  • The seismic capacity of columns usually has been tested in uniaxial loading condition. The seismic performance used to be evaluated under the same assumption. Since the real earthquake motion is multi-directional, the effects of multi-directional excitation on the seismic capacity of structures need to be carefully examined. In this paper, a frequency dependent alternate biaxial cyclic loading test is proposed as an evaluation method of seismic capacity under multi-directional excitation. Four test specimens were made and tested to study the degradation of strength, stiffness and ductility under biaxial loading condition. A multi- directional excitation. The capacity is obtained using frequency dependent alternate biaxial cyclic loading test. The orthogonal effect is taken into account by increasing the demand.

  • The aim of Cast-In-Place(CIP) method is to upgrade the strength, ductility and stiffness of the structure to the required level. The main objective of this research is to investigate the shear and the flexural strength of reinforced concrete frames infilled with CIP reinforced concrete wall. For this three 1/3 scale, one-bay, one story reinforced concrete infill wall were tested under reversed cyclic loading simulating the seismic effect. Results of tests of CIP shear wall were reviewed to evaluate the current design provisions and to establish the feasible retrofitting method.

  • Performance based seismic design is a very efficient method in evaluating the seismic capacity of building. In this study, the method estimating the performance point of the spatial structures based on capacity spectrum method(CSM) is proposed. And for efficient evaluation for the performance point of the spatial structures, the algorithm to convert spatial structural system to ESDOF system is proposed. Its efficiency is confirmed by comparing with time history analysis of full model. And dynamic behaviors of spatial structures are examined by using this method. At last, evaluation of structural performance according to variation of stiffness after plastic deformation is carried out.

  • Large panel building systems are composed of vertical wall panels which support horizontal roof and floor panels to form a box like structure. The simplecity of the connections, which makes precast concrete economically viable, causes a lack of continuity in stiffness, strength and ductility. This precast concrete large panel systems typically have weak connection regions. Three types of 2-story full-scale precast concrete subassemblages were tested under reversed cyclic loading. The seismic resistance capacity and failure mode of each system are compared in connection with the characteristics of joint connection details.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the inelastic behavior of hollow reinforced concrete bridge piers under varying axial load. The role of the variable axial load is very important in the ductility, strength, stiffness, and energy dissipation. A computer program, named RCAHEST(Reinforced Concrete Analysis in Higher Evaluation System Technology), for the analysis of reinforced concrete structures was used. Material nonlinearity is taken into account by comprising tensile, compressive and shear models of cracked concrete and a model of reinforcing steel. The proposed numerical method for the inelastic behavior of hollow reinforced concrete bridge piers under varying axial load is verified by comparison with reliable experimental results.

  • A Steel plate shear wall can be used as one of the lateral force resistant elements in buildings. It have many advantages from a structural point of view such as ductility, energy absorption capacity and initial stiffness etc. In this study to grasp the behavior of steel plate shear wall considering material and geometrical non-linearity, the FEM analyses were carried out using ANSYS(ver. 5.6) program. The analysis results were fully discussed and compared with test results to verify the validity of analysis method. The object of this study is to find out analytically the elasto-plastic behavior of un-stiffened steel plate shear wall.

  • In this thesis, a series of loading tests are conducted in order to investigate the fracture safety of GFRP(Glass Fiber Reinforced Plastics) pipes under fatigue load which are widely used in the developed countries becauses of their natural of anticorrosion and lightweight etc. . Fatigue test is performed by changing number of laminates and loading cycles to examine the flexural strains, the ductility and the fatigue strength for two million repeated loading cycles. From the fatigue test results, it was found that the larger the laminates of GFRP pipes is, the larger the stiffness of GFRP pipes under the fatigue load increases. This phenomenon is true until the fatigue failure. According to the S-N curve drawn by the regression analysis on the fatigue test results, the fatigue strength of percent of the static ultimate strength increases by increasing the laminates of GFRP pipes. The fatigue strength with two million repeated leading cycles in GFRP pipes with the laminates of GFRP pipes varing 15, 25, 35 shows about 75%, 80%, 84% on the static ultimate strength, respectively.

  • The purpose of this study is to compare the response of the high-strength concrete beam-column-slab subassembly with the response of a normal-strength concrete specimens. Four assemblies were designed 2/3 scale beam-column-slab joint(fc'=240kg/cm2 fc'=700kg/cm2) and tested to investigate seismic behaviour. From the test results 1) flexral cracks emerge to inside of bean deeply for high strength concrete member 2) the high-strength specimens represented stable hysteretic behaviour for the displacement ductility 5.5 but degradation in stiffness and strength and unstable hysteretic behaviors were observed owing to the brittleness of high-strength concrete beyond its range.

  • In this paper three damaged exterior RC beam-column joints made of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) were repaired. The aim of the study was to restore back the lost capacity of the beam-column joint to the original state or more. A relatively cheap material locally available galvanized steel welded wire mesh (GSWWM) of grid size 25 mm was used to confine the damaged region and then jacketed with cement mortar. Repaired specimens were also subjected to similar cyclic displacement as those of unrepaired specimens. Seismic parameters such as load carrying capacity, ductility, energy dissipation, stiffness degradation etc. were analyzed. Results show that repaired specimens exhibited better seismic performance and hence the adopted repairing strategies could be considered as satisfactory. These findings would be helpful to the field engineers to adopt a suitable rapid and cost efficient repairing technique for restoring the damaged frame structural joints for post earthquake usage.

  • The objective of this paper was to discuss the seismic performance of hybrid FRP-steel reinforced concrete shear wall with replaceable friction dampers at the feet of the wall. The hysteretic characteristics of five wall specimens were studied by pseudo-static loading tests. The results showed that the damage of the specimens was concentrated on the friction dampers, and the energy consumption capacity was increased while making up for the defect of low ductility of FRP reinforced wall specimens. And the repairability of the wall after earthquake was improved. Finally, a calculation method of initial stiffness of shear wall with replaceable dampers was proposed.
