  • A shortest path dynamic programming formulation is proposed and attemped to solve an uncapacitated expansion sequencing problem. It is also compared with the Extended Binary State Space approach with total capacity. Difficulties and merits associated with the formulation are discussed. The shortest path dynamic programming lacks the separability condition and an optimal solution is not guaranteed. However it has other merits and seems to be the practical solution procedure for the expansion sequencing problem in a sense that it finds near optimal solution with less state evaluations.

  • A state space differential reproducing kernel (DRK) method is developed for the three-dimensional (3D) analysis of functionally graded material (FGM) axisymmetric circular plates with simply-supported and clamped edges. The strong formulation of this 3D elasticity axisymmetric problem is derived on the basis of the Reissner mixed variational theorem (RMVT), which consists of the Euler-Lagrange equations of this problem and its associated boundary conditions. The primary field variables are naturally independent of the circumferential coordinate, then interpolated in the radial coordinate using the early proposed DRK interpolation functions, and finally the state space equations of this problem are obtained, which represent a system of ordinary differential equations in the thickness coordinate. The state space DRK solutions can then be obtained by means of the transfer matrix method. The accuracy and convergence of this method are examined by comparing their solutions with the accurate ones available in the literature.

  • A robust H$_{\infty}$ control design methodology and its application to a Space Station attitude and momentum control problem are presented. This new approach incorporates nonlinear multi-parameter variations in the state-space formulation of H$_{\infty}$ control theory. An application of this robust H$_{\infty}$ control synthesis technique to the Space Station control problem yields a remarkable result in stability robustness with respect to the moments-of-inertia variation of about 73% in one of the structured uncertainty directions. The performance and stability of this new robust H$_{\infty}$ controller for the Space Station are compared to those of other controllers designed using a standard linear-quadratic-regulator synthesis technique.que.

  • In this study, the state-space Newmark method based on average velocity is presented to analyse the transient dynamic response for general dynamic system. The conventional Newmark method based on average acceleration cannot he directly to the first-order state-space differential equations introducing the state-space vector. To overcome this problem, the time-step integration algorithm, based on average velocity concept, suitable for the first-order state-space differential equations is proposed In results, the proposed method has %he numerical stability and order of accuracy, which is proved analytically, equal to those of the conventional Newmark method based on average acceleration. Also, the formulation for numerical solution is very simple and the calculation time Is nearly equal to that of the conventional Newmark method based on average acceleration in spite of an increase of two times over matrix size. This method will be look forward to applying the general dynamic system to calculate the transient dynamic response.

  • This paper describes a liner state-space model for a flexible stick balencer. The method employed to generate the model utilizes a separable formulation of assumed modes to represents the transverse displacement due to bending Lagrangian dynamics are applied to determine the kinetic and potential energies for the system. The resultant dynamic equations are then organized into a state space model and linearized using Taylor series expansion method. A minimum order observer is designed to estimate unmeasurable states.

  • A new method for both local damage(s) identification and input excitation force identification of beam structures is presented using the dynamic response sensitivity-based finite element model updating method. The state-space approach is used to calculate both the structural dynamic responses and the responses sensitivities with respect to structural physical parameters such as elemental flexural rigidity and with respect to the force parameters as well. The sensitivities of displacement and acceleration responses with respect to structural physical parameters are calculated in time domain and compared to those by using Newmark method in the forward analysis. In the inverse analysis, both the input excitation force and the local damage are identified from only several acceleration measurements. Local damages and the input excitation force are identified in a gradient-based model updating method based on dynamic response sensitivity. Both computation simulations and the laboratory work illustrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed method.

  • This paper proposes a new algorithm for determining an optimal control input for production systems. In many production systems, completion time should be planned within the due dates by taking into account precedence constraints and processing times. To solve this problem, the max-plus algebra is an effective approach. The max-plus algebra is an algebraic system in which the max operation is addition and the plus operation is multiplication, and similar operation rules to conventional algebra are followed. Utilizing the max-plus algebra, constraints of the system are expressed in an analogous way to the state-space description in modern control theory. Nevertheless, the formulation of a system is currently performed manually, which is very inefficient when applied to practical systems. Hence, in this paper, we propose a new algorithm for deriving a state-space description and determining an optimal control input with several constraint matrices and parameter vectors. Furthermore, the effectiveness of this proposed algorithm is verified through execution examples.

  • We design the Green-Naghdi model type III (GN-III) with widespread thermoelasticity for a thermoelectric half space using a memory-dependent derivative rule (MDD). Laplace transformations and state-space techniques are used in order to find the general solution for any set of limit conditions. A basic question of heat shock charging half space and a traction-free surface was added to the formulation in the present situation of a traveling heat source with consistent heating speed and ramp-type heating. The Laplace reverse transformations are numerically recorded. There are called the impacts of several calculations of the figure of the value, heat source spead, MDD parameters, magnetic number and the parameters of the ramping period.

  • Pointing to the design requirement of prestressed space grid structure being the target cable force, the pretension scheme decision analysis method is studied when there's great difference between structural actual state and the analytical model. Based on recursive formulation of cable forces, the simulative recursive system for pretension process is established from the systematic viewpoint, including four kinds of parameters, i.e., system initial value (structural initial state), system input value (tensioning control force scheme), system state parameters (influence matrix of cable forces), system output value (pretension accomplishment). The system controllability depends on the system state parameters. Based on cable force observation values, the influence matrix for system state parameters can be calculated, making the system controllable. Next, the pretension scheme decision method based on cable force observation values can be formed on the basis of iterative calculation for recursive system. In this way, the tensioning control force scheme that can meet the design requirement when next cyclic supplemental tension finished is obtained. Engineering example analysis results show that the proposed method in this paper can reduce a lot of cyclic tensioning work and meanwhile the design requirement can be met.

  • The paper presents a novel approach of constructing the state matrix of the multi-machine power system for SSR (subsynchronous resonance) analysis using the linearized equations of individual devices including electrical transmission network dynamics. The machine models in the local d-q reference frame are integrated with the network models in the common R-I reference frame by simply transforming their output equations into the R-I frame where the transformed output is used as the input to the network dynamics or vice versa. The salient feature of the formulation is that it allows for modular construction of various component models without rearranging the overall state space formulation. This universal SSR small signal stability program provides a flexible tool for systematic analyses of SSR small-signal stability impacts of both conventional devices such as generation systems and novel devices such as power electronic apparatus and their controllers. The paper also presents its application results to IEEE benchmark models.
