  • The purpose of this study was to investigate stereotypes, affect and social distance toward people from Southeast Asia among visiting supervisors for multicultural families and to explore the factors that influence social distance. The subjects were 243 visiting supervisors for multicultural families. The data were analyzed with SPSS for Windows 15.0 through means, standard deviations, Cronbach's a, Scheff$\acute{e}$ tests, Pearson's correlation, and stepwise regression. It was found that stereotypes and affect among visiting supervisors toward people from Southeast Asia were somewhat positive, at a little higher than midpoint. Social distance, on the other hand, was found to be a little lower than midpoint. To discover the factors that influenced social distance, a stepwise regression was executed. Stereotype was the factor with the highest magnitude of effect and affect was the second- strongest factor in explaining the social distance found among visiting supervisors. Age was the third significant factor in explaining social distance. These variables accounted for 35.7% of variance in the social distance data.

  • Purpose: This study was done to explore the relationship between aggression and internet over-use, depression-anxiety, self-esteem, all of which are known to be behavior and psychological characteristics linked to "at-risk" children for aggression. Methods: Korean-Child Behavior Check List (K-CBCL), Korean-Internet Addiction Self-Test Scale, and Self-Esteem Scale by Rosenberg (1965) were used as measurement tools with a sample of 743, 5th-6th grade students from 3 elementary schools in Jecheon city. Chi-square, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation and stepwise multiple regression with SPSS/Win 13.0 version were used to analyze the collected data. Results: Aggression for the elementary school students was positively correlated with internet over-use and depression-anxiety, whereas self-esteem was negatively correlated with aggression. Stepwise multiple regression analysis showed that 68.4% of the variance for aggression was significantly accounted for by internet over-use, depression-anxiety, and self-esteem. The most significant factor influencing aggression was depression-anxiety. Conclusion: These results suggest that earlier screening and intervention programs for depression-anxiety and internet over-use for elementary student will be helpful in preventing aggression.

  • Theoretical and experimental study is conducted on the contact pressure distribution of a radial tire in motion under various camber angles. Tire construction is modelled by a spring bedded elastic ring, consisted of sidewall springs and a composite belt ring. The contact area is assumed to be a trapezoidal shape varying with camber angles and weighted load. The basic equation in a quasi-static form is derived for the deformation of a running belt with a constant velocity by the aid of Lagrange-Euler transformation. Galerkin's method and stepwise calculation are applied for solving the basic equation and the mechanical boundary condition along both sides of the contact belt part subjected to shearing forces transmitted from the sidewall spring. Experimental results on the contact pressure, measured by pressure sensors embedded in the surface of the drum tester, correspond well with the calculated ones for the test tire under various camber angles, running velocities and weighted loads. These results indicate that a buckling phenomenon of the contact belt in the widthwise direction occurs due to the effect of camber angle.
