capcell Pak C18 UG 120 column (4.6×250 mm, 5 ㎛) in isocratic elution mode using disodium phosphate and acetonitrile. The validation of the developed analytical method was conducted by evaluating several parameters; selectivity, linearity, limit of detection (LOD), limit of quantification (LOQ), accuracy and repeatability. Excellent linearity (R2=0.999) was observed for 4-hydroxy-L-isoleucine in the concentration range (5-100 ㎍/mL). Observed recoveries of these compounds were found to be between 91.7 and 96.4%. Precision was between 0.2 and 2.4% relative standard deviation (%RSD).

The sensitivity of ozone to $NO_x$ and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emission rates under different ventilation rates and $NO_2-to-NO_x$ emission ratios in a street canyon is investigated using a chemistry box model. The carbon bond mechanism IV (CBM-IV) with 36 gaseous species and 93 chemical reactions is incorporated. $NO_x$ and VOCs emission rates considered range from 0.01 to $0.30ppb\;s^{-1}$ with intervals of $0.01ppb\;s^{-1}$. Three different ventilation rates and three different $NO_2-to-NO_x$ emission ratios are considered. The simulation results show that the ozone concentration decreases with increasing $NO_x$ emission rate but increases with increasing VOCs emission rate. When the emission ratio of VOCs to $NO_x$ is smaller than about 4, the ozone concentration is lower in the street canyon than in the background. On average, the magnitude of the sensitivity of ozone to $NO_x$ emission rate is significantly larger than that to VOCs emission rate. As the $NO_x$ emission rate increases, the magnitude of the sensitivity of ozone to $NO_x$ and VOCs emission rates decreases. Because the ozone concentration is lower in the street canyon than in the background, the increased ventilation rate enhances ozone inflow from the background. Therefore, the increase in ventilation rate results in the increase in ozone concentration and the decrease in the magnitude of the sensitivity of ozone to $NO_x$ and VOCs emission rates when the emission ratio of VOCs to $NO_x$ is smaller than about 4. On the other hand, the increase in $NO_2-to-NO_x$ emission ratio results in the increase in ozone concentration because the chemical ozone production due to the $NO_2$ photolysis is enhanced. In the present experimental setup, the contribution of the change in $NO_2-to-NO_x$ emission ratio to the change in the sensitivity of ozone to $NO_x$ emission rate is larger than that of the change in ventilation rate.

Malachite and Azurite are the typical copper system pigments which used the mural paintings since ancient times. The mural painting is at risk for damages of the painting layer by atmosphere gas because it is exposed at external environment. In this study, it did experiment about an effect to Malachite and Azurite by environmental pollution gas($NO_2$, $CO_2$, $SO_2$) then analysis and estimate about test for pieces using mural painting colored that two pigments. As a result, Malachite and Azurite were changed on $NO_2$ but not changed $CO_2$ and $SO_2$. Especially as the concentration of $NO_2$ is increased, exfoliation of the pigment layer weave remarkably formed pores on the pigment particles on SEM, the phenomenon to be pieces were observed together with smaller particles. In the case of Malachite that were exposed to $NO_2$ gas, new compounds(Rouaite : dicopper (nitrate(V) trihydroxide, $Cu_2(NO_3)(OH)_3$)) was appeared by XRD analysis. Therefore, there had been able to verify the fact that the cause exfoliation and discoloration phenomena accompanied by chemical changes for Malachite and Azurite.

Granular bamboo-derived active carbons (AC) were impregnated (or coated) with $TiO_2$ nano crystalline powders. The photocatalytic activity of the $TiO_2$-impregnated active carbons ($TiO_2$/AC) were determined on the basis of the degradation rate of methylene-blue aqueous solution under UV irradiation. The active compounds of $TiO_2$ were impregnated onto the AC under moderate hydrothermal conditions (${\leq}200^{\circ}C$, pH 11). The mean size of $TiO_2$ particles calculated from BET surface area were found to be as 50 nm. The $TiO_2$ precipitates were coated on the cavities or pores on the surfaces of highly activated carbons. Since the hydrothermal process led to a lowering of the on-set temperature of the anatase-to-rutile transition of $TiO_2$ as low as $200^{\circ}C$, $TiO_2$ crystallites of a pure anatase or a mixed form with rutile were successfully coated on the AC depending on the synthesis temperatures.
LiMn$_2$O$_4$ compounds were synthesized by calcining a mixture of LiOH and MnO$_2$(CMD) at 47$0^{\circ}C$ for 10 h and then calcining again at $650^{\circ}C$ to 90$0^{\circ}C$ fur 48 h in air with intermediate grinding. All the synthesized samples exhibited XRD patterns for the cubic spinel phase with a space group Fd3m. The lattice parameter increased gradually as the sintering temperature rose. The electrochemical cells were charged and discharged fur 20 cycles at a current density 300$\mu$A/$\textrm{cm}^2$ between 3.5 V and 4.3 V. The voltage vs. discharge capacity curves for all the samples showed two plateaus. The LiMn$_2$O$_4$ sample calcined at 90$0^{\circ}C$ had the largest first discharge capacity. This sample exhibited the best crystallinity, had relatively large lattice parameter and had relatively large particles with rectatively homogeneous size. All the samples showed good cycling performances. Among all the samples, the LiMn$_2$O$_4$ calcined at 85$0^{\circ}C$ had relatively large first discharge capacity and very good cycling performance. The addition of excess LiOH and the mixing in ethanol considered to help the formation of the more LiMn$_2$O$_4$ phase per unit weight sample and the more stable LiMn$_2$O$_4$phase. These led to the larger discharge capacities and the better cycling performances. The cyclic voltammograms fur the second cycle of the LiMn$_2$O$_4$ samples showed the oxidation and reduction peaks around 4.05 V and 4.18 V and around 4.08 V and 3.94 V, respectively. The larger first discharge capacity of the sample calcined at the higher temperature is related to the larger lattice parameter.
The effects of fruit maturation on changes in the total phenolics, flavonoids, and carotenoids of methanolic extracts of Citrus sudachi, in addition to its antioxidant and antidiabetic activities, were determined. Generally, the concentration of these chemical constituents increased as C. sudachi reached maturity. C. sudachi contained high levels of total phenolics, flavonoids, and carotenoids at maturity, contributing 6339.5 mg of gallic acid equivalent per 100 g, 2364.2 mg of rutin equivalent per 100 g, and 678.7 mg/ml, respectively. The scavenging activities of 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl hydrazyl (DPPH), hydrogen peroxide and nitric oxide radicals and the reducing power of mature fruits were significantly higher at all data points than those of immature fruits (p<0.05). In contrast, the ferrous ion chelating activity of mature and immature C. sudachi fruits was similar. The 50% effective concentrations (EC50) of mature fruits were 4.1±0.10 mg/ml for scavenging DPPH radicals, 3.1±0.02 mg/ml for scavenging hydrogen peroxide, 3.9±0.01 mg/ml for scavenging nitric oxide, and 3.8±0.02 mg/ml for chelating ferrous ion. The antidiabetic activity of C. sudachi was studied in vitro using the α-glucosidase inhibitory method. The inhibitory activity of mature C. sudachi fruits on α-glucosidase was higher than that of immature fruits. These results suggest that the content of bioactive compounds and the antioxidant and antidiabetic activities of C. sudachi change during maturation. These findings can be further extended to exploit them for their possible application for the preservation of food products, as well as their use as health supplements and nutraceuticals.
