In the Korean domestic nuclear industry, to analyze the reliability of instrumentation and control (I&C) systems, the failure rates of the electronic components constituting the I&C systems are predicted based on the MIL-HDBK-217F standard titled 'Reliability Prediction of Electronic Equipment'. Based on these predicted failure rates, the mean time to failure of the I&C systems is calculated to determine the replacement period of the I&C systems. However, this conventional approach to the prediction of electronic component failure rates assumes that factors affecting the failure rates such as ambient temperature and operating voltage are static constants. In this regard, the objective of this study is to propose a prediction method for the remaining useful life (RUL) of electronic components considering mean time to failure calculations reflecting dynamic environments, such as changes in ambient temperature and operating voltage. Results of this study show that the RUL of electronic components can be estimated depending on time-varying temperature and electrical stress, implying that the RUL of electronic components can be predicted under dynamic stress conditions.
Component-based software development (CBD) technology has been widely accepted as a new effective paradigm for building software systems with reusable components, consequently reducing efforts and shortening time-to-market. Hence, components should provide standard or common functionalities in a domain, yielding a higher level of reusability. Especially, micro-level variability within the commonality should also be modeled so that a product member-specific business logic or requirement can be supported through component tailoring or customization The importance of commonality and variability (C&V) analysis has been emphasized in several CBD methods, but they lack of well-defined systematic process, detailed instructions, and standard artifact templates. As the result, the development of components has been carried out in ad-hoc fashion, depending on developer's experience. In this paper, we propose a systematic process and work instructions to design components. The process consists of phases and their activities and each activity is specified with detailed instructions and artifact templates in order to facilitate effective development of components. To verify a feasibility of the propose method, a case study in a banking domain and comparison and assessment between the proposed method and other methods are additionally provided. With proposed processes and instructions, reusability and efficiency of developing components can be better supported.
The standard of the allowed stress in designing components such as shafts used in machinery and aircraft should be determined. It is very important to estimate fatigue strength of a component analytically, because service stress of the components is usually under the level of its fatigue limit. Improving the fatigue strength of each component in machinery is essential for high performance, lightness, and endurance. Surface treatment of components is widely used for these purpose. In this research, the fatigue behaviors of SCM415 steel and carbonitried SCM415 steel are examined. In the analysis of the fatigue behaviors of the carbonitrided SCM 415 steel, we propose a modified fatigue strength evaluation model and modified formulae.

The column-type sensing element in building and mechanical construction parts was designed as three forces and three moments sensor by attaching strain gages approximately. Compared to conventional multi-component sensor, the designed sensor has high stiffness and low cost. The radius of the column was designed analytically and compared with finite element analysis. The interference errors between components were minimized by using addition and subtraction procedure of signals. The fabricated sensor was tested by using a deadweight force standard machine and a six-component force calibration machine. The calibration results showed that the 6-component forces and moments sensor had interference error less than 7.3 % between $F_x$ and $M_x$ components, and 5.0 % in case of other components.
The column-type sensing element in building and mechanical construction parts was designed as three forces and three moments sensor by attaching strain gages approximately. Compared to conventional multi-component sensor, the designed sensor can solve the problem about low stiffness and high cost. The radius of the column was designed analytically and compared with finite element analysis. The coupling errors between components were minimized by using addition and subtraction procedure of signals. The fabricated sensor was tested by using a deadweight force standard machine and a six-component force calibration machine in Korea Research Institute of Standards and Science(KRISS). The calibration showed that the multi-component force/moment sensor had coupling error less than 19.8 % between $F_x$ and $M_y$ components, and 9.0 % in case of other components.
This paper deals with harmonic components of the voltage on high temperature superconducting wire carrying an alternating current. HTS wire is used to manufacture superconducting power applications carrying an alternating current. Typically, international standard, IEC 61788-3 is used for critical current measurement. Thus, it is not ideal that critical current criteria in dc are adapted to superconducting power devices to decide the operating current of the devices. In this paper, we confirmed odd harmonic voltage on HTS wires carrying an AC. The ratio between harmonic components and fundamental component can be significant clues to decide the critical current criteria for HTS wire and its power applications in AC circumstance.

Medium size rotorcraft consist of approximately 5,000 key components. The components must satisfy the target weight and performance requirement through optimization. Therefore a rotorcraft component has approximately 100 times higher unit cost for mass production than the equivalent of an automobile's, along with huge development cost. Configuration management consists of four main parts : configuration identification, configuration control, configuration audit, and data management. In development programme, configuration management is one of the methods to save development cost, and setting a well-structured configuration management system according to the Military Standard is an important factor in success of the programme. The paper proposes a configuration management system suitable for development of various multi-use components development and presents that the configuration management was performed successfully during dual-use component development programme using the established system.
The aim of this study is to evaluate the Pi-SAR data for land cover discrimination using a standard method. For this purpose, the original polarization and Pauli components of the Pi-SAR X-band and L-band data are used and the results are compared. As a method for the land cover discrimination, the traditional method of statistical maximum likelihood decision rule is selected. To increase the accuracy of the classification result, different spatial thresholds based on local knowledge are determined and used for the actual classification process. Moreover, to reduce the speckle noise and increase the spatial homogeneity of different classes of objects, a speckle suppression filter is applied to the original Pi-SAR data before applying the classification decision rule. Overall, the research indicated that the original Pi-SAR polarization components can be successfully used for separation of different land cover types without taking taking special polarization transformations.

Among the various artificial neural networks the backpropagation network (BPN) has become a standard one. One of the components in a neural network is an activating function or a transfer function of which a representative function is a sigmoid. We have discovered that by updating the slope parameter of a sigmoid function simultaneous with the weights could improve performance of a BPN.
This study was conducted to evaluate the nutrition quality of the commercial infant formulas and to seek the solution to the establishment of the standard of nutrient requirements for infant formula in Korea. Nutrition informations were obtained from the labels of nineteen commercial infant formulas manufactured by 3 different companies, and the actual amounts of some nutrients were analyzed and compared to the labeled amounts. In addition, the nutrient composition of the commercial infant formulas was compared to the composition of breast milk, RDA for infants, and Codex standard for infant formula. The kind of minerals, vitamins and special components added to the commercial infant formulas were the major differences among 3 manufacturers. For some nutrients, the analyzed amounts were lower than the labeled amounts. In addition when different batches of the same kind of infant formula were analyzed, the large variations in the amounts of certain nutrients were noted. These data suggest that the nutrition labeling informations need to be validated, and nutrients added to the formulas are to be homogenized thoroughly. In order to solve these problems, therefore, like other countries, we need to establish the standard of nutrient requirements for infant formulas. Considering the available data on breast milk composition, RDA for infants and coordination with the international standard, we suggest the adoption of the Codex standard for infant formula may be the best way to manage the nutrition quality of commercial infant formulas at the present time.
