  • The modelling and design of the PCV(Pressure Control Valve) for passenger car CVT(Continuously Variable Transmission) are considered in this paper. For analysis and design, the simulation model of the PCV is derived by using commercial software, AMESim. For a good design of the PCV, the sensitivity analysis for design parameters is carried out and the static and dynamic characteristics of the developed PCV are experimented. The simulation and experimental results are presented to show the validity of the design process.

  • Characteristics of the stress on Continuous Welded Rail(CWR) were investigated to apply to design procedure for railway bridge design. Actions due to change in temperature, braking/traction and bending of the deck were considered in this interaction analysis between CWR and bridge deck. The bridge parameters such as static arrangement of the deck and support stiffness were taken into consideration to examine the influence of the parameters on the additional rail stress. The final results of this study, which include the displacement as well as the stress will be presented in the form of the design chart in future.

  • A safety assessment of reactor vessel lower head integrity under in-vessel vapor explosion loads has been performed. The core melt relocation parameters were chosen within the ranges of physically realizable bounds. The premixing and explosion calculations were performed using TRACER-II code. Using the calculated explosion pressures imposed on the lower head inner wall, strain calculations were peformed using ANSYS code. Then, the calculated strain results and the established failure criteria were used in determining the failure probability of the lower head, In the explosion analyses, it is shown that the explosion impulses are not altered significantly by the uncertain parameters of triggering location and time, fuel and vapor volume fractions in uniform premixture bounding calculations. Strain analyses show that the vapor explosion-induced lower head failure is not possible under the present framework of assessment. The result of static analysis using the conservative explosion-end pressure of 50 MPa also supports the conclusion. It is recommended, however, that an assessment of fracture mechanics for preexisting cracks be also considered to obtain a more concrete conclusion.

  • Having established the initial geometry and cable force of a typical three span suspension bridge under permanent load, the additional maximum response of the cable and the stiffening girder due to live load are determined, by means of an analytic procedure, considering the girder first hinged at its ends and then continuous through the main towers. The problem of interaction between the cable and the stiffening girder is examined taking under due consideration the second order effects, whereby, through the analogy to a fictitious tensioned beam under transverse load, a closed -form solution is achieved by means of a simple quadratic equation. It is found that the behavior of the whole system is governed by five simple dimensionless parameters which enable a quick determination of all the relevant design magnitudes of the bridge. Moreover, by introducing these parameters, a set of diagrams is presented, which enable the estimation of the influence of the geometric and loading data on the response and permit its immediate evaluation for preliminary design purposes.

  • The importance of dynamic stability of power system is increasing as the excitation system using static type are greatly enlarged. There are several types of PSS at Present, Elements of PSS consist of Notch filter, lead-lag filter, washout limiter which are variable. The existing power system has a difficulty in determining the optimal PSS parameters whenever PSS is installed. And it is recommended to retune PSS parameters periodically because system characteristics change due to aging. In this paper, intelligent PSS using fuzzy concept is introduced to get over difficulties mentioned above. The usefulness of fuzzy-type PSS was verified by applying FPSS to KEPCO power system. Generally, the voltage regulation deteriorates if conventional PSS is applied because supplementary signal is added into AVR summing point to damp Power oscillation. In this paper this problem is solved by AVR limiter and fuzzy members tuning.

  • According to the GM/RT2141, to assess the safety of vehicle, the validated the vehicle dynamic model should be applied. The validation of the vehicle model is against the static test, some kind of vehicle type test results have been used to determine the suspension characteristics and the vehicle dynamic characteristics. To validate the vehicle model and the test results, first the test results has been analysed as to specified the suspension characteristics and than the parameters to related with the test result has to be adjusted to show the same results of the test. In this process the parameters of vehicle model have been determined to show the coherence of the two results of the simulation and the test by trial & error. In this report, the optimization tool has been introduced in this model validation process and shows the efficient and well validated model.

  • Axial fans are very useful cooling devices being widely used in many electric and industrial machinery. However those are often accompanying annoying noise. Many efforts have been devoted in order to reduce the fan noise. In this study, the procedure was devided into two major parts in considering effects of design parameters of axial fan concerned with noise ; the fan theory and the Fukano's fan noise study. By using the fan theory we defined stagger angle, camber angle, blade inlet and outlet angle for studying low noise fan. Then the effects of such angles on the flow rate and static pressure were investigated. By using the Fukano's fan noise theory, the relations of the chord length, the rotational speed and the number of blades vs. fan noise are investigated.

  • This paper presents an approach to estimate the power transmission line parameter by phasor measurement units(PMUs), which are synchronized to 1 pps signal of GPS. Existing approaches to estimate power transmission line parameter, are mainly off-line ones, based on faults or switching events on other neighboring lines. In this paper, to obtain static and dynamic properties of power transmission line parameter in service, the prototype of pmu-based Transmission Line Parameter Monitoring System (TLPMS) is proposed. Also, an technique to estimate parameters of transmission line described as 2-port network model and the soundness of estimated parameters are addressed.

  • Derivation procedures of exact elastic element stiffness matrix of thin-walled curved beams are rigorously presented for the static analysis. An exact elastic element stiffness matrix is established from governing equations for a uniform curved beam element with nonsymmetric thin-walled cross section. First this numerical technique is accomplished via a generalized linear eigenvalue problem by introducing 14 displacement parameters and a system of linear algebraic equations with complex matrices. Thus, the displacement functions of displacement parameters are exactly derived and finally exact stiffness matrices are determined using member force-displacement relationships. The displacement and normal stress of the section are evaluated and compared with thin-walled straight and curved beam element or results of the analysis using shell elements for the thin-walled curved beam structure in order to demonstrate the validity of this study.

  • In parameter design, Taguchi's stated objective is to find the setting of product or process design parameters that minimize average quadratic loss-that is, the average squared deviation of the response from its target value. Yet in practice to choose the settings of design parameters he maximizeds a set of measures called signal-to-noise(SN) ratios. In general, Taguchi gave no justification for the use the SN ratios and no explanation of why the two-step procedure that he recommened will minimize average loss. The purpose of this study is comparing and analyzing of performance statistics by Leon et al(PerMIA), Box(Transformation theory), Vining & Myers(Dual Response Systems) and Taguchi(Signal-to-Noise ratios).
