Characteristics of TN and TP in Runoff from Reclaimed Paddy Field of Fine Sandy Loam

  • This study investigated the runoff from rice paddy located on reclaimed fine sandy loam soil to provide data for the development of policies to protect water quality of estuaries. Total N (TN), Total P (TP) concentrations and runoff loads at outlet were monitored from 2006 to 2008. Soil phosphate adsorptivity was measured and compared with typical paddy soil in watersheds. TP concentration of the paddy water and TP runoff loads were much greater than those of typical paddy field in watershed because phosphate adsoptivity in reclaimed paddy field of fine sandy loam appeared to be a third of those of typical paddy soils by relatively low soil OM and high sand content of the reclaimed soil. Thus, nutrient runoff, particularly phosphate from the reclaimed paddy field needs to be managed more thoroughly to protect estuarine water quality.

점적관개에 따른 토양수분 재분배 균일성 평가 (Uniformity Assessment of Soil Moisture Redistribution for Drip Irrigation)

  • Greenhouse cultivation has been increasing for high quality and four season crop production in South Korea. For the cultivation in a greenhouse, maintaining adequate soil moisture at each crop growth stage is quite important for yield stability and quality while the behavior of moisture movement in the soil has complexity and adequate moisture conditions for crops are vary. Drip irrigation systems have been disseminated in the greenhouse cultivation due to advantages including irrigation convenience and efficiency without savvy consideration of the soil moisture redistribution. This study aims to evaluate soil moisture movement of drip irrigation according to the soil moisture uniformity assessment. Richards equation and finite difference scheme were adapted to simulate soil moisture behavior in soil. Soil container experiment was conducted and the model was validated using the data from the experiment. Two discharge rate (1 ${\ell}/hr$ and 2 ${\ell}/hr$) and three spaces between the emitters (10 cm, 20 cm, and 30 cm) were used for irrigation system evaluation. Christiansen uniformity coefficient was also calculated to assess soil moisture redistribution uniformity. The results would propose design guidelines for drip irrigation system installation in the greenhouse cultivation.

한국의 간척지에서 토양 문제와 농업 용수 관리 (Soil Problems and Agricultural Water Management of the Reclaimed Land in Korea)

  • 한국의 간척지에서 토양 문제와 농업 용수 관리에 대해 농촌진흥청과 농업기반공사 등에서 이루어진 연구를 통해 얻어진 결과를 토대로 하여 개관하였다. 한국토양분류와 조사에 의하면, 5개 토양목의 45개 토양통이 서남해안의 하해혼성 또는 해성 퇴적지에 분포하고 있었다. 염포, 문포, 하사, 광활, 포승통이 해안의 간석지에 연접한 하해혼성 퇴적지에 가장 많이 분포하고 있는 토양통들이었다. 염포 등 앞의 4개 토양통은 엔티솔이며, 포승통은 인셉티솔이었다. 포승통과 연접한 부용통 등은 알피솔이었다. 몰리솔인 명지통, 히스토솔인 용호통 등의 분포 면적은 적었다. 염류도 제어와 관리 문제는 높은 지하수위와 미사가 많은 간척지 토양에서 제염 과정에서 생성된 경운 반층에 의한 낮은 투수 속도와 밀접한 관련이 있다. 포장에서 염류의 평가에 있어서 GPS와 결합된 전자장 유도 EM38이 염류도와 포장 변이를 이해하는 데 유용하였다. 심경, 심토 파쇄, 암거에 의한 배수 개선 등은 경운 반층이 형성된 논에서 효과적이었다. 변량 시비와 같은 신기술은 비료를 절감하고 수질에 대한 농업 영향을 감축시킬 가능성이 있었다. 간척지에서 농업용수의 수질은 내륙 수자원의 수질보다 열악하였다. 작물 생육에 알맞은 수질과 함께 목표 수질 달성에 맞추어 갈 수 있는 작물 관리가 필요하였다.

토양 개량제 시용이 연초의 생육, 수량 및 품질에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Soil Conditioners on the Growth, Yield and Quality of Flue-cured Tobacco)

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the affect of soil conditioners and their application rates on the growth, Yield and quality of Flue-cured tobacco. Soil conditioners for this study were Montmorillonite arid Zeolite as clay mineral source and Rice hull and Sawdust as organic source. Their application rates were 500, 1000, 2000kg/10a. The growth of tobacco plants was promoted, compared with that of Non- treated plot (control) by Zeolite, Montmorillonite and Rice hull application but decreased by Sawdust application. During tobacco growing season soil moisture content, compared with control, was increased by Zeolite and Montmorillonite application but decreased by Rice hull and Sawdust application. In contrast to soil moisture content, soil temperature was higher in the Rice hull and Sawdust plot than in the plot of Zeolite and Montmorillonite. The treatment of Sawdust, compared with control, obviously accelerated the maturity of tobacco, increased reducing Sugar but decreased total alkaloids, nicotine and nitrogen content of cured leaves. The Sawdust Plot decreased the Yield (kg/10a) with significant difference by 1 %level but significantly increased leaf quality (Won/kg) and value (Won/10a) by 1%and 5 %level, respectively. The present application , ate of Nitrogen in Korea (12.5kg/10a) seems to be excessive for Flue-cured tobacco production.

토양(土壤)중 질산태질소(窒酸態窒素)의 행동(行動)과 지하수질(地下水質) (Behaviour of $NO_3-N$ in Soil and Groundwater Quality)

  • Nitrogen is an element required to meet optimal plant growth. However, when it was applied (as chemical fertilizer or animal waste) more than the demand of plant and managed it unreasonably can be accumulated in subsoil and leached from soil system. Nitrogen also can be act as an pollutant to soil and water through water contamination if its concentration exceed the critical level. The concentration and downward movement of nitrate in soil is influenced by cultural practices and soil properties. High level of nitrate nitrogen in drinking water is harzadrous for animal and human health, especially for infants and the restoration of the quality of groundwater is impossible by now. Therefore it is the only way to prevent from leaching of nitrate nitrogen to keep the quality of groundwater as vital water resource. The aims of the presentation of this review paper are to understand the relationship between agricultural practices and the concentration of nitrate nitrogen in groundwater and to suggest further informations for the rational management methods to reduce the leaching of nitrate nitrogen in soil.

바이오순환림의 저농도액비 시용에 따른 토양수 및 지하수 수질 영향 분석 (Effect of Low Concentration Liquid Manure application on Soil Water and Groundwater Quality in Bio-Circulation Experimental Forest)

  • Manure recycling as fertilizer is one of solutions for the environmental problem related with livestock manure treatment as well as the ocean dumping ban act prohibiting manure disposal to the ocean. For the manure disposal, forest area can be a candidate place because the area has a wide range of applicable sites. However, the manure application to the forest has a possibility of causing environmental impacts including water quality problems due to nutrient loading. Therefore it is necessary to investigate water quality impact from manure disposal to the forestry plantation. In this study, ground and soil water quality had been monitored in the bio-circulation experimental forest where low concentration liquid manure (LCLM) was applied. Soil and groundwater samples were collected and analyzed weekly from April to October in 2008 and 2009. The mean and variation of NO3-N concentration in soil water of LCLM treatment places showed higher concentration than the reference places declining during growing season. In the case of groundwater from monitoring well in the downstream of disposal site, the $NO_3$-N concentration was 3.59 mg/L in 2008 and 3.26 mg/L in 2009 in average showing higher concentration than the reference well although the concentration was not exceed the national drinking water standard. To investigate the source of nitrate, $\delta^{15}N$ isotope analysis was also implemented. Its result showed that the LCLM application could be the nitrate source requiring further long-term monitoring soil and water quality.

Olympic 주경기장 지반 상토층의 토양 물리성과 잔디 생육의 상관관계 (Correlation of Soil Physical Properties and Growth of Turfgrass on the Ground of Olympic-mainstadium)

  • 본 연구는 Olympic 주경기장 그라운드의 잔디 관리와 지반 구조 조사 및 잔디의 시각적 품질과 지반 경도와의 상관관계를 분석하였다. 또한 지반의 이.화학성 분석을 하여 잔디 구장의 조성과 관리 방향을 제시하는 것이 목적이다. Olympic 주경기장의 토양경도 분포는 답압이 집중되는 goal line 지역과 center circle 지역에서 높은 경도를 나타내었으며, 답압이 상대적으로 적은 end line 부근지역에서 낮은 경도를 나타내었다. 또한 토양 경도와 잔디 quality는 음의 상관관계를 나타내었고 토양의 경도가 높을수록 잔디의 quality에 악영향 미치는 것으로 분석되었다. 깊이별 토양 경도는 상토층 하부로 갈수록 높아졌으며 답압 정도는 지표면의 토양 경도를 변화시키고, 하부 6cm까지도 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 상토층 토양의 화학성은 인산이 2,000ppm 내외(기군치 100~300ppm)의 과대치를 제외하고 는 일반적 기준치에 부합되었다. 토양의 입도분포는 silt와 clay 함량이 USGA 잔디 상토층 토양 기준치(silt 5% 이하, clay 3% 이하)보다 높아 토양 경직을 가속화시키는 요인으로 작용하였다. Olympic 주경기장 잔디 그라운드는 초기 지반 공사시 정확한 시공이 되지 않은 점과 기술적 문제로 인한 하부 지반공사의 미비 등의 결점을 지니고 있다. 지반 경도는 잔디 생육에 밀접한 관계를 가지고 있으며 정상적 잔디생육을 위하여 재시공에 의한 근본적인 토양 경화의 문제점을 해결해야 할 것이다. 이러한 연구를 토대로 향후 건설될 잔디 경기장은 표준 시방에 맞게 설계, 시공되어 토양경직을 유발시키지 않아야 국제 규격에 맞는 잔디 그라운드를 건설할 수 있을 것이다.

Mapping Within-field Variability Using Airborne Imaging Systems: A Case Study from Missouri Precision Agriculture

  • This study investigated the use of airborne image data to provide estimates of within -field variability in soil properties and crop growth as an alternative to extensive field data collection. Hyperspectral and multispectral images were acquired in 2000, 2001, and 2002 for central Missouri experimental fields. Data were converted to reflectance using chemically-treated reference tarps with known reflectance levels. Geometric distortion of the hyperspectral pushbroom sensor images was corrected with a rubber sheeting transformation. Statistical analyses were used to relate image data to field-measured soil properties and crop characteristics. Results showed that this approach has potential; however, it is important to address a number of implementation issues to insure quality data and accurate interpretations.

Rapid Soil Quality Assessment for Sustainable Agricultural Systems at Songco, Lantapan, Bukidnon, Philippines

  • This study was conducted to determine some physical and chemical properties of the soil and their relationship to spectroscopic-based (visible range) analytical methods while evaluating soil organic matter fractions and soil quality in degraded and non-degraded soils in a wide range of environments. Soil samples were collected from the different landscape positions of cultivated and noncultivated soils, and the latter from the same landscape positions but with different vegetation, at Songco, Lantapan, Bukidnon. The physical and chemical properties of the soils were determined at the SPAL, CMU, Musuan, Bukidnon while the metagenomic properties were determined at the Laboratory of the University of Missourri, Missourri, USA. Bulk density and air dry soil strength values of the soils from the cultivated areas were generally higher than those of the uncultivated areas. Also, soils at the summit generally had lower bulk density and soil strength values than the other landscape positions. Moreover, soils planted to camote (Ipomoea batatas) had higher bulk density and soil strength values compared to soils grown to pepper under the trees. Exchangeable calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), and potassium (K) and cation exchange capacity (CEC) of the soils were generally higher in uncultivated areas than those of the cultivated areas. A similar trend was observed for the potassium permanganate ($KMnO_4$)-oxidizable organic C contents determined by spectroscopic method and the total C contents determined by the Walkley-Black method. The $KMnO_4$-oxidizable organic C contents determined by spectroscopic method and the total C contents determined by the Walkley-Black method were closely related ($r=0.631^{**}$). Hence, the former method shows promise in assessing soil quality as it is a rapid test, relatively low cost and can be distributed as a field kit either with a portable spectrometer or with a color chart.

농지연못습지의 수질 및 토양환경 분석 (The Analysis of Water and Soil Environment at Farm Pond Depression)

  • This study was conducted to understand the water and soil properties to propose the promotion of vegetation environment at farm pond depression. We selected 8 palustrine wetlands from agricultural area after consideration of human interference, surround land use, and size of area. Water quality analysis showed that the average SS, T-N, T-P were over the limit of agricultural water quality standard level at some sites. The cause for deterioration of water quality is supposed by the long-term stagnation of water in palustrine wetland. The recommended measures to improve water quality are as follows; improving water circulation by connecting with nearby natural water, preventing oxygen depletion by dredging deposit, lowering down T-N and T-P by removing autumn plants, preventing inflow of phosphorus in fertilizer ingredients which is the main cause for high T-P. The soil contamination of the surveyed area was about the same level of average heavy metal contents in soils from 2,010 paddy fields in Korea, which was much lower than soil contamination standards. As for soil texture, sand content was 40~90% and clay content was less than 20%. The content of silt and clay in soil from community of floating-leaved:submerged hydrophytes and community of emergent hydrophytes was higher that of soil from community of hygrophytes, and the content of sand in soil from community of hygrophytes was 10% higher than underwater soil. In terms of bulk density, the average was 0.24~0.96g/$cm^3$, which was quite low, because of high content of peat and organic matter in soil of the surveyed area. As for the average content of organic matter, community of floating-leaved:submerged hydrophytes was 18.25g/kg, community of emergent hydrophytes was 16.88g/kg, and community of hydrophytes was 25.63g/kg. The range of content of T-N in soil of community of floating-leaved;submerged hydrophytes was 0.022~0.307%, and that of community of emergent hydrophytes was 0.029~0.681% and that of community of hydrophytes was 0.088~0.325%. Apart from three sites in the surveyed area, most parts were over the standards or below the standard. After this study, we will conduct and discuss the relationship between vegetation characteristics and environments, which will be used of the best practical management and restoration of wetland.
