  • In this paper, the performance of DS-CDMA system with smart antenna is analyzed for different bandwidths (1.25MHz, 5MHz) and different channel environments (rural, urban). For the analysis of smart antenna system, the vector channel model having the spatio-temporal correlation is needed. Hence, the channel is modeled as a time-variant linear filter in time, and each multipath is assumed as a reflective wave from only one direction (only one cluster) in space. A simulation is carried out by dividing several multipaths within one chip into each one and searching the strongest signal. DS-CDMA system with smart antenna using wider bandwidth present better performance than that using narrow bandwidth. It is shown that the smart antenna is more effective in urban area when using 2D-RAKE receiver.

  • This study is to contemplate an ultimate goal and new methodology the architecture and space design community should pursue forward by analyzing concepts in Kengo Kuma's idea of "Anti-object" and examining his design methods and characteristics. To this end, I reviewed space design methods and features in his book of "Anti-Object" and his architectures built around in 2000. The result is as in the followings. (1) Contact is an essential concept of "Anti-object" to connect and integrate divided materials and consciousness with time and space. (2) Elimination is a meaningful way to reverse "cohesiveness" of agglomerated cluster which is a form of object and reconstruct it into the form of passive and acceptive "Anti-object". This idea is realized through overlap of material property and removal of massing. (3) Minimization is a concept of "Anti-object" to set the temporality free from constraints of materials. Three-dimensional transparent faces and lines or patterns of porous materials can be used to remove static and coercive volume. (4) A particle is a "reflector of its environment." It rebuilds one-way or disconnected communication between human and architecture into an interactive one. Kengo Kuma materializes this "particle" by exploring positional relation with physical paths, precise details and measurements.

  • This study aimed to provide a basic information for managing the water quality of national and regional 1st rivers in Gyeongnam by analyzing the emerging hot spot patterns in BOD, T-P, and TOC, and by grouping the changing trends into clusters. The emerging hot spot analysis for each water quality item was implemented in ArcGIS Desktop with monthly water quality data from 96 water environmental monitoring stations in Gyeongnam, and then four patterns of water quality change were classified by the K-mean cluster analysis. As for BOD, persistent cold spot pattern covered about 42.9% of target rivers, and T-P concentration tended to be low or be getting lower at over 70% of target rivers. While, for TOC, about 70% of target rivers resulted in oscillating hot spots. In addition, the cluster analysis showed that the downstream of Nakdong river had the top priority in terms of water quality management because of the increasing concentration for all the three water quality.

  • Segmentation plays an important role in the field of image processing and computer vision. Intuitionistic fuzzy C-means (IFCM) clustering algorithm emerged as an effective technique for image segmentation in recent years. However, standard fuzzy C-means (FCM) and IFCM algorithms are sensitive to noise and initial cluster centers, and they ignore the spatial relationship of pixels. In view of these shortcomings, an improved algorithm based on IFCM is proposed in this paper. Firstly, we propose a modified non-membership function to generate intuitionistic fuzzy set and a method of determining initial clustering centers based on grayscale features, they highlight the effect of uncertainty in intuitionistic fuzzy set and improve the robustness to noise. Secondly, an improved nonlinear kernel function is proposed to map data into kernel space to measure the distance between data and the cluster centers more accurately. Thirdly, the local spatial-gray information measure is introduced, which considers membership degree, gray features and spatial position information at the same time. Finally, we propose a new measure of intuitionistic fuzzy entropy, it takes into account fuzziness and intuition of intuitionistic fuzzy set. The experimental results show that compared with other IFCM based algorithms, the proposed algorithm has better segmentation and clustering performance.

  • Sensor Nodes play a major role to monitor and sense the variations in physical space in various real-time application scenarios. These nodes are powered by limited battery resources and replacing those resource is highly tedious task along with this it increases implementation cost. Thus, maintaining a good network lifespan is amongst the utmost important challenge in this field of WSN. Currently, energy efficient routing techniques are considered as promising solution to prolong the network lifespan where multi-hop communications are performed by identifying the most energy efficient path. However, the existing scheme suffer from performance related issues. To solve the issues of existing techniques, a novel hybrid technique by merging particle swarm optimization and game theory model is presented. The PSO helps to obtain the efficient number of cluster and Cluster Head selection whereas game theory aids in finding the best optimized path from source to destination by utilizing a path selection probability approach. This probability is obtained by using conditional probability to compute payoff for agents. When compared to current strategies, the experimental study demonstrates that the proposed GTPSO strategy outperforms them.

  • Renewable energy such as wave energy has gained popularity as a means of reducing greenhouse gases. However, the high cost and lack of available sea space in some countries have hindered the deployment of wave energy converters (WEC) as alternative means of sustainable energy production. By combining WECs with infrastructures such as floating breakwaters or piers, the idea of electricity generated from WECs will be more appealing. This paper considers the integration of vertical raft-type WEC (commonly known as the vertical flap WEC) with floating breakwater as means to generate electricity and attenuate wave force in the tropical sea. An array of 25 WECs attached to a floating breakwater is considered where their performance and effect on the wave climate are presented. The effects of varying dimensions of the WEC and mooring system of the floating breakwater have on the energy generation are investigated. The integrated WECs and floating breakwater is subjected to both the regular and irregular waves in the tropical sea to assess the performance of the system. The result shows that the integrated vertical flap-floating breakwater system can generate a substantial amount of wave energy and at the same time attenuate the wave force effectively for the tropical sea when optimal dimensions of the WECs are used.

  • Wireless sensor network system collects and analyzes real-time data that have been requested by the many application nodes. This paper has constructed a sensor network cluster with various elements in the Gunsan City area of Jeollabuk-do, S.korea. The purpose of this paper is to utilize the constructed system in order to illustrate the real-time data in a diagram and analyze it to deduce the change ratio. The resulting analysis contents allow simple data interpretation by illustrating the data in change ratio by time, space, and motional directions. This analytical method will offer great benefit to those users using the wireless sensor network.
