The objective of this study was to improve physical and mechanical properties of soft-inner part of oil palm trunk (S-OPT) after impregnation with phenol formaldehyde (PF) resin and densification by close system compression (CSC) method. Effect of different methods of PF resin impregnation (i.e., no vacuum-pressure, vacuum, and vacuum-pressure) was evaluated. The results showed that PF resin impregnation and CSC significantly improved the physical and mechanical properties of S-OPT up to: (1) 176% in density; (2) 309% in modulus of rupture (MOR); (3) 287% modulus of elasticity (MOE); and (4) 191% in the compressive strength. Physical and mechanical properties of S-OPT showed their best performances when PF resin impregnated with vacuum-pressure method as shown by higher weight gain, density, MOR, MOE, compressive strength, and lower recovery of set due to better penetration of PF resin into S-OPT. Combining PF resin impregnation and densification by CSC method could be a good method to improve physical and mechanical properties of S-OPT.

The design of sand mat should be reviewed by the behaviour of excess pore pressure which is obtained by combining characteristics of soft ground with the permeability of sand mat. In this paper, in order to investigate the distribution of hydraulic gradient of sand mat, a banking model test was performed using dredged sand as materials of sand mat, and these results were compared by the numerical analysis results utilizing Terzaghi's consolidation equation. The results show that the pore pressure was influenced by the settlement increasing in the central area of sand mat as the height of embankment increases, and uprising speed of excess pore pressure due to residing water pressure is delayed compared with the results of numerical analysis. Finally, the construction of sand mat should be spreaded to reduce the increased hydraulic gradient at the central area of embankment.
Some sensory properties of synthetic sweeteners are limiting factors for use in low calorie foods of soft drinks. By combining synthetic sweeteners(Neohesperidin dihydrochacone(NHDC), stevioside) with sucrose, sorbitol or xylitol, these limitations can be overcome. Using trained taste panelists and magnitude estimation methods, synergistic effects were investigated in binary sweetener mixtures, The results showed that synergism, as much as 28% to 69%,was noted at all concentration in xylitol-stevioside, NHDC-stevioside mixtures. Synergistic effects were found only at high concentration levels in mixtures of sucrose-NHDC, sucrose-stevioside, and sorbitol-stevioside, ranging from 11% to 22%.By taking advantage of synergistic effects, ginseng tea and orange flavored beverages, sweetened with either xylitol-stevioside of NHDC-stevioside, were prepared and the sensory quality was compared with that of sucrose containing beverages. It was found that sensory characteristics were judged to be very similar for all formulations. The result suggests the possibility of using of using these sweetener mixtures as sugar substitutes in ginseng tea and orange drink.
A 1.4 kg adult great homed owl was presented to the University of Missouri-Columbia Veterinary Teaching Hospital after being found by the side of the highway. Physical examination revealed soft tissue injuries to the left wing and leg, and good body condition (body score 4/5). The radiographs revealed comminuted fracture of the diaphysis of the left tibiotarsus (severe) and ulna (mild). Closed reduction of the fracture was performed to the left tibiotarsus and ulna. System combining an intramedually (IM) Kirschner pin, IM Kirschner pin for external skeletal fixation, and polymethylmethacrylate was used for fracture repair. At 13 weeks, radiographs revealed that bridging callus was well formed over cortices of the fracture area. No physical, behavioral, or other assessable impairment was found during the rehabilitation period.
As an effort to clarify the ecosystem of Osaka Bay, a semi-enclosed coastal area under the influence of stratification, a three-dimensional water quality model with combination of the baroclinic flow model and primitive eco-system model was constructed. The proposed model succeeded in simulating the time-depending flow and density structure and the baroclinic residual currents in Osaka Bay. In present study, we tried to improve the model by taking account of the benthic-pelagic interaction and exchange of nutrients between sea bottom sediments and overlaying water. On vertical structure, the model consists of 13 layers of water and eight layers of sediments. Long-term prediction of water quality was conducted from 1964 to 1985. This period is characterized by rapid water pollution and its decrease by the cutoff reduction of COD and P flowed into Osaka Bay. By combining the sediment model into original model, the numerical model was confirmed to shows more reasonable results in simulating the water quality in Osaka Bay.
As one of the effective therapies for musculoskeletal diseases, orthopedic manual physical therapy has been watched with keen interest. In Korea, orthopedic manual physical therapy has been widely spread and applied in the field of clinical medicine since the mid-nineties. Since then, the clinical efficacy of orthopedic manual physical therapy has been approved, and orthopedic manual physical therapy has been gradually spread in the filed of clinical medicine. However, it should be noted that clinically available therapies are not well recognized. Therefore, this study was conducted to allude diagnostic and therapeutic characteristics of these therapies including deep tissue massage, manual therapy, Cyriaxs method combining manual reduction and chemotherapy, Kaltenborn-Evjenth method based on concave-convex rule for joint and soft tissue, Maitlands method based on patients sign and symptom, stress due to the posture, intraarticualr disturbance and Mckenzies method for pain due to the dysfunction.

Iterative decision feedback equalizer (IDFE) is a recursive equalization technique that can help to achieve an additional performance gain for the system by combining iterative channel decoding and interference cancellation. In a single carrier-based system, the intersymbol interference (ISI) is a critical problem that must be resolved since it causes frequency selective fading. Based on the idea of sharing the estimated information in the process of iteration, IDFE is considered as an efficient solution to improve the robustness of the system performance on the ISI channel. In this paper, the IDFE is applied on single carrier FDMA (SC-FDMA) system to evaluate the performance under ISI channel. The simulation results illustrate that IDFE helps to improve the performance of the SC-FDMA system, especially with long delay spread channels.

This paper proposes an opportunistic reporting-based sensing-reporting-throughput optimization scheme that maximizes the spectral efficiency of secondary users (SUs) in cooperative cognitive radio networks with a soft combining rule. The performance of cooperative spectrum sensing depends on the sensing time, the reporting time of transmitting sensing results, and the fusion scheme. While longer sensing time and reporting time improve the sensing performance, this shortens the allowable data transmission time, which in turn degrades the spectral efficiency of SUs. The proposed scheme adopts an opportunistic reporting scheme to restrain the reporting overhead and it jointly controls the sensing-reporting overhead in order to increase the spectral efficiency of SUs. We show that there is a trade-off between the spectral efficiency of SUs and the overheads of cooperative spectrum sensing. The numerical results demonstrate that the proposed scheme significantly outperforms the conventional sensing-throughput optimization schemes when there are many SUs. Moreover, the numerical results show that the sensing-reporting time should be jointly optimized in order to maximize the spectral efficiency of SUs.
Seven axis modular type pneumatic manipulator is composed of electro-pneumatic automation system which contributes to factory automation by performing loading & unloading process successively which is simple routine work of dealing item of machine tool, catapult, assembly machine, welding machine and so on. In this study, we obtained soft and quick movement in a large space and good reliability motion of various function by combining several actuators which perform rotation movement as well as linear movement at the same time. Gripper which apply to rotary sensor transmitted a structure to demanded position. This development item of 5kgf load prevent stick-slip phenomena of stroke end by designing high cushion internal. We develope flexible manipulator which conforms to demand of user by applying multiple sequence program.
A novel approach for predicting lateral displacement caused by pile installation in anisotropic clay is presented, on the basis of the cylindrical and spherical cavities expansion theory. The K0-based modified Cam-clay (K0-MCC) model is adopted for the K0-consolidated clay and the process of pile installation is taken as the cavity expansion problem in undrained condition. The radial displacement of plastic region is obtained by combining the cavity wall boundary and the elastic-plastic (EP) boundary conditions. The predicted equations of lateral displacement during single pile and multi-pile installation are proposed, and the hydraulic fracture problem in the vicinity of the pile tip is investigated. The comparison between the lateral displacement obtained from the presented approach and the measured data from Chai et al. (2005) is carried out and shows a good agreement. It is suggested that the presented approach is a useful tool for the design of soft subsoil improvement resulting from the pile installation.
