Recently, the protection coordination method of DC systems has been presented because renewable energy and distributed resources are being installed and operated in distribution systems. On the other hand, it is difficult to detect ground faults because there is no significant difference compared to a steady-state current in ungrounded IT systems, such as DC load networks and urban railways. Therefore, this paper formulates the detection principle of IMD (Insulation Monitoring Device) to use it as a protection coordination device in a DC system. Based on the signal injection method of IMD, which is analyzed by a wavelet transform, this paper presents an algorithm of detecting ground faults in a DC system in a fast and accurate manner. In addition, this paper modeled an IMD and an ungrounded DC system using the PSCAD/EMTDC S/W and performed numerical analysis of a wavelet transform with the Matlab S/W. The simulation results of a ground fault case in an ungrounded DC system showed that the proposed algorithm and modeling are useful and practical tools for detecting a ground fault in a DC system.
Most fire victims succumb to smoke inhalation, and fire smoke toxicity from interior materials is increasing with increased use of plastics. Large amounts of hazardous effects of smoke are related to deposition of smoke particles in respiratory tracts, and deposition characteristics are influenced by size distribution of particles. Thus, it is essential to know the size distribution of smoke particles from plastics for hazard analysis of fire smoke. In a recent study, it has been shown that size distributions of smoke particles from PP are different from wood in many aspects. In order to know whether other plastics show the same characteristics as PP, size distributions of smoke particles from four plastic materials (LDPE, PA66, PMMA, and PVC) were measured in real time under each fire type with various temperature and oxygen supply. In this study, smoke particles from different plastics were generated uniformly by using steady-state tube furnace method provided in ISO/TS 19700. Their size distributions were measured by using an electrical low pressure impactor (ELPI). Results of measurements showed that size distributions of smoke particles from these four plastic materials were similar to those from PP in many aspects. However, they were distinctively different from those of wood.
This study is to investigate the recurrence characteristics of wet and dry years using over 200 year records of annual rainfall depth including Chosun Age in Korea. As well as analyzing the correlation structure of the raw data, recurrence trends of wet and dry year has been investigated based on several truncation levels (mean, $mean{\pm}0.25stdv.,\;mean{\pm}O.5stdv.,\;mean{\pm}O.75stdv.,\;mean{\pm}stdv.$). Also the transition probability among wet, dry and normal years has been derived for the same truncation levels. and finally the average return periods based on the steady-state probabilities were obtained. This analysis has been applied to not only the entire data but also partial data set of before- and after-the long dry period around 1900 in order to compare and detect the possible difference between the Chukwooki (an old raingauge invented in Chosun age) and the modem flip-bucket style. As a result, Similar pattern of dry and wet year recurrence has been found, but the return period of extremely dry years after the dry period shown longer than that before the dry period. Assuming that the dry and wet years can be defined as $mean{\pm}$ standard deviations, respectively, the return period of the wet years is shown to be about 5~6 years and that of the dry years about 6~7 years.
A rapid and sensitive reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method was developed for the determination of N-(-4-Chlorophenyl)-6-hydroxy-7-methoxy-2-chromanecarboxamide (KAL-1120), a novel anti-inflammation agent, in the rat plasma. The method was applied to analyze the compound in the biological fluids such as bile, urine and tissue homogenates. After liquid-liquid extraction, the compound was analyzed on an HPLC system with ultraviolet detection at 275 nm. HPLC was carried out using reversed-phase isocratic elution with a $C_{18}$ column, a mobile phase of a mixture of acetonitril (40 v/v%) at a flow rate of 1.0 mL/min. The chromatograms showed good resolution and sensitivity and no interference of plasma. The calibration curve for the drug in plasma was linear over the concentration range of 0.05-50 ${\mu}g$/mL. The intra- and inter-day assay accuracies of this method ranged from 0.06% to 9.33% of normal values and the precision did not exceed 6.28% of relative standard deviation. The plasma concentration of KAL-1120 decreased to below the quantifiable limit at 1.5 hr after the i.v. bolus administration of 2-10 mg/kg to rats ($t_{1/2,({\alpha})}$ and $t_{1/2,({\beta})$ of 2.15 and 26.7 min at a dose of 2 mg/kg, 3.91 and 33.0 min at a dose of 10 mg/kg, respectively). The steady-state volume of distribution ($V_{dss}$) and the total body clearance ($CL_t$) were not significantly altered in rats given doses from 2 to 10 mg/kg. Of the various tissues tested, KAL-1120 was mainly distributed in the lung and heart after i.v. bolus administration. KAL-1120 was detected in the bile by 30 min after its i.v. bolus administration. However, the concentration in the urine after i.v. bolus administration became too low to measure, suggesting that KAL-1120 is mostly excreted in the bile. In conclusion, this analytical method was suitable for the preclinical pharmacokinetic studies of KAL-1120 in rats.
Euclidean distance (ED) between error distribution and Dirac delta function has been used as an efficient performance criterion in impulsive noise environmentsdue to the outlier-cutting effect of Gaussian kernel for error signal. The gradient of ED for its minimization has two components; $A_k$ for kernel function of error pairs and the other $B_k$ for kernel function of errors. In this paper, it is analyzed that the first component is to govern gathering close together error samples, and the other one $B_k$ is to conduct error-sample concentration on zero. Based upon this analysis, it is proposed to normalize $A_k$ and $B_k$ with power of inputs which are modified by kernelled error pairs or errors for the purpose of reinforcing their roles of narrowing error-gap and drawing error samples to zero. Through comparison of fluctuation of steady state MSE and value of minimum MSE in the results of simulation of multipath equalization under impulsive noise, their roles and efficiency of the proposed normalization method are verified.

Using an isogeometric approach, a continuum-based shape design optimization method is developed for steady state power flow problems at high frequencies. In case the isogeometric method is employed to the shape design optimization, the NURBS basis functions used in CAD geometric modeling are directly utilized to embed the exact geometry into the computational framework so that the design parameterization for shape optimization is much easier than that in the finite element method and consequently provides the enhanced smoothness of design perturbations. Thus, exact geometric models can be used in both the response and the shape sensitivity analyses, where normal vector and curvature are continuous over the whole design space so that enhanced shape sensitivity can be expected. Through numerical examples, the developed isogeometric sensitivity is compared with finite difference one to provide excellent agreement. Also, it turns out that the proposed method works very well in the shape optimization problems.
Nowadays, the world has suffered by natural disaster of climate change due to global warming. Korea has also faced with similar situation. To prevent these natural disaster, Four Major River Management has conducted. One of conducted content in Four Major River Management is the levee maintenance which classified into fill-up the inland, levee of reinforcement and so on. These maintenances may make the characteristics of groundwater flow change and affect to the levee safety (piping phenomenon). Therefore, analysis on groundwater fluctuation according to level of riverside and inland should be required. This study focus on levee of Hoe stream, which is connected to Nakdong river, and piping safety factor in the levee analyzed by using pore water pressure. Besides, groundwater fluctuation, which is depended on level of riverside and inland, is simulated by using the SEEP/W (2D ground water model). This simulation considered steady flow and unsteady flow. As a result, piping safety factor increased due to rising the inland level. Piping safety factor of riverside was effected by only river water level. Therefore, external levee factor considering inland level raising and suitable control of river water level is need to increase piping safety factor.

Purpose: To analyze the feasibility of three-dimensional (3D) diffusion-weighted (DW) PSIF (reversed FISP [fast imaging with steady-state free precession]) sequence in order to evaluate peripheral nerves in the elbow. Materials and Methods: Ten normal, asymptomatic volunteers were enrolled (6 men, 4 women, mean age 27.9 years). The following sequences of magnetic resonance images (MRI) of the elbow were obtained using a 3.0-T machine: 3D DW PSIF, 3D T2 SPACE (sampling perfection with application optimized contrasts using different flip angle evolution) with SPAIR (spectral adiabatic inversion recovery) and 2D T2 TSE (turbo spin echo) with modified Dixon (m-Dixon) sequence. Two observers used a 5-point grading system to analyze the image quality of the ulnar, median, and radial nerves. The signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and contrast-to-noise ratio (CNR) of each nerve were measured. We compared 3D DW PSIF images with other sequences using the Wilcoxon-signed rank test and Friedman test. Inter-observer agreement was measured using intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) analysis. Results: The mean 5-point scores of radial, median, and ulnar nerves in 3D DW PSIF (3.9/4.2/4.5, respectively) were higher than those in 3D T2 SPACE SPAIR (1.9/2.8/2.8) and 2D T2 TSE m-Dixon (1.7/2.8/2.9) sequences (P < 0.05). The mean SNR in 3D DW PSIF was lower than 3D T2 SPACE SPAIR, but there was no difference between 3D DW PSIF and 2D T2 TSE m-Dixon in all of the three nerves. The mean CNR in 3D DW PSIF was lower than 3D T2 SPACE SPAIR and 2D T2 TSE m-Dixon in the median and ulnar nerves, but no difference among the three sequences in the radial nerve. Conclusion: The three-dimensional DW PSIF sequence may be feasible to evaluate the peripheral nerves around the elbow in MR imaging. However, further optimization of the image quality (SNR, CNR) is required.

The calculation of steady-state cavitating flows around Supercavitating Underwater Bodies (SUB's), which consist of a circular disk head (cavitator), a conical fore-body, a cylindrical middle-body and either a boat-tail or a flare-tail, are carried out. To calculate the axisymmetric cavitating flow, used is a commercial computational fluid dynamics code based on the finite volume method, Fluent. From the analysis of numerical results, the cavity and drag, affected by the fore-body and tail of the SUB's, are investigated. Firstly, the effect of the fore-body shape is investigated with the same disk cavitator and a cylindrical rear-body of fixed diameter. Then with the same cavitator and a fixed fore-body, the effect of the rear-body shape is investigated. Before the cavity generated by the cavitator covers the slant of fore-bodies sufficiently, the larger the cone angle of the fore-body(i.e., the shorter the slant length), the larger the drag and the slower the development of cavity. After the cavity covers the fore-body completely so that the pressure drag component of the body is vanished, the characteristics of drag-velocity curves are identical. Also, as the tail angle is bigger, the cavity generated by the cavitator is suppressed further and the drag becomes larger. The peak of the drag appears for the flare-tail, i.e., when the tail angle is positive(+). On the contrary, the trough of the drag appears for the boat-tail, i.e., when the tail angle is negative(-). When the tail angle is 5 degrees, the peak of the drag appears at the body speed of 80m/s and the value of the drag is 43% larger than that at the design speed of 100m/s. When the tail angle is -5 degrees, the trough of the total drag appears at 75m/s and that drag is 30% smaller than that of the cavitator, which means the rest of the body has a negative drag.
This paper examines the redistributive potential of capital taxations within the two-class overlapping generations model, where only capitalists are intergenerationally linked through heritable capital stocks. In particular, the dynamic welfare incidence of two different capital taxations is examined; first a capital income tax levied uniformly on interest earnings, and second, an estate tax levied on the intergenerational transfers of capital stock within the capitalists' families. Redistributive effects are measured by examining how the permanent and unanticipated changes in proportional capital income tax and estate tax rates affect workers' welfare when the proceeds in each period are distributed, in a lump-sum fashion, among young workers. It is shown that, except for in the short run, both the capital taxes are ineffective and may actually lower the workers' steady state welfare through the shifting of tax burden toward workers from capitalists. Differential incidence analysis shows that redistributive potential is diminished further when the lump-sum transfers are financed by the estate tax rather than by the capital income tax. Although the model examined in this paper is based on simple and strong assumptions, this study suggests that redistributive policy using the capital taxations may only have distortionary effects in the long run, without improving workers' welfare, by incurring dead-weight loss unless additional fiscal measures are implemented to increase the investment incentives.
