Torque Analysis of Magnetic Spur Gear with Radial Magnetized Permanent Magnets based on Analytical Method (해석적 방법을 이용한 반경방향 영구자석을 갖는 자기 스퍼 기어의 토크특성해석)

  • This paper deals with torque analysis of magnetic spur gear with radial magnetized permanent magnets based on analytical method. The analysis is implemented in three parts: First, on the basis of magnetic vector potential and a two-dimensional (2D) polar-coordinate system, the magnetic field solution due to permanent magnet of source gear are obtained. And by using derived magnetic field solutions, the analytical solutions for external magnetic field distribution which affects load gear are obtained. Second, by using coordinate conversion, external magnetic field which is on the primary coordinate system is converted to the secondary coordinate system. Finally, the load gear is reduced to equivalent current densities, and the torque is computed on these currents in the external field of the source magnet. These analytical results are validated by comparing with the 2-D finite element analysis (FEA).

  • Nowadays, lower gear vibration and noise are necessary for drivers in automotive gearbox, which means that transmission gearbox should be optimized to avoid noise annoyance and fatigue before quantity production. Transmission error (T.E.) is the excitation factor that affects the noise level known as gear whine, and is also the dominant source of noise in the gear transmission system. In this paper, the research background, the definition of T.E. and gear micro-modification were firstly presented, and then different transmission errors of loaded torques for the spur gear pair were studied and compared by a commercial software. It was determined that the optimum gear micro-modification could be applied to optimize the transmission error of the loaded gear pair. In the future, a transmission test rig which is introduced in this paper is about to be used to study the T.E. after gear micro-geometry modification. And finally, the optimized modification can be verified by B&K testing equipment in the semi-anechoic room later.

  • This study focuses on a detailed ball-bearing model for spur gears. The nonlinear ball-bearing stiffness with radial clearance is derived and calculated. The bearing stiffness is used to the 3-degree-of-freedom (DOF) spur gear system model. The mode characteristics of the gear system model are analyzed and verified by performing finite-element analysis (FEA). From the results, the bearing stiffness on the radial clearance was more sensitive under low-load conditions compared to high-load conditions. The bearing stiffness significantly affected the gear dynamics in the low-frequency region, while the mesh stiffness affected the high natural frequency.

  • In this paper, elastic deformations of several gear teeth are analyzed. The contact between a gear and pinion is modeled as a contact problem. The deformation overlap, which is defined as the interference due to deformation of gear teeth, is defined to represent the deformation characteristics of profile shifted spur sear system. The calculated deformation overlap shows teeth interference in the deformed state of a Rear system.

  • In this paper, finite element analysis of a cycloidal pitch reducer for a 2 MW-class wind turbine is reviewed. The system is composed of one cycloid set, one spur gear set, an input shaft, an output shaft, and a housing. The system was also evaluated for stability by analyzing spur gear strength according to ISO 6336. An analysis of the natural vibration characteristics of the 2 MW-class wind turbine cycloid pitch reducer was performed with attention to critical speed with input mass unbalance, output mass unbalance, spur gear transmission error, cycloid gear transmission error, and excitation frequency.

  • This paper describes a computer aided design system for spur and helical gears. To establish the appropriate program, an integrate approach based on a rule-base system was adopted. This system is implemented on the personal computer and its environment is a commercial CAD package called AutoCAD. This system includes a main program and five sub-modules such as data input module, tooth profile drawing module, strength calculation module, and drawing edit module. In the main program, all the sub-modules are loaded and the type of gear and tooth profile are selected. In the data input module, the variables which are necessary to the design of gear are selected from the database. In the drawing module, from the calculated results, the required gear tooth is produced on the screen. The developed system that aids gear designer provides powerful capabilities for gear design.

  • The gear that is used in various mechanical components occurs easily damages due to the repeated torque and the high oil temperature. The main failure mode of the gear is the surface deterioration with the tooth surface fatigue. Therefore, the life evaluation and the failure analysis of the gear were very important since it may cause fatal damage of entire gear box system. In this paper, the failure mechanism and the life of the gear were evaluated using the durability analysis simulator such as MSC.FATIGUE. Moreover, the reliability analysis model of the spur gear with the accelerated life testing technique was proposed.

  • Gear transmission system is widely applied in engineering. As the problem of contact fatigue, wear, lubrication failure etc, the condition of gear teeth contacts will be worse. The vibration and sound signals in the gear system will be affected by the some failures like scuffing, abrasive wear and spalling due to the deterioration of gear teeth surface. By studying the estimation of specific film thickness, measurement of reduction in tooth thickness, visual examination of wear mechanisms on the gear teeth and their effects on the statistical parameters of vibration and sound signals, the research obtained the satisfactory results on accessing the surface fatigue wear in a spur gear system. The paper utilizes the relationship between statistical parameters obtained from sound signals and Stribeck curve to confirm the hypothesis of dependency of surface fatigue wear, specific film thickness.

  • Currently, there are many power transmission devices, including gears, friction wheels, chains, and belts. Because the power transmission of gears is most certainin these devices, gears are widely used in different power transmission fields and environments. In accordance with the gear shape, gears can be classified as cylindrical gears and conical gears. A cylindrical gear, which provides a means of power transmission under parallel axis and skewed axis conditions, contains a spur gear, a helical gear and a worm gear. A conical gear, which can be used on a skewed axis as well as parallel and crossed axes, includes a bevel gear(e.g., straight bevel, spiral bevel, hypoid gear) and a conical involute gear(or a bevel oid gear). In this paper, a conical involute gear which utilizes the fabrication method of other involute gears such as spur and helical gears using a CNC hobbing machine is discussed.

  • This work investigated the performance improvement of a medium-pressure fixed-displacement-type SPUR gear pump, which is mainly used in the machine tool industry. The 3D CFX analysis and IS technique were applied using ANSYS (commercial FEM code) and compared with experimental results to ensure the reliability of the analysis. In addition, the performance improvement of the pump was obtained using the theoretical volumetric displacement equation, and the gear tooth width was changed. The pressure flow performance curves were compared, and the results were analyzed according to the width of the gear teeth. This is a factor that can cause irregular flow, vibration, and noise inside the gear pump owing to friction between the housing and gear pump.
