  • Bond strength of reinforcing bar to high-performance concrete using belite cement is explored using beam end test specimen. The key parameters for the bond test are slump of concrete, top bar effect, and strength of concrete in addition to concrete covers. Specimen failed in the typical brittle bond failure splitting the concrete cover as the wedging action. The test results show that the specimens with belire cement concrete show higher bond strength than those with portland cement concrete. Bond strength of the top bar is less than bond strength of bottom bar, but the top bar factor satisfies the modification factor for top reinforcement. The results also show that the bond strength is function of the square root of concrete compressive strength and cover thickness. The recently developed high-strength and high-slump concrete with belite cement performs well in terms of bond strength to reinforcing steel.

  • Influencing factors on flexural toughness of ring-type fiber reinforced concrete(RSFRC) are investigated. An experiment proceeding ASTM C 78 is peformed to make a comparison between ring-type fibers and double-hook type fibers. Most specimen with ring type fibers have failed by the cone type failure, while discrete hook type fibers have failed by fiber pullout. For the hook-type fiber reinforced concrete(SFRC), the first crack load increases, as the fiber mixing volume increases. Aspect ratio(fiber length/fiber diameter) is critical for hook type fibers, so the flexural toughness increases significantly, as the length of fiber increases. However, for the ring type, the toughness indices Increase as the number of fibers in the specimen increases. Since there is no bond problem between the ring fiber and the concrete matrix, the aspect ratio does not affect the performance of the composite material with the newly developed steel fibers. Influencing factors with respect to flexural toughness RSFRC were observed to be ring diameter, diameter of steel fiber and fiber content.

  • The fatigue characteristics of Si-Mn spring steel (AISI 9260-H, JIS SUP-6) were investigated on several heat treatment conditions. Repeated impact loads of 10kg-cm and 15kg-cm energy were applied with a cam roller drop hammer type impact fatigue testing machine. Specimens were oil-quenched, and tempered at 350.deg. C, 450.deg. C and 500.deg. C, respectively. Results obtained in these experiments are summarized as follows.; 1) The fatigue life of the specimen is decreased as the magnitude of constant impact energy is increased, regardless of heat treatment. 2) Generally, the fatigue life of the specimen is decreased as the tensile strength of the materials is increased. 3) Within the limit of these experiments, the fatigue life showed abrupt decrease at the tempering temperature of about 400.deg. C 4) The fatigue life is increased as the initial value of applied stress intensity factor(K$_{1}$) is decreased. This tendency is apparent for the low tensile strength materials.

  • An experimental work is performed to evaluate the retrofit method of damaged flexural walls. For two flexural walls damaged up to almost failure, reinforcements yielded and concrete below height of 1d are replaced with new reinforcements and steel fiber concrete, respectively. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of Aramid sheet for retrofitting walls, Aramid sheet is also, attached to longitudinal direction and rolled horizontal direction of one wall specimen. Horizontal cyclic loads are applied to the top of the specimen with constant axial load. Test result showed that retrofitting with steel fiber concrete after replacing reinforcements can not afford to recover 100% of the wall capacity before damage. However, the capacity of walls could be sufficiently strengthened by using Aramid sheet.

  • Fracture toughness defined near the initiation of stable crack growth is investigated by R-curve and Direct Current electric Potential Determination(DCPD) under mode I plane strain conditions for CT specimen with 25.4mm thickness of SS400 steel. Fracture toughness. $J_{IC}$lit near crack tip of CT specimen by R-curve is 17.14 $kg_{f}/mm$ and however. its value by DCPD is 22.82 $Rg_{f} mm$ The value of fracture toughness by DCPD is larger than that by R-curve. Therefore, it is suggested that the evaluation of fracture toughness by R-curve is optimum than by DCPD, when considering amount of crack growth about each of fracture toughness.

  • Recent construction activities and maintenance of marine facilities have been accelerating to keep up with rapid economic growth in Korea. Marine concrete structures are to salts and chloride from ocean environments. The corrosion of reinforcement steel caused by chloride-penetration into concrete may severely affect the durability of concrete structures. the objective of this research is to develop a durable concrete by investigating the resistance of various corrosion protection systems utilizing different water/cement ratio, silica fumes, corrosion inhibitors, etc. A two-year verification test on various corrosion protection system has been doing in the laboratory. Corrosion investigations on reinforcement steel are now under progress for more than 63 concrete specimen. Corrosion-related measurements include microcell corrosion current.

  • The primary purpose of this investigation is to find out the shear behavior and the shear capacity of RC bare frames, brick-infilled RC frames, and damper-retrofitted RC frames and to evaluate the average shear strength of brick--infill wall. The main variables art the absence of brick infill wall and steel plate slit damper. The test results show that the shear capacity of specimen IF-DR is 2.8 times as high as that of the specimen BF and it presents the fact that the retrofitting effect and the possibility of RC frame reuse with changing the slit damper is verified. And the average shear strength of the brick infill wall is figured to be at $5.0 kgf/cm^2$.

  • A new bridge system described in this paper uses concrete-filled steel tube (CFT) girders as a replacement for conventional girders. Experimental investigations were carried out to comprehend the flexural behavior of CFT girder-slab deck composite section. The experimental investigation consisted of designing and constructing a test specimen and loading it to collapse in bending to check the applicability of the system. The test results showed that concrete filled steel tube girders have good ductility and maintain its strength up to the end of the loading. In the test, the flexural behavior of each specimen of CFT girder-deck composite section is identified.

  • This research initially suggest flexural toughness density as a key parameter describing energy absorption capacity of High Performance Fiber Reinforced Cementitious Composites [HPFRCC] regardless of the size of specimen. Two types of high strength steel fibers, Hooked and Twisted fiber, were used in two types of flexural specimen ($100{\times}100{\times}350mm^3$ and $150{\times}150{\times}500mm^3$) to estimate and validate the flexural toughness density.

  • The purpose of the present study is to investigate the statistical characteristics of m and C in the fatigue crack propagation law, da/dN=C(.DELTA.K)/sup m/ and to studies on the randomness of fatigue crack propagation and retardation behavior. Fatigue tests were perfomed on 32 CT specimens of SPV50 steel under the same one condition. First, the value of m and C were determined for each specimen, and all the data were analyzed statistically. second, the material's resistance to fatigue crack propagation is modeled as a stchastic process, which varies randomly along the crack path. The statistical analysis of the material resistance is performed with the data obtained by constant load controlled tests. Finally, retardation behavior was examined experimentally by using a CT specimen, and a retardation parameters were analyzed statistically.
