Personnel engaged in the medical field have implemented continual improvement by team activities in an effort to construct a system that reduces the risks involved in medical care. Knowledge in total quality management (TQM), especially statistical quality control (SQC) developed for industry, seems to be applicable to medical care. This paper describes the application of SQC to continual improvement in medical care.

Many procedures for deriving the Moore-Penrose invese $X^+$ have been developed, but the explicit forms of Moore-Penerose inverses for design matrices in analysis of variance models are not known heretofore. The purpose of this paper is to find explicit forms of $X^+$ for the one-way and the two-way analysis of variance models. Consequently, the Moore-Penerose inverse $X^+$ and the shortest solutions of them can be easily obtained to the level of pocket calculator by way of our results.

In the problem of estimating the error variance in the balanced fixed- effects one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) model, Ghosh (1994) proposed hierarchical Bayes estimators and raised a conjecture for which all of his hierarchical Bayes estimators are admissible. In this paper we prove this conjecture is true by representing one-way ANOVA model to the distributional form of a multiparameter exponential family.

The present study surveys Bayesian modeling structure for inferences about transition probabilities of Markov chain. The motivation of the study came from the data that shows transitional behaviors of emotionally disturbed children undergoing residential treatment program. Dirichlet distribution was used as prior for the multinomial distribution. The analysis with real data was implemented in WinBUGS programming environment. The performance of the model was compared to that of alternative approaches.

We consider support vector machines(SVM) to predict Y with p numerical variables $X_1$, ${\ldots}$, $X_p$. This paper aims to build a biplot of p explanatory variables, in which the first dimension indicates the direction of SVM classification and/or regression fits. We use the geometric scheme of kernel principal component analysis adapted to map n observations on the two-dimensional projection plane of which one axis is determined by a SVM model a priori.

RAN-aCGH is an R GUI tool for the analysis and visualization of array comparative genomic hybridization (array-CGH) experiments. The tool consists of data-loading, preprocessing for missing data, several methods for statistical identification of DNA copy number aberration, and visualization of the copy number change. RAN-aCGH requires a single input format, provides various visualizations, and allows the addition of a new statistical method, all in a user-friendly graphic user interface (GUI).

Vibrational characteristics of coupled beam ＆ plate system are considered on simple system, which consists of plates(2-subsystem) and beams(4-subsystem), using experimental statistical energy analysis(ESEA). First, damping and coupling loss factors of the system are determined by power injection method (PIM). Then, energy distribution of all the subsystem is estimated from the power balance equation. Finally, these quantities are compared with measured energy. The correlation of measured and estimated results for the sample problem is reasonably good.

Permutation test has been applied for the QTL(quantitative trait loci) analysis and we selected a major locus. K -means clustering analysis, for the major DNA Marker mining of ILSTS035 microsatellite loci in Hanwoo chromosome 6, has been described. Finally, bootstrap testing method has been adapted to calculate confidence intervals and for finding major DNA Markers.

This paper aimed at studying an efficient sampling design of the survey for non-consignment fishery products including both marine fisheries and seaculture. An analysis was done on the relationship between precision and sample size. On the basis of the analysis, the sample size was determined to be 1,080 fishery house holds with the expected precision of 4%-5%. The molluscs and seaculture were recognized to be correlated with the non-consignment products. An attempt was made to investigate the coverage of the fish kinds by the sample about 100 fish kinds were found in the 80 selected sample villages, whereas the population includes about 120 in total. This shows that the sample represents the population with satisfaction.

The accelerated failure time model or accelerated life model relates the logarithm of the failure time linearly to the covariates. The parameters in the model provides a direct interpretation. In this paper, we review some newly developed practically useful estimation and inference methods for the model in the analysis of right censored data.
