Establishing Traffic Speed Limits Standard and Accident Risk Analysis of Truck (화물차량의 사고위험도 분석 및 통행속도 제한기준 정립)

  • This paper presents the traffic speed limit of heavy vehicles at each wind velocity region, which is based on their accident risk analysis under cross-wind. The variables for the accident risk analysis are overall height, overall length, intake weight, and friction coefficient of the road surface. It was confirmed from analysis results that the risk of overturning increased with higher overall height and length, and the risk of sliding decreased with higher intake weight. The risk of sliding was largest at the friction coefficient of 0.1, and the risk of overturning was lagest at friction coefficient more than 0.25. Finally, traffic speed limit was proposed by using the accident risk analysis.

A Study on the Time Required and Error Tolerance Limits for Flight Data Computation (비행자료산출을 위한 소요시간과 정답오차범위에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of the present paper is to determine the time required and error tolerance limits for flight data computation. The results of statistical analysis showed that the calculator side computation required about 50 seconds for each question and wind side computation needed about 115 seconds for each question. In case of error tolerance limits, it was found that the error tolerance limit for altitude computation war 90 feet and two knots of interval was recommanded for the speed computation in calculator side, and one degree of interval for heading computation and five knots interval for speed computation in wind side.

  • This paper present a unified method of steady state performance analysis and limits characteristics of an autonomous three-phase self-excited induction generator (SEIG) driven by a wind turbine under different types of loads and speeds. The proposed method is based on a new mathematical function to solve for the real and imaginary components of the complex equation of the mathematical model. Performances limits, regulation and characteristics of different configurations will be thoroughly examined and compared. The proposed system will be modeled and simulated and the performance limits characteristics will be compared with variable speed and variable capacity.

  • The stabilization of propane/air lean premixed flames by a heated cylindrical rod is investigated experimentally. The flame stability limits, heat flux, surface temperatures, equivalence ratios, and mixture velocities are measured in order to understand the role of heat flux or surface temperature on the flame stabilization of lean premixed flames. The flame stability limits are lowered by a heated cylindrical rod and extended even below the flammability limit of propane/air mixture when sufficient heat flux is provided. The flame stability limit decreases with the increase of heat flux or surface temperature and decreases with the higher mixture velocity. The diameter of cylindrical rod, however, dose not significantly affect the flame stability limit. The laminar flame speed has been measured for ultra lean propane/air premixed flames. The flame stabilization by a heated cylindrical rod provides the useful tool for the measurement of flame speed under very fuel-lean conditions.

  • The prototype of Korean high speed train (KHST), composed of two power cars, two motorized cars and three trailer cars, has been designed, fabricated and tested by the domestic researchers. In this paper, the body vibration has been reviewed from the viewpoint of the vehicle's safety and the vibration limits for components and sub-assemblies mounted on the car-body using by the experimental method. The on-line test of KHST has been carried out up to 260 km/h in the KTX line and proved that KHST has no problems in the vehicle's safety and the vibration limits at this speed. And the characteristics of body vibrations has been predicted at 300 km/h and 350 km/h by fitting curve about the measured acceleration signals.

  • The purpose of Speed limit at sea is to keep harbor calmness, to maintain efficient traffic flow and to prevent maritime accidents. The Korean Regional Maritime Affairs and Port Office(KRMAPO) specified and enforced the ship's speed limits at the 19 harbors around the Korean coasts. However, problems have been raised to the adequacy of speed limits. This paper made a research on the speed limit set standards, analyzed vessel traffic survey and the dilemma on the specified speed limits imposed by KRMAPO. The result of this study has shown an overall average of 48 % violation rate on speed limit with passenger ships and large vessels of more than 5,000 tons having higher violation rate. Average speed was higher than the limit speed in some harbors and deviation of 4.2 to 5.2 knots was investigated. Further, harbors having higher average speed also have higher deviation accident incidence. Therefore, this paper had confirmed that there is a need for institutional review and improvement of Korea's port and fairways speed traffic management.

  • Usually urban railways are built under ground thus the necessary condition of urban railroad, a linear-shaped track, causes a difficulty in enhancement of speed limits of urban rail. Also the underground construction of city railroad produces speed limit values reduced according to a speed code array, in case of speed decision according to the conventional block section division, thus onventionally it could not but apply speed limit values lower than actual safety speeds. In this study, The above two facts induced the author to study on a method to enhance speed limit values for CBTC within existing urban railroad sectors. Since it is possible to exchange data continuously and to control speeds in case of railroads based on CBTC, the author applied result values of speed limits, which were gained based on a railroad condition, a linear track, to the CBTC system without correction of the result values and then the author compared and analyzed, through simulation, the running times and the efficiencies of running energies between railway stations, between the existing fixed-block system and the CBTC system. As a result simulation, the improvement of speed and the deceleration distance of reduction confirmed that it was effective to reduce the time to travel between stations. A fixed block the set of constraints on the speed limit, he way the operation is optimized based CBTC speed limit by suggesting ways to reset the scheduled speed measures to improve were extracted.

[ $\overline{X}$ ] Chart with Geometrically Adjusted Control Limits under Continually Improving Processes (지속적으로 향상되는 공정에서 기하 조정 관리한계를 사용한 $\overline{X}$ 관리도)

  • An adjusted control limit of the $\overline{X}$ chart is proposed for monitoring the continually improving processes. The continual improvement of the process implies the decrease of the process variance, which is represented by a logistic curve. The process standard deviation is estimated by the exponentially weighted moving average of the sample standard deviations from the past to the current times. The control limits are adjusted by the estimated standard deviation at every sampling time. The performance of the adjusted control limit is compared with that of the standard control limits for various cases of the decreasing speed and size of the variance. The results show that the $\overline{X}$ chart with the adjusted control limits provides better performances for monitoring the small and moderate shifts in continually improving processes.

  • There has been a strong demand for providing diverse services to drivers utilizing existing ITS infrastructure. To this end, this study is aiming at improving the accuracy of a variable speed limit system by determining recommended speeds for the system utilizing the information from Urban Traffic Information System(UTIS) and Weather Information System(WIS). In order to determine appropriate speed limits under inclement weather conditions for the variable speed limit system, this study examined three methods: i) the method utilizing the information from WIS, ii) the method utilizing the information from UTIS, and iii) the method which combines the information from WIS and UTIS using different weights for diverse weather conditions. Finally, this study selected the third method which determines an appropriate speed limit using the relationship between the vehicle operating speed and the minimum stopping distance which is estimated using the existing speed limit, surface coefficient of friction and superelevation.
