  • Approaches to several recent issues in the operation of nuclear power plants using computational intelligence are discussed. These issues include 1) noise analysis techniques, 2) on-line monitoring and sensor validation, 3) regularization of ill-posed surveillance and diagnostic measurements, 4) transient identification, 5) artificial intelligence-based core monitoring and diagnostic system, 6) continuous efficiency improvement of nuclear power plants, and 7) autonomous anticipatory control and intelligent-agents. Several changes to the focus of Computational Intelligence in Nuclear Engineering have occurred in the past few years. With earlier activities focusing on the development of condition monitoring and diagnostic techniques for current nuclear power plants, recent activities have focused on the implementation of those methods and the development of methods for next generation plants and space reactors. These advanced techniques are expected to become increasingly important as current generation nuclear power plants have their licenses extended to 60 years and next generation reactors are being designed to operate for extended fuel cycles (up to 25 years), with less operator oversight, and especially for nuclear plants operating in severe environments such as space or ice-bound locations.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the factors that influenced level of housewives family leisure participation and their life satisfaction. So, this study analysed the effects of motivations, resources, and perceived adquacy of resources on family leisure activities and life satisfaction of housewives. Data for 389 housewives residing in Daegu were selected from using questionnaire. The major findings were : 1. Motivations for family leisure activities were classified in change-oriented, family-oriented, relaxational, and imitational types. 2. The participation level of family leisure activity showed significant differences by motivation for family leisure, resources for family leisure, and perceived adequacy of resources. 3. The level of life satisfaction showed significant differences by motivation for leisure, resources for leisure, and perceived adequacy of resources. And the variables which affected the level of life satisfaction independently were family-oriented motivation for leisure, space for leisure, perceived adequacy of burgets and space for leisure.

  • This paper suggests policy implications for Daedeok Innopolis (DI) in Daejeon by comparing the development and problems of DI with the San Diego biotechnology cluster. DI has strengthened its capabilities for technology commercialization and business activities after having created and managed by the Korean central government. While DI has been successful in increasing the number of institutes, researchers, research activities, however, its dynamism is not rigorous enough to be a regional innovative system. San Diego's scientific and entrepreneurial community shows the importance of formulating social and spatial contexts for mutual interactions and engagements. In San Diego, UCSD and networking organizations, especially CONNECT, are central in promoting interactions and communications between regional constituents including entrepreneurs, academics and local governments. The mechanisms of San Diego biotechnology imply that DI should provide more attention to designing and developing social and geographical space that can unleash the creative power of social interactions. To build an innovative regional system, DI needs to renovate its space, public-private relationship and networking platforms.

  • Much research has been conducted on user behavior by taking surveys and interviews to plan the green space effectively. However, there is a limitation in understanding detailed user characteristics such as personalities and values. This study applied the Persona-based Scenario Method (PSM) to Hongneung Experimental Forest to understand the detailed needs and behaviors of the users in the forest recreation area. The PSM is a user experience modeling technique, which tries to understand the users by describing the type of users as real people. This study 1) extracts the factors of visitor recreation activities in Hongneung Experimental Forest based on the results of the survey, 2) develops user personas based on the results of survey and comes up with activity factors, and 3) designs user scenarios. As a result of applying the PSM, 64 factors of visitor activities were derived from the observation survey in 14 sites of Hongneung Experimental Forest and 25 key factors of visitor activities were chosen through observer's brainstorming. Second, three types of personas were developed considering the key factors and the results of user characteristics with quantitative and qualitative analysis. Lastly, context scenarios were designed by applying the key factors of visitor recreation activities to the persona model. We identified the design problems of the space and design requirements through the scenarios. This study has significance in that it takes an approach from the user perspective and was applied to the forest recreation area, which was mainly used in product design. The developed personas could be used for deriving design elements and setting the direction for planning considering detailed needs, behaviors and characteristics of users.

  • "Anmadang" of traditional Korean house is an empty space, surrounded by buildings shaped like the letter, ‘ㅁ’.‘ㅁ’shaped traditional Korean house provides much more comfortable outdoor space for various activities than ‘ㅡ’shaped traditional Korean house. In this paper it has been tried to analyse the dry bulb temperature condition of indoor and outdoor space through measurement of dry bulb temperature in Anmadang, Maru and outdoor space. This paper also analyses the correlation of dry bulb temperature between Anmadang and outdoor space with seasonal variations in traditional Korean houses.

  • Internationally, Korean people and society are known to be workaholic, however, recently some changes have come with the inauguration of the 5 working-days system as well as the rising of economic power and high level of education. Many people come to enjoy leisure time with various activities. Especially, arts become the subject of concern as a kind of leisure life, and also gallery become a important space. However, the renovation of the gallery space is required Inevitably because many galleries have been located in too formal or fixed building space, and the management of it has not been executed thoroughly. This study aims at the suggestion of the specialized and differentiated renovation plan for gallery as cultural space offering the right notion and information about the arts as well as rest to citizens, also as exhibit space showing the object efficiently.

  • The purpose of this research was to grasp the space funtions, the preferred image in bathroom and to find out the plan of bathroom. The subjects of investigation included university students in third decades of which data were obtained by the questionnaire survey method. The major findings were as follows: 1) The space funtions of bathroom were the hygienic activities and the supplementary funtions as resting and health-care. 2) Total and facility image in bathroom take a serious view of a sanitary, a function and following to a mood , a sense of space. 3) The preferred type of bathrooms were identified as the 2-space type. Furthermore, the demands were needed in radiator & pannel heating system, storing furniture and funtional lighting & mirror. According to those results, three types of space plan for bathroom can be suggested and color & forms of design elements can be proposed.

  • It is a basic study to speculate the old form of urban space. The purpose of the study is to study how to build a database that can synthesize multiple data describing the past. In particular, It was focused to the first half time of Seoul City during the Chosun Dynasty. Data is structured systematically and inclusively through digitizing, visualization, and specification. Through this, the city's urban space scene is reconstructed as a map of the city. And maps include various humanities information explaining the aspects of space activities. And it will become a system that will facilitate data management and improve the clarity of information.
