  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between teacher's role and interaction patterns in mathematics classrooms. Teacher's role was divided into usual practices with students, usual practices with content and usual practices with students and contents, and interaction patterns were classified into report, inquiry and discussion. The subjects in this study were teachers and students in three fourth- grade classes in T elementary school located in Seoul. After the classes of every math teacher were observed, three teachers who played distinctively unique roles were selected in accordance with the results of the first-semester autonomous supervision, of open class for parents and of the instructional observation. Thus, there was a close relationship between the teacher roles and interaction patterns. And it's concluded that students are able to have a more discussion on each other's ideas in the student-centered classroom, and that teachers should perform active roles in that process. Given the findings of the study, there are some suggestions: First, the teachers appeared to fulfill consistent roles when their videotaped classes, study aids and performance assessment materials were analyzed, and they should play more active roles in mathematics class. Second, they should try to create the kinds of climate that encourages students to come up with ideas in an active manner. Third, earlier studies had focused on student-teacher interaction patterns, but this study found that the roles of the teachers depended on interaction with not only students but study aids and performance assessment materials, and that the interaction patterns hinged on their roles as well. Therefore more profound research efforts should be directed into this issue.

  • Competent mathematics teachers need to implement the responsive teaching strategy to use student thinking to make instructional decisions. However, the responsive teaching strategy is difficult to implement, and limited research has been conducted in traditional classroom settings. Therefore, we need a better understanding of responsive teaching practices to support mathematics teachers adopting and implementing them in their classrooms. Responsive teaching strategy is connected with teachers' noticing practice because mathematics teachers' ability to notice classroom events and student thinking is connected with their interaction with students. In this regard, this review introduced and examined a study of the relationship between mathematics teachers' noticing and responsive teaching: In the context of teaching for all students' mathematical thinking conducted by Kim et al. (2017).

  • The purpose of this study is to propose an improvement plan based on an analysis of the current earth science teacher education curriculum in the department of education in the four fields of teaching profession theory: student-teacher practice, subject lesson education, and subject content education. The following are the conclusions and suggestions of this study. In case of teaching profession theory, too much emphasis is put on pedagogical theory over practical issues, and a problem arises upon completion. Therefore, it is sugguest that teaching profession theory might be completed before subject lesson education to ensure more authentic subjects performing teaching profession. The current term for student-teacher training is too short to understand the whole school system. Current school system does not have any off-job training course or internship system. Therefore, student-teacher training term should be increased by at least $3{\sim}6$ months to play a vital role in the current system. The credit number of subject lesson education is too small compared with subject content education. Consequently, the credit number of subject lesson education should be increased, and more professor majored in subject lesson education should be recruited. Significant deviation between the content of subject content education and that of middle school grade exists, and there is also much difference in the ratio of subject according to university. To get rid of these problems, subject content education should be connected with subject lesson education and appropriate number of credit needs to be assigned to each subject domain.

  • Teacher quality is a topic of international concern, as it impacts student learning and teacher preparation. This study compared the undergraduate secondary science teacher preparation programs from two universities in Korea with those of Oregon, USA. We examined the programs' structural curricular coherence, conceptual curricular coherence, and curricular balance. Structural curricular coherence was determined by examining the overarching goals of the institutions' programs, the organization of the programs of study in terms of meeting those goals, and outside bodies of evidence. All universities were in structural coherence for various reasons. Conceptual curricular coherence was determined by examining students' perceptions of the connection between their preparation and their clinical practice. In case of Korea, most students from both universities were not satisfied with their practical preparation. In the US, the students from both institutions felt well prepared to transition to inservice teaching. To determine curricular balance, we examined the institutions' preparation programs looking at the credit hours taken in the four main areas of the teacher knowledge base: GPK (General Pedagogical Knowledge), SMK (Subject Matter Knowledge), PCK (Pedagogical Content Knowledge), and CK (Contextual Knowledge). The total credit hours taken in each category was very similar by country but the application and field component in the USA was far greater than those of Korea where the focus was heavily on SMK and PCK. The main reason for these may be the nations' licensing and employment processes.

  • Online games are very popular among adolescents in Korea. They sometimes lead to cyber delinquency. An ethnographic analysis was conducted in this study to address the social significance of online games. The results showed that the adolescents who were addicted to or indulged in the games were likely to commit delinquency online and/or offline. Delinquency in an information society is typically individualistic, whereas deviant behaviors in an industrial society are more social and collective, such as group violence. Parenting style, student-teacher relationship, peer pressure, game environment, and recreational facilities for the adolescents were intertwined with such adolescent delinquency. Finally, some implications of the online games from the perspective of social welfare practice were discussed to prevent online game indulgence and addiction and adolescent delinquency.

  • This thesis has two objects: Firstly, the arrangement of basic data and formulating a system of experiment and practice in home economics and Secondly, the groping the way of improving the problems raised in the home economics education spot. A questinaire is used as the research tools for the fitness of content, of experiment and practice in the home economics and SPSS/PC(sup)+ and Scheffe Test are used for investigation. The results are as follows. 1. Students recognize the importance of experiment & practice more than the teacher. In the type of middle school teachers engaged in the girl’s middle school recognize the importance of experiment & practice more than those of coeducation middle school. 2. The percent of the school which executes over the 50% of experiment & practice in the contents of text book is 70%. The most numerous in the sphere of guiding is ‘seperate practice of student’. The reason of not executing the experiment & practice are ‘the concentration of the theory education’and ‘the lack of equipment and tools’3. Practice room for cooking was mostly established, but practice room of sewing was established only 5.6%. The contents of textbook for clothing sphere can be executed by using the equipment & tools of school only 9.2%. 4. 40% of the students feel that the content level of experiment & practice is difficult. Most of the students feel that the content level of experiment & practice, especially in the sphere of clothing, in unproper on the level fitness of contents by grade. 5. Most of the students assent on the positive effect for the degree and the most important cause for its not contributing to the everday life is the lack of experiment & practice in school. 6. Most of the students feels positively on the interest degree of content and the students who though much of the experment & practice feels positively on the interest degree of content.

  • Although over - 600 students in Incheon has been participated in the gifted education programs under the colleges and Office of Education Department every year, it is reported that the number of teachers have insufficient teaching abilities in primary, advanced, and after-advanced gifted classes. The Gifted Education Research Institute in Incheon University introduced R&E activities for the improvement of teachers' abilities in science research and student guiding. Professors in science department conducted the R & E activities to select the research thesis. The professors and the guidance teachers decided the directions of the research, and the guidance teachers who learned from the professors taught 3-5 students to practice the research. Five professor-teacher-student research teams in math, physics, chemistry and biology conducted the research after school and during the vacation for 7 months. The results of the research were submitted to the journals of research activities and the result papers were presented to the seminar. On this research, the possibilities and the difficulties of the R&E activities based of the journals of research activities, oral presentation and the research results reports were analyzed with a purpose of improving the professionalism of the science gifted teachers. Although the professors proposed many difficulties or problems about the R&E activities, the teachers reported that the R & E activities he1ped them to improve their research activities and student guiding techniques. The teachers acquired more knowledge on the principles of the science related areas than before. Moreover, they thought it was very meaningful experience in using the science related instruments, guiding the students' research and writing the research reports. The students also gave the positive responses with the increased interests in new science studies and with the experience of learning the way of research.

  • The purposes of this study are to understand pre-service science teachers' areas of practice concern and reflections on the science classes during student-teaching, and to grasp the factors affecting their concerns and reflections. Four pre-service science teachers participated in this study. Data were collected from four pre-service science teachers' practice journals, instructional materials, and semi-structured individual interviews after their student-teaching. The results are as follows: firstly, the pre-service teachers' concern is focused on the teaching environment and strategies, particularly classroom atmosphere and class management. On the other hand, they pay little attention to science content. Secondly, pre-service teachers' reflections are confined within the limited areas such as classroom management, the proper role as science teachers, or various teaching materials. The level of their reflections is low, mostly concentrated on 'routine' or 'technical' level. Higher levels of reflections, such as 'dialogic' or 'transformative' are not revealed at all. Thirdly, the mentor teachers have the biggest influence upon the concerns and reflections of pre-service teachers during student-teaching.
