  • Individual effect of genes controlling quantitative traits can not ordinarily be distinguised from one another. Consequently, it is not possible to determine the mode of inheritance for single genes. By studying their combined effectsin segregating generations, however, one can gain some insight into their behavior and can make statistical inferences about their average gene action. The investigation reported herein was to extend genetic variance components and variance and covariance analyses, special attention was given to the genetic statistics from which least square estimators of genetic parameters are obtained.

  • This paper deals with the asymptotic properties for statistical inferences of the parameters in nonlinear regression models. As an optimal criterion for robust estimators of the regression parameters, the regression quantile method is proposed. This paper defines the regression quintile estimators in the nonlinear models and provides simple and practical sufficient conditions for the asymptotic normality of the proposed estimators when the parameter space is compact. The efficiency of the proposed estimator is especially well compared with least squares estimator, least absolute deviation estimator under asymmetric error distribution.

  • A measuring instrument must be calibrated for accurate inferences of an unknown quantity. Bayesian calibration designs with respect to squared error loss based on a linear model are discussed in Kim and Barlow (1992). In this paper, we consider approximations of the optimal calibration designs using the idea of Gaussian inflence diagrams. The approximation is evaluated by means of numerical calculations, where it is compared with the exact values from the numerical integration.

  • In this paper, we examine the problem of estimating the sensitive characteristics and behaviors in a multinomial randomized response model using Bayesian approach. We derived a posterior distribution for parameter of interest for multinomial randomized response model. Based on the posterior distribution, we also calculated a credible intervals and mean squared error (MSE). We finally compare the maximum likelihood estimator and the Bayes estimator in terms of MSE.

  • Those who are interested in making inferences concerning linear combination of valiance components in a simple linear regression model with unbalanced nested error structure can use the confidence intervals proposed in this paper. Two approximate confidence intervals for the sum of two variance components in the model are proposed. Simulation study is peformed to compare the methods. The methods are applied to a numerical example and recommendations are given for choosing a proper interval.

  • Classification of subjects with unknown distribution in small sample size setup may involve order-restricted constraints in multivariate parameter setups. Those problems makes optimality of conventional likelihood ratio based statistical inferences not feasible. Fortunately, Roy (1953) introduced union-intersection principle(UIP) which provides an alternative avenue. Redescending M-estimator along with that principle yields a considerably appropriate robust testing procedure. Furthermore, conditionally distribution-free test based upon exact permutation theory is used to generate p-values, even in small sample. Applications of this method are illustrated in simulated data and read data example (Lobenhofer et al., 2002)

  • This paper obtained Bayes prediction density for the spatial linear model with non-informative prior. It showed the results that predictive inferences is completely unaffected by departures from the normality assumption in the direction of the elliptical family and the structure of prediction density is unchanged by more than one additional future observations.

  • In applications using a linear regression model with nested error structure, one might be interested in making inferences concerning variance components. This article proposes approximate confidence intervals on the variance component of the primary level in a simple linear regression model with an unbalanced nested error structure. The intervals are compared using computer simulation and recommendations are provided for selecting an appropriate interval.

  • The present study surveys Bayesian modeling structure for inferences about transition probabilities of Markov chain. The motivation of the study came from the data that shows transitional behaviors of emotionally disturbed children undergoing residential treatment program. Dirichlet distribution was used as prior for the multinomial distribution. The analysis with real data was implemented in WinBUGS programming environment. The performance of the model was compared to that of alternative approaches.
