  • Objectives: To challenge the problem of slipperiness, various slipmeters have been developed to assess slip hazard. The performance of in-situ slipmeter is, however, still unclear under the various floor conditions. The main objectives of this study were to evaluate the performance of three kinds of slipmeters under real conditions, and to find their dynamic and kinematic characteristics, which were compared with gait test results. Methods: Four common restaurant floor materials were tested under five contaminants. Slipmeters and human gaits were measured by high speed camera and force plate to find and compare their dynamic and kinematic characteristics. Results: The contact pressures and built-up ratio were below those of subjects. The sliding velocity of British Pendulum Tester was above those of subjects, while those of BOT-3000 and English XL were below those of subjects. From the three meters, the English XL showed the highest overall correlation coefficient (r = 0.964) between slip index and $R_a$, while the rest did not show statistical significance with surface roughness parameters ($R_a$, $R_z$). The English XL only showed statistical significance (p < 0.01) between slip index and contaminants. The static coefficient of friction obtained with the BOT-3000 showed good consistency and repeatability (CV < 0.1) as compared to the results for the BPT (CV > 0.2) and English XL (CV < 0.2). Conclusion: It is unclear whether surface roughness can be a reliable and objective indicator of the friction coefficient under real floor conditions, and the viscosity of contaminants can affect the friction coefficient of the same floors. Therefore, to evaluate slipperiness, the performance of the slipmeters needed to improve.

  • Objectives : The aim of this experiment is to find out relationship between the effect of cosmetics and 4 types of pattern identification about fluid-humor, which are based on the general idea of traditional oriental medicine, Qi-Blood and deficiency-excess. Methods : Korean female volunteers in good health (n=25, $23.12{\pm}2.83$) participated in this experiment. Three Korean medical doctors classified them into 4 groups: Blood-deficiency: group A; Blood-excess: group B; Qi-deficiency:group C; Qi-excess:group D). Cosmetics that contains herb extract for Blood deficiency were given to all volunteers and they used the cosmetics for 4 weeks. Volunteers were assessed non-invasively with the skin measuring devices before and after using cosmetics. And we analyzed the correlation of skin physiological parameters with 4 groups. Results : Three doctors diagnosed participants and classified them into 4 groups ; group A(n=8),group B(n=7), group C(n=3), group D(n=5) as highest score. After 4 weeks, facial skin moisture showed no significant difference in comparison between 4 groups. Sebum showed significant increase in Group A and significantly decreased Group B. Measurement of facial skin elasticity tended to increase in Group A, C, D but skin elasticity was decreased significantly in Group B. Conclusions : In case of a group that pattern identification about fluid-humor corresponds to herb extract in cosmetic, skin improving effect was better than the other group that pattern identification oppose to properties of herb in cosmetic. Therefore, from the view of traditional oriental medicine, it is very important to understand user's pattern of identification or physical conditions and properties of herbs in cosmetics on the matter of safety and efficacy.

  • The wetting balance test was performed in an attempt to estimate the wetting properties of the UBM-coated Si-wafer on one side to the Sn-Pb solder. The wetting curves of the one and both side-coated UBM layers had the similar shape and the parameters characterizing the curve shape showed the similar transition tendency to the temperature. The wetting property estimation was possible with the new wettability indices from the wetting curves of one side-coated specimen; $F_{min}$, $F_{s}t_{s}$ and $t_s$. For UBM of Si-chip, Au/Cu/Cr UBM was better than Au/Ni/Ti in the point of wetting time. The contact angle of the one side coated Si-plate to the Sn-Pb solder could be calculated from the force balance equation by measuring the static state force and the tilt angle.

  • Nowadays, the utilization of multiprocessor environments has been increased due to the increase in time complexity of application programs and decrease in hardware costs. In such architectures during the compilation step, each program is decomposed into the smaller and maybe dependent segments so-called tasks. Precedence constraints, required execution times of the tasks, and communication costs among them are modeled using a directed acyclic graph (DAG) named task-graph. All the tasks in the task-graph must be assigned to a predefined number of processors in such a way that the precedence constraints are preserved, and the program's completion time is minimized, and this is an NP-hard problem from the time-complexity point of view. The results obtained by different approaches are dominated by two major factors; first, which order of tasks should be selected (sequence subproblem), and second, how the selected sequence should be assigned to the processors (assigning subproblem). In this paper, a hybrid proposed approach has been presented, in which two different artificial ant colonies cooperate to solve the multiprocessor task-scheduling problem; one colony to tackle the sequence subproblem, and another to cope with assigning subproblem. The utilization of background knowledge about the problem (different priority measurements of the tasks) has made the proposed approach very robust and efficient. 125 different task-graphs with various shape parameters such as size, communication-to-computation ratio and parallelism have been utilized for a comprehensive evaluation of the proposed approach, and the results show its superiority versus the other conventional methods from the performance point of view.

  • Based on the theory of piezoelasticity, the static performance of a piezoelectric bilayer cantilever fully covered with electrodes on the upper and lower surfaces is studied. Three models are considered, i.e., the sensor model, the driving displacement model and the blocking force model. By establishing suitable boundary conditions and proposing an appropriate Airy stress function, the exact solutions for piezoelectric bilayer cantilevers are obtained, and the effect of ambient thermal excitation is taken into account. Since the layer thicknesses and material parameters are distinguished in different layers, this paper gives unified solutions for composite piezoelectric bilayer cantilevers including piezoelectric bimorph and piezoelectric heterogeneous bimorph, etc. For some special cases, the simplifications of the present results are compared with other solutions given by other researches based on one-dimensional constitutive equations, and some amendments have been found. The present investigation shows: (1) for a PZT-4 piezoelectric bimorph, the amendments of tip deflections induced by an end shear force, an end moment or an external voltage are about 19.59%, 23.72% and 7.21%, respectively; (2) for a PZT-4-Al piezoelectric heterogeneous bimorph with constant layer thicknesses, the amendments of tip deflections induced by an end shear force, an end moment or an external voltage are 9.85%, 11.78% and 4.07%, respectively, and the amendments of the electrode charges induced by an end shear force or an end moment are both 1.04%; (3) for a PZT-4-Al piezoelectric heterogeneous bimorph with different layer thicknesses, the maximum amendment of tip deflection approaches 23.72%, and the maximum amendment of electrode charge approaches 31.09%. The present solutions can be used to optimize bilayer devices, and the Airy stress function can be used to study other piezoelectric cantilevers including multi-layered piezoelectric cantilevers under corresponding loads.

  • The heterogeneous association behaviour of various concentration binary mixtures of mono alkyl ethers of ethylene glycol with ethyl alcohol were investigated by dielectric measurement in benzene solutions over the entire concentration range at 25 ${^{\circ}C}$. The values of static dielectric constant $\epsilon_0$ of the mixtures were measured at 1 MHz using a four terminal dielectric liquid test fixture and precision LCR meter. The high frequency limiting dielectric constant $\epsilon_\infty$ values were determined by measurement of refractive index $n_D$ ($\epsilon_\infty\;=\;n_D\;^2$). The measured values of $\epsilon_0$ and $\epsilon_\infty$ were used to evaluate the values of excess dielectric constant $\epsilon^E$, effective Kirkwood correlation factor $g^{eff}$ and corrective correlation factor $g_f$ of the binary polar mixtures to obtain qualitative and quantitative information about the H-bond complex formation. The non-linear behaviour of the observed $\epsilon_0$ values of the polar molecules and their mixtures in benzene solvent confirms the variation in the associated structures with change in polar mixture constituents concentration and also by dilution in non-polar solvents. Appearance of the maximum in $\epsilon^E$ values at different concentration of the polar mixtures suggest the formation of stable adduct complex, which depends on the molecular size of the mono alkyl ethers of ethylene glycol. Further, the observed $\epsilon^E$ < 0 also confirms the heterogeneous H-bond complex formation reduces the effective number of dipoles in these polar binary mixtures. In benzene solutions these polar molecules shows the maximum reduce in effective number of dipoles at 50 percent dilutions. But ethyl alcohol rich binary polar mixtures in benzene solvent show the maximum reduce in effective number of dipoles in benzene rich solutions.

  • This study was conducted to investigate whether mat exercise and field exercise have effectiveness on the balance and gait in older adults. Thirty subjects were participated in this study. And they were all randomly divided into mat exercise and field exercise group. To evaluate the effects of mat and field exercise, subjects were evaluated by using One Leg Stand test which was static balance test, and Berg Balance test which was dynamic balance test. Finally Gait pattern was assessed by using 3-dimensional gait analysis system. The assessment parameters were evaluated before, after 3 weeks, and after 6 weeks treatments. And we received a consent form from all subjects. The results of repeated measures analysis of variance showed that One Leg Stand, Berg Balance, Stride length, Cadence, Velocity were significantly increased after than before exercise in both groups. So we conclude that therapeutic exercise that is mat and field exercise has effectiveness on the balance and gait in older adults.

  • It is important to develop new effective technologies to increase the interruption capacity and to reduce the size of a UB(Gas Circuit Breakers). Major design parameters such as nozzle geometries and interrupting chamber dimensions affect the cooling of the arc and the breaking performance. But it is not easy to test real GCB model in practice as in theory. Therefore, a simulation tool based on a computational fluid dynamics(CFD) algorithm has been developed to facilitate an optimization of the interrupter. Special attention has been paid to the supersonic flow phenomena between contacts and the observation of hat-gas flow for estimating the breaking performance. However, there are many difficult problems in calculating the flow characteristics in a GCB such as shock wave and complex geometries, which may be either static or in relative motion. Although a number of mesh generation techniques are now available, the generation of meshes around complicated, multi-component geometries like a GCB is still a tedious and difficult task for the computational fluid dynamics. This paper presents the CFD program using CFB-CAD integration technique based on Cartesian cut-cell method, which could reduce researcher's efforts to generate the mesh and achieve the accurate representation of the geometry designed by a CAD tools.

  • Concrete structures exposed to fire produce changes in their internal structure, resulting in their service life reduction due to the deterioration of its strength and performance capacity. The deterioration level are dependent on the temperature, exposure time, concrete mix proportions, aggregate property, and material properties. This study was performed to evaluate the thermal behavior of ultra-high strength concrete for the parameters of water to cement ratio (compressive strength), fine to total aggregate ratio, and maximum coarse aggregate size. At room temperature and $500^{\circ}C$, tests of ultrasonic pulse velocity, resonance frequency, static modulus of elasticity, and compressive strength are performed using ${\varnothing}100{\times}200\;mm$ cylindrical concrete specimens. The results showed that the residual mechanical properties of ultra-high strength concrete heated to $500^{\circ}C$ is influenced by variation of a water to binder ratio, fine to total aggregate ratio, and maximum coarse aggregate size.

  • This paper proposes a controller design method using the evolutionary computation algorithm and the fuzzy logic to control the wafer temperature in rapid thermal processing. First, we design the feedforward static controller to provide the control powers of the lamps for the given steady state temperature. Second, the feedforward dynamic controller is designed for the additional control powers to achieve a given transient response. These feedforward controllers are implemented by using the fuzzy logic to act as a global nonlinear controller over a wide range of operating points. The parameters of these controllers are optimized by using the evolutionary computation algorithm so that it can be used when the mathematical model is not available. In addition, the feedback error controller is introduced to compensate the feedforward controllers when there exist disturbances and modeling errors. The gain of feedback error controller is also obtained by the evolutionary computation algorithm. Through simulations, we verify the proposed control system can give a satisfactory performance.
