Assessment of p-y Behaviors of a Cyclic Laterally Loaded Pile in Saturated Dense Silty Sand (조밀한 포화 실트질 모래지반에서 횡방향 반복하중을 받는 말뚝의 p-y 거동 평가)

  • Piles that support offshore wind turbine structures are dominantly subjected to cyclic lateral loads of wind, waves, and tidal forces. For a successful design, it is imperative to investigate the behavior of the cyclic laterally loaded piles; the p-y curve method, in which the pile and soil are characterized as an elastic beam and nonlinear springs, respectively, has been typically utilized. In this study, model pile tests were performed in a 1 g gravitational field so as to investigate the p-y behaviors of cyclic laterally loaded piles installed in saturated dense silty sand. Test results showed that cyclic lateral loads gradually reduced the overall stiffness of the p-y curves (initial stiffness and ultimate soil reaction). This is because the cyclic lateral loads disturbed the surrounding soil, which led to the decrement of the soil resistance. The decrement effects of the overall stiffness of the p-y curves became more apparent as the magnitude of cyclic lateral load increased and approached the soil surface. From the test results, the cyclic p-y curve was developed using a p-y backbone curve method. Pseudo-static analysis was also performed with the developed cyclic p-y curve, confirming that it was able to properly predict the behaviors of cyclic laterally loaded pile installed in saturated dense silty sand.

Wave Control by Bottom-Mounted and Fluid-Filled Flexible Membrane Structure (유체가 채워진 착저신 유연막 구조물에 의한 파랑제어)

  • In this paper, the interaction of oblique incident waves with a bottom-mounted and fluid-filled flexible membrane structure is investigated in the frame of linear hydro-elastic theory. The static shape of a membrane structure containing the fluid of a specific density is initially unknown and must be calculated before the hydrodynamic analysis. To solve hydrodynamic problem, the fluid domain is divided into the inner and outer region. The inner solution based on discrete membrane dynamic model and simple-source distribution over the entire fluid boundaries is matched to the outer solution ba~ed on an eigenfunction expansion method. The numerical results were compared to a series of Ohyama's experimental results. The measured reflection and tran¬smission coefficients reasonably follow the trend of predicted values. Using the computer program developed, the performance of a bottom-mounted and fluid-filled flexible membrane strocture is tested with various system parameters (membrane shape, internal pressure, density ratio) and wave characteristics (wave frequencies, incident wave angle). It is found that a bottom-mounted and fluid-filled flexible membrane structure can be an effel;tive wave barrier if properly designed.

  • The basic assumption of conventional data mining methodology is that the data set of a knowledge discovery process should be fixed and available before the process can proceed. Consequently, this assumption is valid only when the static knowledge embedded in a specific data set is the target of data mining. In addition, a conventional data mining method requires considerable computing time to produce the result of mining from a large data set. Due to these reasons, it is almost impossible to apply the mining method to a realtime analysis task in a data stream where a new transaction is continuously generated and the up-to-dated result of data mining including the newly generated transaction is needed as quickly as possible. In this paper, a new mining concept, open data mining in a data stream, is proposed for this purpose. In open data mining, whenever each transaction is newly generated, the updated mining result of whole transactions including the newly generated transactions is obtained instantly. In order to implement this mechanism efficiently, it is necessary to incorporate the delayed-insertion of newly identified information in recent transactions as well as the pruning of insignificant information in the mining result of past transactions. The proposed algorithm is analyzed through a series of experiments in order to identify the various characteristics of the proposed algorithm.

  • This paper presents a methodology to extract classes and inheritance relations from procedural software. The methodology is based on the idea of generating all groups of class candidates, based on the combinatorial groups of object candidates, and their inheritance with all possible combinations and selecting a group of object candidates, and their inheritance with all possible combinations and selecting a group with the best or optimal combination of candidates with respect to the degree of relativity and similarity between class candidates in the group and classes in a domain model. The methodology has innovative features in class candidates in the group and classes in a domain model. The methodology has innovative features in class and inheritance extraction: a clustering method based on both static (attribute) and dynamic (method) clustering, the combinatorial cases of grouping class candidate cases based on abstraction, a signature similarity measurement for inheritance relations among n class candidates or m classes, two-dimensional similarity measurement for inheritance relations among n class candidates or m classes, two-dimensional similarity measurement, that is, the horizontal measurement for overall group similarity between n class candidates and m classes, and the vertical measurement for specific similarity between a set of classes in a group of class candidates and a set of classes with the same class hierarchy in a domain model, etc. This methodology provides reengineering experts with a comprehensive and integrated environment to select the best or optimal group of class candidates.

Performance Evaluation of IGCC Plants with Variation in Coal Rank and Coal Feeding System (탄종 및 석탄공급방식 변화에 따른 석탄가스화 복합발전 플랜트의 성능 평가)

  • As a way to evaluate the performance of IGCC (Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle) processes, heating values of coal gas as well as plant efficiency were compared for different rank coals and coal feeding methods by employing the static process simulation technique. Performance of the process was compared with coal rank that was varied by three assorted bituminous coals and also by three subbituminous coals, in addition to the two types of feeding techniques, i.e., dry-feeding and slurry-feeding, that are utilized in entrained-bed coal gasifiers. For the verification of the simulation technique, simulated results were compared first with the actual pilot plant data published from Shell and Texaco. The simulation technique was, then, applied to other coals. Result from tests varying coal rank exhibits the trend of improving both heating content of the product gas and plant efficiency with increasing carbon content in coal. The effect of coal rank is more sensitive in slurry-feeding cases compared to the dry-feeding cases. In particular, considering notably lower values in gas heating value and plant efficiency calculated in the slurry-feeding case that uses a subbituminous coal, limited utilization of the slurry-feeding method for subbituminous coals can be expected. From the plant efficiency point of view, dry-feeding method resulted in higher simulated efficiency values by maximum 3% for subbituminous coals and ca. l% for bituminous coals.

  • The neural decoding is a procedure that uses spike trains fired by neurons to estimate features of original stimulus. This is a fundamental step for understanding how neurons talk each other and, ultimately, how brains manage information. In this paper, the strategies of neural decoding are classified into three methodologies: rate decoding, temporal decoding, and population decoding, which are explained. Rate decoding is the firstly used and simplest decoding method in which the stimulus is reconstructed from the numbers of the spike at given time (e. g. spike rates). Since spike number is a discrete number, the spike rate itself is often not continuous and quantized, therefore if the stimulus is not static and simple, rate decoding may not provide good estimation for stimulus. Temporal decoding is the decoding method in which stimulus is reconstructed from the timing information when the spike fires. It can be useful even for rapidly changing stimulus, and our sensory system is believed to have temporal rather than rate decoding strategy. Since the use of large numbers of neurons is one of the operating principles of most nervous systems, population decoding has advantages such as reduction of uncertainty due to neuronal variability and the ability to represent a stimulus attributes simultaneously. Here, in this paper, three different decoding methods are introduced, how the information theory can be used in the neural decoding area is also given, and at the last machinelearning based algorithms for neural decoding are introduced.

Study On Generating Compact Network RTK Corrections Considering Ambiguity Level Adjustment Among Reference Station Networks for Constructing Infrastructure of Land Vehicle (육상교통 인프라 구축을 위한 다중 네트워크 간 미지정수 수준 조정이 고려된 Compact Network PTK 보정정보 생성기법 연구)

  • Network RTK is widely used especially for static applications so far, however, the demand for high accuracy positioning for kinetic users such as land vehicles is growing for safety and convenience reasons. Kinematic users move along the roads and the network where they receive corrections can be changed. Compact Network RTK corrections should keep consistency while network change. In this paper, we introduced a method of generating Compact Network RTK corrections considering network ambiguity level adjustment by formulation of corrections. We verified the proposed method for reference station networks across whole country. We also generated Compact Network RTK corrections using simulation and real GPS data from reference stations in South Korea and evaluated performance of users. As a result, the discontinuity between corrections from two networks reduced to 0.25 cycle from several cycles. And user could achieve less than 8 cm (2DRMS) horizontal position accuracy continuously regardless of network change.

Correlation Analysis between Rut Resistance and Deformation Strength for Superpave Mixtures (수퍼페이브 혼합물의 소신변형저항성과 변형강도와의 상관성분석)

  • This study dealt with correlation analysis between deformation strength and rut resistance of asphalt concretes based on binder grade in Superpave specification with changing submerging time. Currently, Mashall mix design is known to have little correlation with rutting related performance. Therefore, some agencies started to use the Superpave method for asphalt mix design. But this method has a weak point in that it can not distinct mechanical property of the asphalt mixtures designed. For solution of these problem, this study used deformation strength, $S_D$, of Kim test which is a new approach under development for finding property which represents rut resistance characteristics of asphalt mixtures under static loading. This study used two aggregates from two regions and five PG asphalt binders. Final rut depth (DR) and dynamic stability (DS) from wheel tracking (WT) test were obtained. and $S_D$ value of the same mixture specimen which was made by gyratory compactor was obtained using loading head [4(1.0)]. Three submerging times 30min, 40min, 50min were used as a test variable at $60^{\circ}C$. Correlation analysis of DR and DS with $S_D$ were performed based on PG grade. It was found out that the $S_D$ has a high correlation with DR and DS of superpave mixtures. The highest $R^2$ was found from the $S_D$ values of 30min. submerged specimen.

Evaluation of Split Tension Fatigue Test Method for Application in Concrete (콘크리트의 쪼갬인장 피로실험방법 제안 및 적용성 평가)

  • Most of concrete fatigue tests currently used are flexural tension or compression methods to investigate the tensile or compressive properties, respectively. However, the concrete pavement or concrete slab is actually subjected to a combined stress condition such as biaxial or triaxial. The split tension test may result in similar stress condition to biaxial stress condition. The purposes of this study were to evaluate the split tension fatigue test method for application in concrete. These were done by a finite element analysis and experimental series. The results were as follows: The optimum configuration of split tension fatigue test was a cylinder of 15cm in diameter and 7.5cm in thickness, which had a little different thickness compared to the KS standard cylinder of ${\phi}15{\times}30cm$. The concrete stress ratio of compressive against horizontal from FEA was 3.1, while that from theory was 3.0. The stress distributions of mortar and steel were almost similar at different thicknesses. The measured static split tensile strengths of concrete and mortar were quite similar at 30cm and 7.5cm thickness cylinders. The measured stress-strain relationship showed their consistency at all specimens regardless of thickness, and confirmed the results from FEA. As a results, the concrete split tension specimen, cylinder of 15cm in diameter and 7.5cm in thickness, could be used at fatigue test because of its accuracy, simplicity and convenience.

Research on Application of Spatial Statistics for Exploring Spatio-Temporal Changes in Patterns of Commercial Landuse (상업적 토지이용 패턴의 시공간 변화 탐색을 위한 공간통계 기법 적용 연구)

  • Lots of geographic phenomena have dynamic spatial patterns with time changes, and there have been lots of researches on exploring these dynamic spatial patterns. However, most of these researches focused on the static pattern analysis in a given period, rather than dealing with dynamic changes in the spatial pattern over time with the continual or cumulative perspective. For this reason, investigation of the inertia of spatial process in terms of temporal changes is needed. From this background, the purpose of this paper is to propose the methodology to explore the changes in spatial pattern cumulatively by considering the inertia of the spatial statistics over time, and to apply it to the case study That is, we introduce the new spatial statistic, and produce the z-values of the statistic using Monte Carlo Simulation, and then to explore the changes in spatial patterns over time cumulatively. To do this, the method to combine the J statistic with CUSUM statistic for exploring spatial patterns, and to apply it to the changes in the commercial landuse in Erie County, New York State. Through the proposed method for spatio-temporal Patterns, we could explore continual changes effectively in the spatial patterns reflecting the statistics by temporal spot cumulatively.
