A Validation Study of the Abbreviated Self-Rated Korean Version of MINI (MINI Patient Health Survey) (한국판 단축된 자기보고형 MINI (MINI 정신건강 평가)의 타당도 연구)

  • Objectives : To investigate the validity of an abbreviated self-rated Korean version of MINI (Mini International Neuropsychiatric Interview) patient health survey which screening social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and major depressive disorder. Methods : 115 subjects completed MINI and MINI patient health survey. The validity of MINI patient health survey was assessed by whether the results from MINI patient health survey were compatible with the results from MINI or not. The Cohen's kappa value, specificity, sensitivity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value was calculated for this purpose. Results : The Kappa values of social anxiety disorder (0.60), panic disorder (0.49), generalized anxiety disorder (0.60) and major depressive disorder without other co-morbid disorder (0.59) were at least moderate in strength of agreement. Conclusion : The abbreviated self-rated Korean version of MINI patient health survey has the moderate to good validity in social anxiety disorder, panic disorder, generalized anxiety disorder, and major depressive disorder without other co-morbid disorders. Our result suggests that this instrument might be useful for screening above 4 disorders if it is used under careful supervision of experienced clinicians.

The Effect of Social Anxiety on Fake News Acceptance Attitude : Focused on the Use Degree of SNS (사회불안감이 가짜뉴스 수용태도에 미치는 영향 : SNS 이용정도를 중심으로)

  • Social anxiety continues due to the emergence and spread of covid-19 infections. In this situation, false information related to the covid-19 infection is distributed through SNS in the form of fake news, which is a stumbling block to overcoming the national crisis. This study tried to present a theoretical basis for the establishment of policies for the regulation and eradication of fake news circulated through SNS by examining the effect of social anxiety on the fake news acceptance attitude by focusing on the use degree of SNS. For this study, a survey of 380 university students in the Seoul metropolitan area was conducted, and 336 data collected among them were analyzed as SPSS 25.0 and AMOS 23.0. According to the analysis results, social anxiety has a positive effect on the fake news acceptance attitude and the use degree of SNS, also the use degree of SNS has a positive effect on the fake news acceptance attitude. In addition, social anxiety has been confirmed to have a positive effect on fake news acceptance attitude through the use degree of SNS. These results empirically confirm the relationship between social anxiety, fake news acceptance attitude, and the use degree of SNS.

The Effect of Emotional Clarity on Social Interaction Anxiety among Senior Citizens: The Mediating Role of Self-Esteem and Self-Efficacy (노년기 정서인식명확성이 사회적 상호작용 불안에 미치는 영향: 자존감과 자기효능감의 매개효과)

  • This study aims to examine whether emotional clarity predicts low levels of social interaction anxiety among senior citizens and to verify whether self-esteem and self-efficacy play a critical role as mediators between them. An online survey measuring emotional clarity, social interaction anxiety, self-esteem, and self-efficacy was conducted with 217 Korean senior citizens. The analysis revealed that emotional clarity in old age predicted lower social interaction anxiety. Besides, self-esteem mediated the relationship between emotional clarity and social interaction anxiety, while self-efficacy did not produce consistent results. That is, recognizing one's emotions increases one's self-esteem, which reduces social interaction anxiety, but this mediating effect could not be confirmed through self-efficacy. This result emphasizes that recognizing one's emotions in old age is an important factor in facilitating interaction with others, and shows that individuals can be comfortable in relational situations because emotional clarity increases one's self-esteem. Finally, the implications of this study and the future direction of this research area were discussed.

A Path Analysis on the Effect of Anxiety and Depression on Health-related Quality of Life of Middle aged Women (중년 여성의 불안과 우울이 삶의 질에 미치는 영향에 대한 경로분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of anxiety and depression on health-related QOL(Quality of Life) of middle aged women and to test hypothetical model of QOL. This study is a pathway analysis study using 1692 middle aged women whose age range is between 40 and 64. This study was performed as secondary analysis using the data from the 2015 Korean Social Psychological Anxiety Examination Survey. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, correlation analysis and pathway analysis. As a result, Stress, social support, aged preparation, self-esteem, anxiety, depression and QOL showed significant correlation. Anxiety was directly affected by stress(.21, p=.009) and social support(-.05, p=.046). Depression was directly affected by stress(.28, p=.016), social support(-.10, p=.008) and self-esteem(-.38, p=.039). Both anxiety(-.16, pp=.009) and depression(-.17, p=.011) had effect on QOL but depression was mediated by anxiety in affecting to QOL. Anxiety and depression of middle aged women affect to QOL and QOL is affected by depression via anxiety. It suggests that it needs to provide nursing intervention for mental health such as anxiety and depression for QOL of middle aged women.

Perceived Social Support and Internalizing Problems of Children from Divorced and Non-divorced Families (부모의 이혼여부 및 아동의 연령에 따른 아동의 사회적 지지 지각과 내면화 문제)

  • This study identified which aspects of perceived social support influence children's internalizing problems. The participants were 91 children from divorced families and 87 children from non-divorced families. They completed a questionnaire assessing the level of perceived social support and their teacher rated their internalizing problems(withdrawal, depression/anxiety) on K-CBCL scale. Sixth graders from non-divorced families perceived evaluative support higher than sixth graders from divorced families. In withdrawal, third graders from divorced families were rated higher than preschooler and sixth graders by their teacher. In depression/anxiety, third graders from divorced families were rated higher than sixth graders by their teacher. Internalizing problems of children from divorced families were affected by their perceived emotional support. Namely, children from divorced families who perceived less emotional support experienced more withdrawal and depression/anxiety.

Functional Connectivity with Regions Related to Emotional Regulation is Altered in Emotional Laborers

  • Emotional labor, characterized by a dysfunctional type of emotional regulation called surface acting, has detrimental psychological consequences on employees, including depression and social anxiety. Because such disorders exhibit psychological characteristics manifested through brain activation, previous studies have succeeded in distinguishing individuals with depression and social anxiety from healthy controls using their functional connectivity characteristics. However, it has not been established whether the functional connectivity characteristics associated with emotional labor are distinguishable. Thus, we obtained resting-state fMRI data from participants in the emotion labor (EL) group and control (CTRL) group, and we subjected their whole-brain functional connectivity matrices to a linear support vector machine classifier. Our analysis revealed that the EL and CTRL groups could be successfully distinguished on the basis of individuals' connectivity patterns, and confidence in the classification was correlated with the scores on the depression and social anxiety scales. These results are expected to provide insight on the neurobiological characteristics of emotional labor and enable the sorting of employees undergoing adverse emotional labor utilizing neurobiological observations.

Mood and Emotional Changes After PEERS® Program in Parents of Young Adults With Autism Spectrum Disorder

  • Objectives: This study examined the changes in anxiety and depressive symptoms in the parents of Korean adults with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) after participating in the Korean version of the Program for the Education and Enrichment of Relational Skills for Young Adults (PEERS® -YA-K). Methods: Forty-six parents were enrolled (mean age 54.7 years; 22 fathers and 24 mothers), of whom 27 participated in the PEERS® - YA-K as social coaches. Participants completed self-report scales, including the Test of Young Adult Social Skills Knowledge (TYASSK), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI), and Symptom Check-List-90-R (SCL-90-R). The scales were administered three times: before and after the 16-week program and 4 months after the program ended. Differences between participant variables at pretreatment, post-treatment, and follow-up were analyzed using paired-sample t-tests. Results: Participants showed a significant improvement in their social skills knowledge (TYASSK) (p<0.01). There was a significant improvement in the BAI and BDI scores of parents with severe depressive and anxiety symptoms at the baseline (p<0.05). Paternal paranoia and maternal hostility results also significantly improved on the SCL-90-R. Conclusion: This study suggests that PEERS® -YA-K can reduce parental anxiety and depressive symptoms. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first to compare the degree of depression and anxiety after PEERS® -YA-K in parents of adults with ASD.

Model Predicting Irritable Bowel Syndrome Severity in University Students (대학생의 과민대장증후군 중증도 예측모형)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to build and verify a structural model that could predict the severity of irritable bowel syndrome in university students. Methods: Participants were 205 students enrolled in college with irritable bowel syndrome using the irritable bowel syndrome module of the ROME IV Adult Questionnaire. The data were collected using online questionnaires in AprilMay 2019. The data were analyzed using the SPSS WIN 25.0 and AMOS 20.0 programs. Results: 1) The symptom severity that participants experienced were mild (14.6%), moderate (45.4%), and severe (40%). 2) Fit indices of the model were x2= 79.66 (df = 52, p= .009), CFI= .94, TLI= .96, RMSEA= .05, RMR= 1.59, GFI= .94, and TLI= .96.3). The severity of irritable bowel syndrome was influenced directly by anxiety and sleep, and indirectly by family history, perfectionism, social support, coping, and stress. The severity of irritable bowel syndrome was indirectly affected by the following: family history through anxiety; perfectionism through stress, anxiety, and sleep; social support through coping, stress, anxiety, and sleep; coping through stress and anxiety; and stress through anxiety and sleep. Conclusion: Based on the results of this study, a nursing intervention is needed to reduce the anxiety and stress and improve the quality of sleep to improve the health of the college students and manage the symptoms of patients with irritable bowel syndrome.

A Meta Analysis on Variables related to Death Anxiety of Elderly in Korea (한국 노인의 죽음불안과 관련된 변인의 메타분석)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to provide basic data by surveying the literature for the past fifteen years (2001-2015). The focus of the search was death anxiety among the elderly. Methods: Sixty-two published works including graduate theses were selected for the Meta-analysis. Results: Study results showed that variables related to familial factors were the most often cited in the review of the manuscripts as relevant to death anxiety among the elderly. Specifically family support was most important. The other variables reported in the literature review were classified into four other groupings: social, physical, psychological, and demographics. The significant variable in the social grouping was religious activities, health promotion in the physical grouping and ego integrity in the psychological group. Conclusion: This study could provide effect sizes of variables based on materials, which are needed to make an intervention program that is related to death anxiety of the elderly. Since this study identified major variables as significant to death anxiety, several distinctions within these variables can be further studied as these relate to death anxiety.

The Effect of Cultural Physical Education's Enjoyment Factor on Happiness and Social Physique anxiety (교양체육 수업의 재미요인이 행복감과 사회적 체형불안에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose of this study was to reveal the relationship between Cultural physical Education's Enjoyment Factor and Happiness, social physique anxiety via structural equation model. For the research object of this study 380 students, taking a cultural physical education class in Kyungki-Incheon district, have been selected. Statistics processing was carried out through PASW 18.0 and AMOS 18.0. The following results were obtained by analysis of frequency, confirmatory factor analysis, correlation analysis, structural equation model analysis to serve it's purpose. First, perceived enjoyment factor of cultural physical education student had positive(+) correlation with happiness. Sencond, perceived happiness of cultural physical education student had negative(-) correlation with social physique anxiety. Third, cultural physical education student's happiness has mediating effects as a buffer between class enjoyment factor and social physique anxiety.
