  • There are a lot of linear dynamic analysis methods for complex structures. Each method has advantages and shortcomings. Method of dynamic analysis for complex structure is selected considering characteristics of dynamic loading, computer facility available number of degree of freedem and accuracy of results. It is a main point of view to get economical results rather then accurate ones for analysis of general complex structures, Mode superposition method and direct integration method are generally used. However, the characteristics of load is not considered in mode superpositon method, the personal computer cannot be used in direct integration methods. To over-come these shortcomings, the component mode method incorporating Ritz algorithm updated is proposed to solve economically dynamic behavior of the structures. The purpose of study is a formulation of algorithm, and computer programing suitable for dynamic analysis of the complex structure in personal computer environment.

  • Welding deformations injure the beauty of appearance of a structure, decrease its buckling strength and prevent increase of productivity. Welding deformations of real structures are complicated and the accurate prediction of welding deformations has been a difficult problem. This study proposes a method to predict the welding deformations of large structures accurately and practically based on the simplified thermal elasto-plastic analysis method. The proposed method combines the inherent strain theory with the numerical or theoretical analysis method and the experimental results. The weld joint is assumed to be divided into 3 regions such as inherent strain region, material softening region and base metal region. Characteristic material properties are used in structural modeling and analysis for reasonable simplification. Calculated results by this method show good agreement with the experimental results. It was proven that this method gives an accurate and efficient solution for the problem of welding deformation calculation of large structures.

  • Nowadays, research of EMI/EMC is very important in electromagnetic wave surroundings generated from many electric and electronic devices. Especially, analysis of electromagnetic radiation characteristic and field have to be performed first of all. At the present most of EMI/EMC problems are solved by the method of practice and inspiration. Hence in this paper, will provide the first step for solving EMI/EMC problems in design process. Model of analysis is structure composed of PCB and Frame. By the first step, theory of dipole antenna is adapted to analyze electromagnetic radiation characteristic and field. Because it is fundamental of analysis of electromagnetic radiation. And it will be expanded for structure of PCB and Frame. Finally, it provide the basic method of analysis of electromagnetic radiation characteristic and field by making similar dipole antenna to PCB and Frame structure.

  • The equivalent static force procedure and the response spectrum analysis method are widely used for seismic analyses of multi-story buildings. The equivalent static force procedure is one of the most simple but less accurate method in predicting possible seismic response of a structure. The response spectrum analysis method provides more accurate results while it takes much longer computational time. In the response spectrum method, dynamic response of a multi-story building is obtained by combining modal responses through a proper procedure such as SRSS or CQC method. Since all of the analysis results are expressed in absolute values, structural engineers have difficulties to combine them with the results obtained from the static analysis. Design automation is interrupted at this stage because of the difficulty in the decision of the most critical design load. Pseudo-dynamic analysis method proposed in this study provides more accurate seismic analysis results than those of the equivalent static force procedure since the dynamic characteristics of a structure is considered. And the proposed method has an advantage in combination of the analysis results due to gravity loads and seismic loads since the direction of the forces can be considered.

  • In this study. two-dimensional heat flow and residual stress in arc brazing to join the pipe and plate structure were analyzed by using a commercialized FEM package. Advantages offered by arc brazing are that strong joints can be produced with lower heat input than that of previous gas metal arc welding and narrower heat affected zone can usually be obtained than that in the case of torch brazing. To investigate the effects of process variables and minimize the thermal effects on the structure, this study presents a method for analyzing the heat flow and residual stress in arc brazing process according to variables such as traveling speed, torch angle and position. The simulation results were compared with the experimental ones to verify the numerical analysis method. The experiments include the measurement of HAZ size from the section of joints and residual stresses by using strain gages named 'section method'. A comparatively good agreement between the results of numerical analysis and experimental ones could be obtained in both of the temperature distribution and residual stress of the brazed structure. Using the proposed numerical analysis method, the process parameters were evaluated to get proper arc brazing conditions.

  • This paper presents the global-local finite cover method (GL-FCM) that is capable of analyzing structures involving local heterogeneities and propagating cracks. The suggested method is composed of two techniques. One of them is the FCM, which is one of the PU-based generalized finite element methods, for the analysis of local cohesive crack growth. The mechanical behavior evaluated in local heterogeneous structures by the FCM is transferred to the overall (global) structure by the so-called mortar method. The other is a method of mesh superposition for hierarchical modeling, which enables us to evaluate the average stiffness by the analysis of local heterogeneous structures not subjected to crack propagation. Several numerical experiments are conducted to validate the accuracy of the proposed method. The capability and applicability of the proposed method is demonstrated in an illustrative numerical example, in which we predict the mechanical deterioration of a reinforced concrete (RC) structure, whose local regions are subjected to propagating cracks induced by reinforcement corrosion.

  • Most connections of steel structures exhibit flexible behaviour under cyclic loading. The flexible connections can be assumed as nonlinear rotational springs attached to the ends of each beam. The nonlinear behaviour of the connections can be considered by suitable moment-rotation relationship. Time-history analysis by direct integration method can be used as a powerful technique to determine the nonlinear dynamic response of the structure. In conventional numerical integration, the response is evaluated for a series of short time increments. The limitations on the size of time intervals can be removed by using Chen and Robinson improved time history analysis method, in which the integrated displacements are used as the new variables in integrated equation of motion. The proposed method permits longer time intervals and reduces the computational works. In this paper the nonlinearity behaviour of the structure is summarized on the connections, and the step by step improved time-history analysis is used to calculate the dynamic response of the structure. Several numerical calculations which indicate the applicability and advantages of the proposed methodology are presented. These calculations illustrate the importance of the effect of the nonlinear behaviour of the flexible connections in the calculation of the dynamic response of steel frames.

  • A camera module that gathers visual information via aerial observation reconnaissance is equipped inside a gimbal structure. This gimbal structure system must reduce dynamic responses in order to obtain clear images under all circumstances. Among many design specifications for this system, there is MIL-STD-810G as a shock standard. This specification indicates a limitation of the acceleration of the camera module under a base shock excitation on the gimbal structure. The satisfaction of this condition can usually be proved by experiment, because it includes bearings and dynamic isolators made of rubber. Numerical analysis must be proposed for design improvement of the gimbal structure. To achieve this goal, transient response analysis for the base shock excitation was performed using the finite element method. Experimental results were compared with numerical solutions and it is shown that the present method is useful.

  • Dynamic analysis of a concrete pipes armed with Silica ($SiO_2$) nanoparticles subjected to earthquake load is presented. The structure is modeled with first order shear deformation theory (FSDT) of cylindrical shells. Mori-Tanaka approach is applied for obtaining the equivalent material properties of the structure considering agglomeration effects. Based on energy method and Hamilton's principle, the motion equations are derived. Utilizing the harmonic differential quadrature method (HDQM) and Newmark method, the dynamic displacement of the structure is calculated for the Kobe earthquake. The effects of different parameters such as geometrical parameters of pipe, boundary conditions, $SiO_2$ volume percent and agglomeration are shown on the dynamic response of the structure. The results indicate that reinforcing the concrete pipes by $SiO_2$ nanoparticles leads to a reduction in the displacement of the structure during an earthquake.
