This study was conducted to investigate the factors affecting the social anxiety in nursing students. A total of 227 nursing students participated in the study. Data were analyzed by frequencies, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple stepwise regression with SPSS WIN 18.0. The mean scores for problem solving ability and social anxiety were at the intermediate level. Problem solving ability negatively correlated with social anxiety. The significant predictors of social anxiety included cognitive reaction within the seven problem solving ability subscales and perceived interpersonal relationship. The regression model explained 22.6% of social anxiety. As a result, to decrease social anxiety in nursing students, nursing educators should develop educational intervention programs to change cognitive distortions presented in unfamiliar social situations and improve interpersonal relationships ability.

Objective : The present study investigated the interpretation bias and expectation and judgemental bias of performance in socially anxious children. Method : Children with high social anxiety (n=18) and low social anxiety (n=16) were recruited through self-report and peer nomination, Participants performed three tasks to assess for cognitive bias. The first task measured interpretation of ambiguous social situations. The second task measured expectations regarding performance in a three minute impromptu speech. The third task assessed for judgemental bias via comparison between post-speech self rating and observer rating. Result : Children with high social anxiety did not differ significantly from low social anxiety children on the dependent measures assessing bias in interpretation, expectation and judgement. However, a significant difference was found in the judges' rating of children's performances on the speech task, with high social anxiety children obtaining significantly lower scores compared to low social anxiety children. Conclusion : The role of cognitive biases in the development and maintenance of social anxiety in children was discussed.
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to identify levels of anxiety, stress hormone, lymphocytes, and neutrophils of the nursing students before an examination and to examine effects of social support on those variables related to taking examinations. Methods: Thirty eight healthy nursing students participated. They completed the questionnaire including state anxiety, test anxiety (VAS scale) and social support two weeks before the exam and again just before the exam. Simultaneously, a venous sample for ACTH, cortisol, lymphocytes & neutrophils count was drawn by a trained nurse. Descriptive statistics, paired t-test, student t-test, and Pearson's correlation with SPSS/WIN 14.0 were used to analyze the data. Results: Test anxiety scores and cortisol level on the exam day showed a significant increment compared with those on the non-exam day. The participants with higher levels of total social support scores showed significantly lower state anxiety on the exam day than those with lower levels of total social support scores. Conclusion: These data indicate a possible alteration in cortisol responsiveness to academic stress in nursing students. Social support would play an important role in modulation of academic stress.
Purpose: This study aimed to examine the relationships among social support(family support, medical team support), hope, anxiety, and depression in patients with hematologic cancers before they received hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT) to obtain baseline data for developing a nursing intervention. Methods: The participants were 70 adult patients expecting to receive HSCT from 5 university hospitals in Seoul, Gyeonggi-do, and Jeollanam-do regions. A cross-sectional survey was done using standardized instruments for social support (Tae's Family Support Scale and Professional Medical Support Scale), hope (Kim & Lee Hope Scale), anxiety and depression (Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale). The data were analyzed by SPSS/WIN 19.0 program using frequency, percentage, item mean and standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, and Pearson's correlation coefficient. Results: Hope was significantly correlated with social support (r=.40, p=.001), anxiety (r=-.40, p<.001) and depression (r=-.58, p<.001). Anxiety was correlated with depression (r=.54, p<.001). Conclusion: The findings of this study show greater social support for patients who expect to receive HSCT is significantly correlated to a higher level of hope, as well as low levels of anxiety and depression. In nursing practice, clinical nurses may develop a nursing intervention to reinforce social support and hope, as well as reduce anxiety and depression for patients preparing for HSCT.
Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate effects of depression and anxiety on treatment response of social skills training in adolescents with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Methods : A total of 107 teenagers that participated in the Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills (PEERS$^{(R)}$) between 2011 and 2015 were analyzed using linear regression. Outcome measures used were the Korean version of Social Responsiveness Scale (SRS), the Test of Adolescent Social Skills Knowledge-Revised (TASSK-R), and the Korean version of Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (K-ADOS). Depression and anxiety were assessed by the Korean version of Child Depression Inventory (CDI), the Korean version of State and Trait Anxiety Inventory for Children (STAIC), and the Korean version of Child Behavior Checklist (K-CBCL). Results : As a result, depressive symptoms measured by CDI (p<0.05) and anxiety symptoms measured by STAIC (p<0.05) had significant influence on score change of social interaction domain of ADOS. It remained significant even after the baseline score was adjusted as covariates (p<0.05). Conclusion : We observed that pre-treatment anxiety and depressive symptoms of teenagers had significant effects on the treatment outcome of PEERS$^{(R)}$, especially in terms of face-to-face social interaction.

Purpose: This study aimed to identify a relationship between the communication competence and social anxiety in nursing students. Methods: With a cross-sectional survey, a convenience sampling of 303 nursing students was taken from P-university in Y-city. The instrument for the study was a questionnaire that is consisted of the general characteristics, an Interaction Anxiousness Scale (IAS) and a Global Interpersonal Communication Competence Scale (GICC). Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Kruskal-Wallis, Pearson's correlation coefficients and stepwise multiple regression with SPSS version 21.0. Results: The mean score of the IAS was $41.89{\pm}8.74$ and the GICC was $3.51{\pm}0.34$. Communication competence significantly differed by the satisfaction of major (F=10.86, p<.001). In addition, the satisfaction of interpersonal relationships was significantly different in both communication competence (F=17.52, p<.001) and social anxiety (F=23.85, p<.001). Social anxiety had a negative correlation with communication competence (r=-.48, p<.001). Social anxiety accounted for 55.3% of the variance -social relaxation (${\beta}$=-.62), assertiveness (${\beta}$=-.18), interaction management (${\beta}$=.14) and efficiency (${\beta}$=-.13)- of communication competence's subcategories. Conclusion: It was found that communication competence has an influence on social anxiety. Therefore, education programs are needed to promote communication competence for a decline of social anxiety in nursing students.
The main objectives of this study are to examine the effects of social capital and anxiety on the depression of the adolescent and to examine the moderating effect of self-awareness on the relationship between social capital and depression, and anxiety and depression. To do this, we analyzed the data obtained from Social and Psychological Anxiety Survey of Korean Society in 2015. The subject is 4,724 adolescent aged 14-18 years. To investigate the moderating effects of variable, we conducted a hierarchial regression analysis and confirmed the explanatory force change. As a result of that, first, social capital, anxiety and self-awareness all had a direct effects on depression. This results show that the better social capital, the lower anxiety, and the higher self-awareness is, the lower depression is. Second, it was found that self-awareness was moderating variable in the relationship of social capital and depression, and the relationship of anxiety and depression. Based on this results, this study has proposed the implications and limitations of the study and suggestions for further study.
This study examined effects of experience of nurses' incivility and social anxiety on emotional labor in nursing students during clinical practice. The participants were 161 nursing students in universities located in G province and C province. Data were collected from November 19 to December 15, 2018 through self reported structured questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and stepwise regression. Experience of nurses' incivility correlated positively with social anxiety and emotional labor. Social anxiety was positively correlated with emotional labor. Participants' experience of incivility and social anxiety explained 21.9% of variance in emotional labor among nursing students. The findings indicate that experience of nurses' incivility and social anxiety are important factors to be considered in working to reduce emotional labor. Therefore, systematic programs to effectively manage and response the incivility problems in clinical practice and reduce social anxiety level should be developed.

The purposes of this study were to find 1) the realities of social anxiety and perception of various kinds of social problems that exists in Korean society as well as the perception on the events that causes the social anxiety, 2) to see the difference of perceived level of social anxiety through variables of social demography and difference of perception on Korean society. The sample was distributed according to population size distinguishing the nation to 6 regions. The data of 1,375 adult respondents were analysed. The results are as follows. First of all, respondents mentioned that the most immediate problem to be solved in Korean society was financial anxiety, and the most desirable state of society was when the society is financially stabled. Single question was measured about social anxiety of Korean society and scored 6.84 from full marks of 10, showing difference in variables for instance sex, age, and subjective S.E.S. where women, aged under 20, and perceived low class group showed the highest rate of social anxiety. However, there weren't any difference found in social anxiety of the variables like presence of religion, educational background, residence, and monthly average household income. Also, there were differences in level of social anxiety according to the difference of perception of Korean society. Higher the perceived unpredictability, uncontrollability, and unmovability to the upper class, unfairness, and uncertainty, unreliability of the Korean society, higher the social anxiety. And the lower the perceived chance of success of reformation, higher the social anxiety. It was also found that the perceived social anxiety is influenced by social accidents and phenomenon as unemployment, economic depression, and the gap between rich and poor as well as the increase of crime through effluence of personal information. Finally the limitations and implications of this study were discussed.
This study investigated the moderating effects of the number of friends and quality of friendship on the associations between withdrawal and loneliness as well as withdrawal and social anxiety. The subjects were 678 of fifth and sixth grade primary school children recruited from a public school in Bucheon city. A peer nomination inventory was used to assess withdrawal. Children were given a classroom roster and asked to nominate three classmates who fit each description. Children reported the quality of their friendships using the Friendship Quality Scale. Each child was asked to indicate his or her one best friend and rate how accurately a sentence describe done of their best friends on the scale. In addition, children completed questionnaires to assess the loneliness and social anxiety. The results revealed that the association between withdrawal and loneliness was not significant for children who had the large number of friends and high quality friendship. The association between withdrawal and social anxiety was stronger for the children who had the lower levels of friendship quality. However, there was no moderating effect of the number of friends on the association between withdrawal and social anxiety. These results imply that the large number of friends and high quality friendships could be protective factors for children who are withdrawn.
