  • This study evaluated applicability and confidence of probability rainfalls estimated by the non-stationary rainfall frequency analysis which was recently developed. Using rainfall data at 4 sites which have an obvious increasing trend in observations, we estimated 3 type probability rainfalls; probability rainfalls from stationary rainfall frequency analysis using data from 1973-1997, probability rainfalls from stationary rainfall frequency analysis using data from 1973-2006, probability rainfalls from non-stationary rainfall frequency analysis assuming that the current year is 1997 and the target year is 2006. Based on the comparison of residuals from 3 probability rainfalls, the non-stationary rainfall frequency analysis provided more effective and well-directed estimates of probability rainfalls in the target year. Using Bootstrap resampling, this study also evaluated the parameter estimation methods for the non-stationary rainfall frequency analysis based on confidence intervals. The confidence interval length estimated by the maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) is narrower than the probability weighted moments (PWM). The results indicated that MLE provides more proper confidence than PWM for non-stationary probability rainfalls.

  • This paper is about the compensation of phase angle error and amplitude difference in stationary 2 pole coordinates by the installation variation of sensor at low cost high resolution digital hybrid encoder. To solve the problem of amplitude difference at the existing hybrid encoder, we normalized the relative magnitude of the two analog signals. and also to solve the problem of installation variation when installed the sensor, we rotate the stationary 2 pole coordinates to compensate the location error of sensor. and we used and tested the QEP function and A/D port in DSP(TMS320F2812) to verify the mentioned proposed method.

  • The objective of this study was to estimate the emission characteristics for PM, $PM_{10}$, and $PM_{2.5}$ in the various stationary sources. The particulate matters collected in the various stationary sources such as power plants (Coal and B-C oil), incinerators(municipal and industrial waste), and glass furnaces. The PM and $PM_{10}$, PM and $PM_{2.5}$, $PM_{10}$ and $PM_{2.5}$ samples were collected using the cyclone type $PM_{10}$, $PM_{2.5}$ samplers and 30 species(19 inorganic species, 9 ionic species, OC and EC) were analyzed by ICP, IC, and TOR/IMPROVE methods. The mass concentrations of PM, $PM_{10}$, $PM_{2.5}$ from nine stationary sources ranged $0.63{\sim}9.58mg/Sm^3$, $0.26{\sim}7.47mg/Sm^3$ and $0.13{\sim}6.34mg/Sm^3$, respectively. The level of $PM_{10}$, $PM_{2.5}$ portion in PM calculated 0.63~0.99, 0.38~0.94, respectively. In the case of emission trend for species, power plant showed high concentrations for Al, Mg, Na, Si, V and $SO_4{^{2-}}$, respectively. Also, Ca, Fe, K, Si, $Cl^-$, and $K^+$ showed high in incinerator. In the case of glass furnace, Na, Pb, K, Si, $Na^+$ and $SO_4{^{2-}}$ represented high concentrations. Power plant showed higher EC/OC concentrations than other sampling sites. These results suggest the possible role for complement establishment process of emission inventory and emission management for PM.

  • Seven compounds were isolated from stationary cultured mycelia of Inonotus obliquus, of which several of them showed certain antitumor activities. Seven compounds were identified as lanosterol(1), inotodiol(2), trametenolic acid(3), 3β,22,25-trihydroxy-lanosta-8-ene(6), 3β,22-dihydroxy-lanosta-8,24-diene(A), 3β-hydroxy- lanosta-8,24-dien-21-al(B) and methyl trametenolate(C), respectively. The precursor compound of sclerotium obtained from shaking-cultured and stationary-cultured mycelia of Inonotus obliquus is lanosterol. Ergosterol and ergosterol peroxide were obtained by shaking-culture, and the substituted compounds of C-21 and C-22 of lanosterol were obtained by stationary culture.

  • In various applications of queueing systems, admission control is often employed. It is known that the threshold-type of admission control is optimal in many practical applications despite its simplicity. However, determining the optimal threshold value is hard in general, because analytical expressions for the stationary queue length distributions are not easily available in most queueing systems. In this paper, to quickly determine the optimal threshold value under threshold-type admission control, we develop a concurrent simulation technique, which can save large amount of CPU time required in simulation, compared to the standard simulation procedure.

  • Piston type wave makers or flap type wave makers are usually adopted as a wave maker which disturbing the fluid domain with sinusoidal motion. Recently hybrid wave maker which could be operated as not only piston type and/or flap type but also swing type wave maker have been devised by utilizing the link mechanism. The wave board of hybrid wave maker has been devised to be independently controlled by the horizontal actuators on upper and lower end of the wave board. The wave board could operate as a flap type wave board when the lower hinge is in a stationary condition and the upper hinge is operated with sinusoidal motion. On the contrary, the swing type wave board could be obtained by the lower hinge is activated and the upper hinge is in a stationary condition. When both end of the wave board is activated in a synchronized condition, the wave board motion become piston motion. In addition the hybrid wave maker could enhance the piston motion with flap motion or swing motion by selecting control parameters. Various wave board motion of hybrid wave maker and relevant wave form have measured on the wave board and departed location. It is appeared that the novel hybrid wave maker could be utilized for the improvement of wave qualities in experiments.

  • Ralstonia pseudosolanacearum, a plant pathogenic bacterium that can survive for a long time in soil and water, causes lethal wilt in the Solanaceae family. Sigma S is a part of the RNA polymerase complex, which regulates gene expression during bacterial stress response or stationary phase. In this study, we investigated the role of sigma S in R. pseudosolanacearum under stress conditions using a rpoS-defective mutant strain of R. pseudosolanacearum and its wild-type strain. The phenotypes of rpoS-defective mutant were complemented by introducing the original rpoS gene. There were no differences observed in bacterial growth rate and exopolysaccharide production between the wild-type strain and the rpoS mutant. However, the wild-type strain responded more sensitively to nutrient deficiency compared to the mutant strain. Under the nutrient deficiency, the rpoS mutant maintained a high bacterial viability for a longer period, while the viability of the wild-type strain declined rapidly. Furthermore, a significant difference in pH was observed between the culture supernatant of the wild-type strain and the mutant strain. The pH of the culture supernatant for the wild-type strain decreased rapidly during bacterial growth, leading to medium acidification. The rapid decline in the wild-type strain's viability may be associated with medium acidification and bacterial sensitivity to acidity during transition to the stationary phase. Interestingly, the rpoS mutant strain cannot utilize acetic acid, D-alanine, D-trehalose, and L-histidine. These results suggest that sigma S of R. pseudosolanacearum regulates the production or utilization of organic acids and controls cell death during stationary phase under nutrient deficiency.

  • A doubly tethered chiral stationary phase (CSP) based on (+)-(18-crown-6)-2,3,11,12-tetracarboxylic acid were applied to the liquid chromatographic resolution of racemic tocainide, an antiarrhythmic agent, and its analogues. The chiral recognition efficiency of the doubly tethered CSP for tocainide and its analogues was generally greater than that of the corresponding singly tethered CSP especially in terms of the resolution ($R_S$). The resolution of tocainide and its analogues on the doubly tethered CSP were dependent on the content and the type of the organic and acidic modifiers in aqueous mobile phase and the column temperature. Especially, the retention behaviors of analytes on the doubly tethered CSP with the variation of the content of organic modifier in aqueous mobile phase were opposite to those on the corresponding singly tethered CSP and these opposite retention behaviors were rationalized by the lipophilicity differences of the two CSPs.

  • In the present study, a flow analysis for estimating the wave loads acting on a stationary floating body inside a viscous numerical wave tank was performed using the commercial software FLUENT. The governing equations for the viscous and incompressible fluid motion were the continuity and Navier-Stokes equations, and a piston-type wavemaker was employed to reproduce wave environments. First, the optimal simulation conditions were derived through numerical tests for the wavemaker and wave absorber, and then the wave loads and wave run-up on a vertical truncated cylinder were estimated and compared with the experimental and other numerical results.

  • A doubly tethered chiral stationary phase (CSP) based on (+)-(18-crown-6)-2,3,11,12-tetracarboxylic acid was applied to the resolution of various aryl ${\alpha}$-aminoalkyl ketones with the use of 80% ethanol in water containing 10 mM sulfuric acid as a mobile phase. The chiral resolution was quite successful, the separation factors (${\alpha}$) and the resolutions ($R_S$) being in the range of 1.39-2.05 and 3.18-5.22, respectively. The separation factors (${\alpha}$) on the doubly tethered CSP were slightly worse than those on the corresponding singly tethered CSP. However, the resolutions ($R_S$) on the doubly tethered CSP were generally greater than those on the corresponding singly tethered CSP. The chromatographic behaviors for the resolution of aryl ${\alpha}$-aminoalkyl ketones on the doubly tethered CSP were demonstrated to be dependent on the type and the content of the organic and acidic modifiers in aqueous mobile phase and the column temperature.
