  • The performance of a cryptographic module is the most important thing to achieve a high performance VPN system which realizes information security by encrypting and decrypting all the communicating data packets. However the cryptographic operations require much computation power and software cryptographic systems reveal bad performance. Thus, it is strongly recommended to develop a VPN system employing hardware component. This paper introduces a case study of developing a PCI add-on card which supports several block cipher algorithms such as DES, 3DES, AES, and SEED. The performance of them was measured by embedding the card in a commercial VPN system.

  • Cloud computing provides computation, software, data access, and storage services that do not require end-user knowledge of the physical location and configuration of the system that delivers the services. Cloud computing providers have setup several data centers at different geographical locations over the Internet in order to optimally serve needs of their customers around the world. One of the fundamental challenges in geographically distributed clouds is to provide efficient algorithms for supporting inter-cloud data management and dissemination. In this paper, we propose a group quorum system (GQS)-based dissemination for improving the interoperability of inter-cloud in time-critical event dissemination service, such as computing policy updating, message sharing, event notification and so forth. The proposed GQS-based method organizes these distributed clouds into a group quorum ring overlay to support a constant event dissemination latency. Our numerical results show that the GQS-based method improves the efficiency as compared with Chord-based and Plume methods.

  • In massive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) systems, linear channel estimation algorithms are widely applied owing to their simple structures. However, they may cause pilot contamination, which affects the subsequent data detection performance. Therefore, herein, for an uplink multicell massive multiuser MIMO system, we consider using an alternating projection (AP) for channel estimation to eliminate the effect of pilot contamination and improve the performance of data detection in terms of the bit error rates as well. Even though the AP is nonlinear, it iteratively searches the best solution in only one dimension, and the computational complexity is thus modest. We have analyzed the mean square error with respect to the signal-to-interference ratios for both the cooperative and non-cooperative multicell scenarios. From the simulation results, we observed that the channel estimation results via the AP benefit the following signal detection more than that via the least squares for both the cooperative and non-cooperative multicell scenarios.

  • Recently PWM invertor is broadly used for control of induction motor. The invertor is able to generate sin wave current from high speed switching power device such as IGBT. However the invertor is disturbed by dead time inevitably needed to prevent a short of the DC link voltage, and the dead time mainly causes distortions of the output current. In this Paper the dead time compensation method which corrects the voltage error from dead time, and Min Max algorithm enlarging the operating voltage of PWM were Proposed. This method can be implemented by software programming without any additional hardware circuit. The proposed algorithms were implemented by DSP(TMS320C31, 40MHz) and FPGA(QL2007, Quick Logic) described in VHDL. and applied to 3 phase induction motor(2.2 KW) to show the superior performance

  • The complexity of image compression algorithms has increased in order to improve image compression efficiency. One way to resolve high computational complexity is parallel processing. However, entropy coding, which is lossless compression, does not fit into the parallel processing form because of the correlation between consecutive symbols. This paper proposes a new application-specific instruction set processor (ASIP) platform by adding new context-adaptive binary arithmetic coding (CABAC) instructions to the existing platform to quickly process a variety of entropy coding. The newly added instructions work without conflicts with all other existing instructions of the platform, providing the flexibility to handle many coding standards with fast processing speeds. CABAC software is implemented for High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) and the performance of the proposed ASIP platform was verified with a field programmable gate array simulation.

  • It is presented in this paper that the static output feedback (SOF) pole-assignment problem of some linear time-invariant systems can be completely resolved by parametrization in real Grassmann space. For the real Grassmannian parametrization, the so-called Plucker matrix is utilized as a linear matrix formula formulated from the SOF variable's coefficients of a characteristic polynomial constrained in Grassmann space. It is found that the exact SOF pole assignability is determined by the linear independency of columns of Plucker sub-matrix and by full-rank of that sub-matrix. It is also presented that previous diverse pole-assignment methods and various computation algorithms of the real SOF gains for 2-input, 2-output, 4th order systems are unified in a deterministic way within this real Grassmannian parametrization method.

  • The purpose of this paper is to monitor ECU's self-diagnostic signal without wire. In order to measure the ECU's self-diagnostic signal, the interfaced circuit is developed to communicate ECU with a designed display terminal according to the ISO, SAE regulation of communication protocol standard. An 80C196KC processor is used for communicating ECU's self-diagnostic signal and communication data are sent to PDA monitoring system that is based on the Windows CE. Software on PDA is developed to monitor the ECU's self-diagnostic signal in which RS232 port is programmed by half duplex method. The algorithms for measuring the ECU's self-diagnostic signals are verified to mo...

  • In this paper, a fuel minimizing closed loop explicit inertial guidance algorithm for the orbit injection of a rocket is developed. In this formulation, the fuel burning rate and magnitude of thrust are assumed constant, and the motion of a rocket is assumed to be subject to the average inverse-square gravity, but with negligible atmospheric effects. The optimum thrust angle for obtaining the given velocity vector in the shortest time with minimizing fuel consumption is first determined, and then the additive thrust angle for targeting the final position vectors is determined by using Pontryagin's Maximum Principle. To establish the real time processing, many algorithms of the onboard guidance software are simplified. Simulations for the explicit guidance algorithm, for the 2nd-stage flight of the N-1 rocket, are carried out. The results show that the guidance algorithm works well in the presence of the maximum .+-.10 % initial velocity and altitude error. The effects of the guidance cycle time is also examined.

  • An algorithm for the implementation of R2 MFC digital receiver is evaluated using simulated data. The algorithms satisfy the CCITT recommendations. In this paper, our aim is to provide more efficient way of decoding an input in PCM format and detecting the frequency components. The digital signal processor chip (S2811) is suggested to meet these aims Through the software simulation using an Altair 8800b microcomputer, the proposed receiver is shown to have tolerable performance in spite of a given noise, frequency drift, and twist.

  • In this paper, we present a vectorization algorithm for finding a vector image from a raster image of the land registered map which is used as the base map for various applications, and an automatic region creation algorithm for generating every re¬gion automatically from the vector image. We describe an ARM (automatic geographical entity recognition and modeling software) which carries out the recognition and process¬ing of geographical entities automatically using those algorithms.
