Architecture constraints in buildings may typically cause irregularities in the distribution of stiffness and mass and consequently causes non-compliance of centers of mass, stiffness and strength. Such buildings are known as asymmetric buildings the distribution of strength and stiffness is one of whose main challenges. This distribution is more complicated for concrete buildings with RC shear walls in which stiffness and strength are interdependent parameters. The flexibility under the foundation is another subject that can affect this distribution due to the variation of dynamic properties of the structure and its constituting elements. In this paper, it is attempted to achieve an appropriate distribution pattern by expressing the effects of foundation flexibility on the seismic demand of concrete shear walls and also evaluate the effects of this issue on strength and stiffness distribution among lateral force resistant elements. In order to understand the importance of flexibility in strength and stiffness distribution for an asymmetric building in different conditions of under-foundation flexibility, the assigned value to each of the walls is numerically calculated and eventually a procedure for strength and stiffness distribution dependencies on flexibility is provided.
This study investigated the effect of moisture content and loading direction on dowel bearing strength of two types of SCL. Dowel bearing tests of LVL and PSL were conducted with two different MC level, 7.5% and 19%, and two different oriention, L-direction(loading parallel to grain) and X-direction(loading perpendicular to grain). Most of specimens showed typical load-deformation curves and intersected 5% offset line. Failure modes were classified into two categories; spliting(for L-direction specimens) and peeling(for X-direction specimens). Dowel bearing strength generally decreased with increasing MC. The decreasing rate was more significant in X-directon. ESG also decreased with increasing MC, and the ratio of ESG of 7.5% versus 19% was about 1.47. Dowel bearing strength of LVL and PSL in L-direction was higher than that of X-direction. This results indicated that MC and loading orientation had a significant effect on dowel bearing strength of SCL. The average dowel bearing strength of LVL were higher than that of PSL in each loading direction. Two types of probability distribution model were chosen to quantify strength distribution, normal and 2-parameter weibull distribution. The two models showed good agreement with the data, especially in lower tail of the cumulative distribution. Normal and 2-parameter weibull distribution seemed to proper model of the dowel bearing strength for each MC levels.

The aim of this study was to estimate adverse effect on compression strength of corrugated fiberboard containers due to vibration during distribution process. Distribution environment such as road conditions and compression strength of corrugated fiberboard containers for selected agricultural products were studied. We found that increasing humidity does not effect significantly on natural frequencies of boxes, but results in accelerative effect to decrease compression strength of boxes. Box structures and product types also effect on loss of compression strength greatly.
Weibull distribution function is applied very successfully to the strength of brittle materials such as ceramics and the weakest link model is applied to explain the ovents. This paper deals with the effect of specimen size on the strength of ceramics. The values of tensile strength were calculated by the Monte-Calro simuation. The tensile strength obtained was plotted on Weibull probabillity papers and represented by the 3-parameter Weibull distribution. The strength distribution function was compared with the theoretical weibull distribution. As a result, it was found that the Weibull shape parameter was changed due to the size and there was a possibility of a false indication as if the weakest link model holds good. We should be very careful when we apply the Weibull statistics to estimate the strength of products.

Pitting corrosion commonly shaped in hull structure due to marine corrosive environment seriously causes the deterioration of structural performance. This paper deals with the ultimate strength behaviors of stiffened ship panels damaged by the pits subjected to uniaxial compression. A series of no-linear finite element analyses are carried out for three stiffened panels using ABAQUS software. Influences of the investigated typical parameters of pit degree (DOP), depth, location and distribution on the ultimate strength strength are discussed in detail. It is found that the ultimate strength is significantly reduced with increasing the DOP and pit depth and severely affected by the distribution. In addition, the pits including their distributions on the web have a slight effect on the ultimate strength. Compared with regular distribution, random one on the panel result in a change of collapse mode. Finally, an empirical formula as a function of corrosion volume loss is proposed for predicting the ultimate strength of stiffened panel.

One of the causes of recent construction site collapses was that the compressive strength of concrete was less than half of the allowable design standard strength range. In the safety diagnosis of structures, the compressive strength of concrete is a factor that determines the durability of a building. Therefore, in this study, we aim to examine the characteristics of compressive strength according to the particle size distribution of coarse aggregate among the compressive strength factors using small-diameter cores. To avoid problems when collecting cores, core specimens with diameters of 100×200, 50×100, and 25×50 (mm) were manufactured directly. As a result of measuring the compressive strength of concrete for each diameter, the larger the core diameter, the higher the compressive strength. has increased.

In this paper, We assume that strengths of two components system follow a bivariate pareto distribution. And these two components are subjected to a common stress which is independent of the strength of the components. We obtain maximum likelihood estimator(MLE) for the system reliability from stress-strength relationship. Also we derive asymptotic properties of the MLE and present a numerical study.

In order to evaluate strength of spot welded joint, at first it is importent that we should know strain distribution near nugget zone. During loading, in HAZ, compressive strain increase with Increase of load, but in nugget zone tensile strain increase. During unloading, on the other hand, even through the decreases, the strain variation is not almost appeared in nugget zone and HAZ. In nugget boundary zone, the strain range increases continuously along with load increase on outer surface, but the strain increases continunously and decreases rapidly beyond yield strength on inner surface. In this paper, strain distribution are measured in inner and outer surface with variation of thickness and load under tensile-shear load. Tensile-shear strength increased as with increase of specimen thickness. As for thickness increase rates are 25%, 50%, 100%, and 150%, tensile-shear strength in crease rates are 40%, 81%, 130% and 228%.

In this paper, the tensile strength in aluminum alloy 5052, Kevlar 49-fiber reinforced aluminum alloy laminates, and Glass-fiber reinforced aluminum alloy laminates, is statistically evaluated. Prepregs manufactured in Han Kuk Fiber is used and FRMLs is cured by Hot-Press. Standard statistical are used to determine the distribution function which best fits FRMLs strength data. The normal,lpg-normal, and two-parameter Weibull distrbuttion are evaluated using the Kolmogoorov-Smirnov goodness-of-fit test. At the 5% significance level, none of these distribution is rejected. The strength of Aluminum alloy 5052 is best fits to a normal distribution. However, the strength of Kevlar 49-fiber reinforced aluminum alloy laminates and Glass-fiber reinforced aluminum alloy laminates is best fits to a two-parameter Weibull distribution.
To estimate the compressive strength of concrete more realistically, relative large number of data are necessary. However, it is very common in practice that only limited data are available. The purpose of the present paper is therefore to propose a realistic method to estimate the compressive strength of concrete with limited data in actual site. The Bayesian method of statistical analysis has been applied to the problem of the estimation of compressive strength of concrete. The mean compressive strength is considered as the random parameter and a prior distribution is selected to enable updating of the Bayesian distribution of compressive strength of concrete reflecting both existing data and sampling observations. The updating of the Bayesian distribution with increasing data is illustrated in numerical application. It is shown that by combining prior estimation with information from site observation, more precise estimation is possible with relatively small sampling. It is also seen that the contribution of the prior in determining the posterior distribution depends on its sharpness or flatness in relation to the sharpness or flatness of the likelihood function. The present paper allows more realistic determination of concrete strength in site with limited data.
