  • The dimensional stability of tissue conditioners characterizes the ability of the materials to yield accurate functional impressions of oral mucosa. This study evaluated the viscoelastic property and the linear dimensional changes with the factor of time and thickness of tissue conditioners ($COE-COMFORT^{TM}$, Visco-gel. $COE-SOFT^{TM}$, Soft-Liner). The thickness of these materials were changed (1.5mm, 3.0mm) and the percentage changes in dimension were measured at 1h, 12h, 24h, 36h, 3day, 7day after specimen preparation. From the results large differences appear between the various tissue conditioners. The results suggest that the period recommended for forming functional impression would be 2-3days after insertion in the mouth. in addition. it is important to select tissue conditioners suitable for functional impression because of the wide range of dimensional stability among the materials.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the preservation of traditional sesame dasik when stored in different packaging material by comparing its physical and sensorial characteristics. The quality and sensory characteristics of sesame dasik that were evaluated were moisture content, water activity, number of microflora, texture profile, Hunter color different value, and sensory properties (color, chewiness, overall acceptability, etc) during the storage at 35\pm1^\circ{C}$ temperature and $73\pm{2%}$ relative humidity. And the packaging materials were paper boxes (coated 0.02mm thickness polyethylene film), plastic boxes, and oriented polypropylene laminated film. Traditional sesame dasik is made from sesame powder 100g, honey 25g, rice syrup 25g, and table salt 0.5g. During the storage period, the changes in water content and water activity of sesame dasik with different packaging material showed a slight decline. On the other hand, it increased in hardness, and "a" and "b" value of Hunter color difference during the storage. Texture profile analysis data change in hardness was the greatest after the third day in a paper box, and it was affected by the moisture content of dasik and the temperature and relative humidity of the air. Therefore plastic boxes or oriented polypropylene laminated film was found to be better suited than paper boxes for storing sesame dasik.

  • The hot water extracts of Paeonia japonica, Paeonia moutan, Eucommia ulmoides, Bupleurum falcatum, Cornus officinalis were freeze dried and dissolved with 70% ethanol. These extracts were fractionated with ethanol soluble fraction(ESF) and ethanol insoluble fraction(EIF). To compare oxidative stability effect of these extracts with that of BHA, linoleic acid with 3,000ppm extracts was incubated at 35$^{\circ}C$. Induction period of BHA was 9 days but that of Paeonia japonica ESF and Scutellaria baicalensis ESF was 12, 9 days respectively. And the higher antioxidant activity was observed for ESF than EIF of these extracts.

  • This retrospective study evaluates the clinical performance of the recently introduced $XiVE^{(R)}$ implant(Dentsply-Friadent) with a new macro-design to improve primary stability. A total of 208 $XiVE^{(R)}$ implants (101 in the maxilla and 107 in the mandible) were placed in 71 patients. The average age of the patients was 49 years. Of the 208 implants, 190 (91.3%) were posterior implants and 82 (39.4%) were placed in compromised sites (grafted sites). Clinical and radiographic evaluation were made at second stage surgery for exposure and after functional loading. 192 implants in 64 patients were evaluated at exposure and 146 implants in 50 patients were loaded (average 170 days-loading) and evaluated after functional loading. Of 192 implants available for evaluation before loading, 3 implants failed (early failure) ; 1 before exposure, 1 at exposure and 1 during prosthetic procedure. 2 implants were in the maxilla and 1 was in the mandible. The success rate before loading was 98.4%. After functional loading, no implant failure was occurred in 146 implants evaluated during this period (100% interval success rate). This preliminary data with a new implant showed excellent success rate although the majority of implants evaluated in this study were placed in the posterior region of the jaw and compromised sites.

  • The concept design of the typha strawbale masonry came up as a result of the urgent demand for a means of constructing sustainable buildings, both in rural and urban settlement, not only suitable for dwellers but for keeping farm products by structures that will respond to the environmental eco-system, coupled with the fact that such structures are also affordable, durable and easy to maintain during their service period. The effects of contact between plaster and the stacked strawbale of a masonry needs to be established and design optimization for durability and stability of the masonry be obtained. The assessment will involve the application of plaster materials (cement and natural earth) to the wall specimen panels. Past works have shown that plastered strawbale walls have adequate resistance against the appropriate vertical loads, and further showed that the earth plaster can bear higher stress than the cement plastered straw bale. There is the implication that the collapse or response of the earth-strawbale wall is significantly higher compared to that of cement-strawbale from other straw-based masonries. Therefore the allowable stresses of plastered typha strawbale shall be predicted for their optimum values using SAP2000. The stress stability of each masonry is obtained by analytical model using the best fit variables for the wall height and thickness.

  • India is the top recipient of workers' remittance flows; recent data indicate that the Remittances/GDP ratio has increased from 2.7% in 2000 to 3.36% in 2015. We apply a consumption behavior model, based on the "permanent income hypothesis", to estimate the consumption augmentation and the stability impact for the period of 1989-2014. The independent variables are: (i) real per capita income (exclusive of remittances) is the measure of "permanent income", (ii) remittances is the measure of "transitory income", and (iii) real interest rate as the indicator of consumers' ability for intertemporal consumption. The economic ramifications are important since current global risk factors could decrease flows in the future. The results indicate the significance of all three variables; there are: (i) evidence of significant consumption augmentation, (ii) consumption responds higher to remittances than to real income, the remittance elasticity is 0.571 and the income elasticity is 0.31, and (iii) evidence of pro-cyclical effect. The VAR model indicates some linkages and causality in the series that result in small response to the shocks. Policies to increase or stabilize remittance flows and to leverage remittances for economic development are important.

  • Lycopene as a natural antioxidant may provide protection against a broad range of epithelial cancers and chronic diseases. Lycopene concentrate extracted from tomatoes can be used as functional food. Lycopene would undergo degradation via isomerization and oxidation under different processing conditions, which impact its bioactivity and reduce the fuuctionality for health benefits. Heat and light induce lycopene oxidation and isomerization of all-trans form to cis form. The effects of thermal treatment and light irradiation on the stability of lycopene were determined. Results have shown that lycopene stability depends on the extent of oxidation and isomerization. Cir-isomers are less stable than trans-isomers. The level of cis-isomers increased as treatment time increased but only for a short period during the beginning of the treatment. The major effect of thermal treatment and light irradiation was a significant decrease in the total lycopene content. A true assessment of health benefits of lycopene concentrate depends on the lycopene content and the composition of all trans-isomers and cia-isomers.

  • Stabilization of liposomes against degradation by bile salts has been investigated in order to develop a liposomal model system for oral drug delivery. Two polysaccharides, amylopectin (AP) and chitin (CT), were employed to coat both empty liposomes and bromthymol blue (BTB)-encapsulated liposomes by adsorption-coating techniques. Turbidity changes and BTB-release characteristics in pH 5.6 buffer solutions with or without bile salts, sodium cholate and sodium glycocholate, were observed to compare the differences between uncoated liposomes and polysaccharide-coated liposomes. Initial turbidities of both uncoated and polysaccharide-coated liposomes in buffer solution were kept constant within 3% range during 4 hours of experiments. But they were decreased in a different manner in bile salts-containing buffer solutions, showing 10% or less decrease for polysaccharide-coated liposomes and 25% or more decrease for uncoated liposomes. BTB release from uncoated liposomes has been greatly increased upto 90% after 4 hours in bile salts-containing buffer solution, which is a clue for breakdown of liposomal vesicles. However, polysaccharide-coated liposomes showed the controlled-release pattern which is proportional to square-root of time, followed by around 50% release for the same time period. Consequently, it is possible to conclude that these polysaccharide-coated liposomes might be an available system for oral delivery of a drug which is unstable in gut environment.

  • The dyeing sludge can be weakened by inflow of rainfall or absorption of moisture after it is buried in a waste landfill. This study tested the dyeing sludge and earth/sand mixture to check the problem when the dehydrated dyeing sludge is buried in a waste landfill. When the dyeing sludge was left idle with high water content inside a landfill with poor draining for a long period, the water permeability decreased to around 3/100 level and the compressibility increased by 1.4 times compared to the dyeing sludge at a dyeing factory. The study result indicated that it was important to reduce the water content inside the landfill for stability. Also, the facilities to secure the drainage path and eliminate leachate were needed.

  • Dependence of the standard deviation of wind direction fluctuations, ${\sigma}_{\theta}$, on atmospheric stability, averaging time and topography were analysed with the data measured at three sites, Youngjongdo beach of the Yellow Sea, Chuncheon basin and Doam-Dam valley. The results show that the mean value of ${\sigma}_{\theta}$ is large in complex terrain, the Doam-Dam site. It is notable that the large value of ${\sigma}_{\theta}$ at night is associated with the low wind speed and the strong stable condition. In order to study the long-period fluctuations of the wind direction, ${\sigma}_{\theta}$ for longer than 10 minutes averaging time was further analysed using the data obtained at the Chuncheon basin. At the averaging time shorter than 60 minutes, larger ${\sigma}_{\theta}$ is associated with longer averaging time in the strong stable condition. However, ${\sigma}_{\theta}$ was not affected significantly by wind speed and averaging time in neutral conditions. The results of the spectrum analysis for the time series data of wind direction showed that low-frequency fluctuations ranging from 10 to 60 minutes were dominated at the Chuncheon basin in strong stable condition.
