  • This paper presents an efficient data acquisition scheme to obtain a minimum CPU memory, optimized communication speed, and simplified program source code in a monitoring system. It is different in the number of utilized data from the conventional method which acquires every raw data. The proposed method uses only restrictive data required to reconstruct the original signal. The basic principle is to apply the FFT-IFFT method in data transferring process. To verify the high-performance of the proposed scheme, computer-aided simulation and experiments using a PV power monitoring system are carried out. It also presents the analyzed results the relationship between FFT's order and Gibb's Phenomenon.

  • The primary goal in this paper is to analyze urban growth patterns using multi-temporal remote sensing images and geographic information data. In order to accomplish this purpose, firstly data pre-processing is carried out, and then land-use maps are generated with ancillary data source by heads-up on-screen digitizing. Lastly, using the results of the previous stages, the patterns of land-use and urban changes are monitored by the proposed scheme. In this research, using the multi-temporal images and geographic information data, monitoring of urban growth was carried out with the application of urban land-use changes.

  • During the rainy season, heavy downpours are always a source of concern for the world. Flooding and heavy rains can devastate communities, disrupt agriculture, and contribute to traffic accidents.. Weir and flow hall effect sensors are the conventional analytical methods for measuring flow rate; in this paper, we analyzed manhole flowrate statistics. The measurement of the flow rate of a notch/weir is a time-consuming task that necessitates continuous mathematical analysis. . We created three types of IoT sensors in this study: (HC-SR04 ultrasonic, YF-S201 magnetic, and HB100 radar), which take the sensor's real-time input signal and estimate the flow using a notch equation and a previously calibrated optimized coefficient of discharge. The proposed systems are cost-effective, but in terms of accuracy, we found that the HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor is the best of the three systems

  • In the present study, the real-time monitoring system is developed based on the wireless sensor network (WSN) and power line communication (PLC) employed in the 3,000-ton-class training ship. The WSN consists of sensor nodes, router, gateway and middleware. The PLC is composed of power lines, modems, Ethernet gateway and phase-coupler. The basic tests show that the ship has rather good environments for the wired and wireless communications. The developed real-time monitoring system is applied to recognize the thermal environments of main-engine room and one cabin in the ship. The main-engine room has lots of heat sources and needs careful monitoring to satisfy safe operation condition or detect any human errors beforehand. The monitoring is performed in two regions near the turbocharger and cascade tank, considered as heat sources. The cabin on the second deck is selected to monitor the thermal environments because it is close to the heat source of main engine. The monitoring results of the cabin show the thermal environment is varied by the human activity. The real-time monitoring for the thermal environment would be useful for the planning of the ventilation strategy based on the traces of the human activity against inconvenient thermal environments as well as the recognizing the temperature itself in each cabin.

  • The time difference of arrival(TDOA) algorithm is being used widely for identifying the location of a source emanating either electrical or acoustic signal. It's application areas will not be limited to identifying the source at a fixed location, for example the origin of an earthquake, but will also include the trajectory monitoring for a moving source equipped with a GPS sensor. Most of the TDOA algorithm uses time correlation technique to find the time delay between received signals, and therefore difficult to be used for identifying the location of multiple sources. In this paper a TDOA algorithm based on cross-spectrum is developed to find the trajectory of two sound sources with different frequencies. Although its application is limited to for the sources on a disk plane, it can be applied for identifying the locations of more than two sources simultaneously.

  • The technique for estimation of sound source direction is one of the important methods necessary for various engineering fields such as monitoring system, military services and so on. As a new approach for estimation of sound source direction, this paper propose the bio-mimetic localization sensor based on mechanically coupling structure motivated by hearing structure of fly, Ormia Ochracea. This creature is known for its outstanding recognition ability to the sound which has large wavelength compared to its own size. ITTF (Inter-Tympanal Transfer Function) which is the transfer function between displacements of the tympanal membranes on each side has the all inter-tympanal information dependent on sound direction. The peak and notch features of desired ITTF can be generated by using the appropriate mechanical properties. A example of estimation of sound source direction using generated ITTF with monotonically changing notch and peak patterns is shown.

  • Americium-beryllium (Am-Be; n, ${\gamma}$) is a neutron emitting source used in various research fields such as chemistry, physics, geology, archaeology, medicine, and environmental monitoring, as well as in the forensic sciences. It is a mobile source of neutron activity (20 Ci), yielding a small thermal neutron flux that is water moderated. The aim of this study is to develop a model to increase the neutron thermal flux of a source such as Am-Be. This study achieved multiple advantageous results: primarily, it will help us perform neutron activation analysis. Next, it will give us the opportunity to produce radio-elements with short half-lives. Am-Be single and multisource (5 sources) experiments were performed within an irradiation facility with a paraffin moderator. The resulting models mainly increase the thermal neutron flux compared to the traditional method with water moderator.

  • Two specimens of mortar containing artificial slit and Geochang granite containing the straight notch were selected to be used in this research. Source mechanism of micro-crack by radiation pattern based on dislocation the-ory was estimated by the first motion of longitudinal wave and spatial distribution between the location of transducers for monitoring acoustic emission and source coordinates determined by the application of the least square method. Result of analysis showed that the orientation of dislocation surfaces due to shear dislocation and tensile dislocation squares considerably with crack direction visually observed. The ultimate goal of this study is to provide fundamental information for source mechanism of micro-crack within materials.
