Multi-Line System with the Switching Rules

  • The general description concerning the multi-line systems with the switching rules have been presented by Ahn. In this paper we derive some steady state probabilities for three mainly different kinds of systems. We assume that all of the systems are to have poisson input with the finite mean $1/\lambda$ and two servers with the negative exponentional service distribution where each has its own mean $1/u_i$. The notations follow the paper (Ahn, 1979).

  • In this paper, a method was studied for applying a series resonant type fault current limiter that can be manufactured at low cost to the smart grid distribution system. First, the impact of the harmonic components of the short-circuit fault current injected into the series resonance circuit of the fault current limiter on the peak value of the transient response was analyzed, and a methodology for determining the steady-state response was studied using percent impedance-based fault current computation method. Next, the effectiveness of the method was verified by applying it to a test distribution line. The test distribution system using the designed current limiter was modeled using EMTP_RV, and a three-phase short-circuit fault was simulated. In the fault simulation results, it was confirmed that the steady-state response of the fault current accurately followed the design target value after applying the fault current limiter. In addition, by comparing the fault current waveform before and after applying the fault current limiter, it was confirmed that the fault current was greatly suppressed, confirming the effect of applying the series resonance type current limiter to the distribution system.

Analysis on How to Locate the Maximum Line Voltage to Hull in Steady State on the Vector Diagram Onboard Vessels

  • Power distribution onboard vessel is typically configured as ungrounded system due to the ability to continuously supply electric power even when an earth fault occurs. The impedance connections between 3 phase power lines and hull cause the line-to-hull voltages to become unstable and increased in case the impedances are unbalanced, bringing the situation susceptible to electric shock and deterioration of insulation material. Also the line-to-hull voltage can reach to a certain maximum value in the steady state depending on the distributed capacitances and grounding resistances between lines and hull. This study suggests how to find and calculate the maximum line-to-hull voltage in view of magnitude and phase angle based on the vector diagram.

  • The subchannel grade void distributions in the NUPEC (Nuclear Power Engineering Corporation) BFBT (BWR Full-Size Fine-Mesh Bundle Tests) facility were evaluated with the subchannel analysis code MATRA and the system code MARS. Fifteen test series from five different test bundles were selected for an analysis of the steady-state subchannel void distributions. Two transient cases, a turbine trip without a bypass as a typical power transient and a re-circulation pump trip as a flow transient, were also chosen for this analysis. It was found that the steady-state void distributions calculated by both the MATRA and MARS codes coincided well with the measured data in the range of thermodynamic qualities from 5% to 25%. The results of the transient calculations were also similar and were highly feasible. However, the computational aspects of the two codes were clearly different.

  • With rapid development of world economics, electricity demand in metropolitan area has been increased dramatically. HTS(High Temperature Superconducting) cable is one of most promising technology to solve the bottleneck of electric network. However, HTS cable is not considered as matured technology yet to power system planners because of its different characteristics with conventional metal conductors. This paper suggests the comparison results of HTS cable simulation and experiment on steady state operation, also give the simulation results on transient characteristics of HTS cable components. This results could devote not only to discuss the security of HTS cable operation, but also to design power system oriented HTS cable.

  • An Eulerian finite element method for the analysis of steady state rolling/extrusion of sintered powder metals is presented. Initial guess of the porosity distribution in an Eulerian mesh is obtained from the velocity and scaled pressure field computed by the Consistent Penalty finite element formulations-the standard one and the consistent penalty type one-are invoked for the analysis of strain hardening, dilatant viscoplastic deformation of porous metals. Comparisons of the predicted distributions of porosity to those by a Lagrangian finite element method and by experiments reported in the articles prove the effectiveness and validity of the proposed method.

  • This paper proposes a calculation of compensation current using phase shift to eliminate ripple components of instantaneous active power under unbalanced or non-linear loads condition. The proposed phase shift method instead of existing method(LPF; Low Pass Filter) to remove ripple components and this proposed method improves performances of transient and steady state response. To compare proposed method with existing method, experiments have been done for calculating an average active power at load side. Their results show that transient response and steady state response of proposed method is improved.

  • In this study, micro square heaters having dimensions of $65{\times}65{\mu}m^2$and $100{\times}100{\mu}m^2$ were fabricated and bubble nucleation experiments on the heaters were performed. Bubble nucleation temperature was also measured using a bridge circuit and the photographs of bubble nucleation and subsequent growth were taken by a camera with a flash unit. Measured bubble nucleation temperatures were found to be closer to the superheat limit of working fluid (FC-72). Also quasi-1D analyses for the square heaters were performed. The quasi-1D analysis yielded proper temperature distribution of the square heater at steady state, however failed to predict the temperature rise up to the steady state. Similar time dependent temperature can be obtained with proper value of thermal diffusivity. For the $100{\times}100{\mu}m^2$ square heater, nucleation of several bubbles was observed while only one bubble was observed to be nucleated on $65{\times}65{\mu}m^2$ heater.
