Vibration control of a framed structure by an air-pulse actuator

  • This paper describes an application of an air-pulse actuator for vibration control of a framed structure. Dynamic characteristics of the prototype actuator that utilizes an air-jet reaction force pulsated by an electromagnetic valve were investigated to use it as a control actuator. Using a control law based on the sliding mode control theory, experiments of the vibration control were carried out. The experimental results verified the validity of the actuator performance.

  • We present new efficient interaction measures which can be used for control operability analysis and Control Structure selection in decentralized control systems. These measures can indicate not only the stability of decentralized control systems but also the true closed-loop Performance of the decentralized control structure. Relationships between published measures and proposed ones are clarified. Some important characteristics of these. measures are rigorously analyzed. The significance and the usefulness of the proposed method have been illustrated through examples found in the literature.

  • In this paper, a variable structure control scheme with a terminal sliding mode is proposed for robot manipulators. The proposed control scheme guarantees that the output tracking error converges to zero in finite time, and the overall system shows robust property against parametric uncertainties and external disturbances all the time.

  • A new control scheme for the variable-structure control system using new time-varying switching variable is presented in this paper. It is proposed to have new algorithm for reducing the reaching time on a switching hyperplane by modifying the Morgan's algorithm. From the results of the simulation, it is concluded the proposed control algorithm yields smaller control inputs (without disturbance) and ripples (with disturbance) than that obtained by Morgan's algorithm in the steady-state. This control algorithm can be applied to proper control systems having sensitive effects on disturbances, due to the robustness.

  • Performance evaluation of advanced piezoelectric composite actuator is conducted with its application of structural vibration control. Characteristics of MFC (macro fiber composite) actuator are investigated by comparing traditional piezoceramic patch actuator. Finite element modeling is used to obtain equations of motion and boundary effects of smart hull structure with MFC actuator. Dynamic characteristics of the smart hull structure are studied through modal analysis and experimental investigation. LQG control algorithm is employed to investigate active damping of hull structure. It is observed that vibration of hull structure is suppressed effectively by the MFC actuators.

맞춤형 테트라블록을 이용한 야계사방공작물이 계류생태계에 미치는 영향 (Influences of the Construction of the Torrent Control Structure Using Customized Tetrapods on the Stream Water Ecology at Valley)

  • 이 연구는 경상남도 산청군 홍계 계곡에 설치한 맞춤형 테트라블록을 이용한 야계사방공작물의 설치 전 후의 계류수질, 어류, 수서생물 등 계류생태계의 변화를 밝힘으로써 산림내 계류수질 보전 및 관리방안 마련을 위한 기초 자료를 제공하기 위하여 수행하였다. 연구결과, 맞춤형 테트라블록을 이용한 야계사방공작물은 시공 후 2년이 경과한 뒤에도 계류수의 pH는 하천수질환경기준 상수원수 1급수의 범위 내였다. 맞춤형 테트라블록을 이용한 야계사방공작물의 시공 후 2년이 경과하는 동안 계류수의 용존산소량은 거의 변화하지 않았으며, 전기전도도는 오염원이 없는 맑고 깨끗한 일반적인 계류수에서의 전기전도도의 범위 내에 포함되었다. 맞춤형 테트라블록을 이용한 야계사방공작물은 어류 및 다슬기가 소상하는데 아무런 영향을 주지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 아울러 맞춤형 테트라블록을 이용한 야계사방공작물을 설치한 계류수는 오염되지 않은 일반적인 계류수질과 유사하고 어류 및 다슬기의 소상에 영향하지 않아, 이러한 야계사방공작물 설치에 따른 계류수질 오염 및 계류생태계의 영향은 나타나지 않은 것으로 분석되었다.

  • 이 연구는 경상남도 산청군 홍계 계곡에 설치한 맞춤형 테트라블럭을 이용한 야계사방구조물의 설치 전 후의 계류수질 변화를 밝힘으로써 산림내 계류수질 보전 및 관리방안 마련을 위한 기초 자료를 제공하기 위하여 수행하였다. 연구결과, 맞춤형 테트라블록(Tetrapod)을 이용한 야계사방구조물을 시공한 후에도 계류수의 pH는 하천수질환경기준 상수원수 1급수의 범위 내였다. 맞춤형 테트라블록을 이용한 야계사방구조물의 시공 후 계류수의 용존산소량 (Dissolved Oxygen)은 거의 변화하지 않았으며, 전기전도도(Electrical Conductivity)는 오염원이 없는 맑고 깨끗한 일반적인 계류수에서의 전기전도도의 범위 내에 포함되었다. 맞춤형 테트라블록을 이용한 야계사방구조물을 설치한 후 계류수 하류의 평균 음이온량(Average of total amount of anion)은 약 3.07/2.30~3.60 mg/L로 맞춤형 테트라블록을 이용한 야계사방구조물을 설치하기 전과의 차이는 약 0.24 mg/L로 그 양도 미미한 것으로 분석되었다. 아울러 맞춤형 테트라블록을 이용한 야계사방구조물을 설치한 계류수는 오염되지 않은 일반적인 계류수에서의 수질과 유사하여, 이러한 야계사방구조물 설치에 따른 계류수질 오염의 영향은 나타나지 않은 것으로 분석되었다.

  • The interaction between a vibrating structure and a surrounding acoustic medium determines the acoustic power propagating into the far-field. A straightforward method to reduce the radiated power is to reduce the vibration of the structure. However it is more efficient to control the modes of the structure separately since each vibration mode of the structure has different radiation efficiency. An efficient method to reduce the sound radiation in the low frequency region is proposed by reducing the radiation efficiency of the structure.

  • It is demanded to find the dynamic model of a real structure to design a controller. However, as the structure has inherently infinite number of degree-of-freedom, it is impossible to obtain an exact dynamic model of the structure. Instead a reduction model with finite degree-of-freedom is used for the design of a controller. So there exists uncertainty between a real model and a reduction model which causes poor performance of control. All these uncertainties can degrade the control performance and even cause the control instability. Thus, robust control strategy considering the above uncertainties can be an alternative one to guarantee the performance and stability of the control. This study deals with the experimental verification of robust controller design for the active mass driver. $\mu$-synthesis technique is employed as a robust control strategy. Some weights are chosen based on the difference between the initial plant with which the controller is designed and the perturbed plant to be controlled having the actuator uncertainty. The robustness of $\mu$-synthesis technique is compared with the result of LQG strategy, which does not consider the uncertainty.

Nonlinear control of structure using neuro-predictive algorithm

  • A new neural network (NN) predictive controller (NNPC) algorithm has been developed and tested in the computer simulation of active control of a nonlinear structure. In the present method an NN is used as a predictor. This NN has been trained to predict the future response of the structure to determine the control forces. These control forces are calculated by minimizing the difference between the predicted and desired responses via a numerical minimization algorithm. Since the NNPC is very time consuming and not suitable for real-time control, it is then used to train an NN controller. To consider the effectiveness of the controller on probability of damage, fragility curves are generated. The approach is validated by using simulated response of a 3 story nonlinear benchmark building excited by several historical earthquake records. The simulation results are then compared with a linear quadratic Gaussian (LQG) active controller. The results indicate that the proposed algorithm is completely effective in relative displacement reduction.
