  • In this paper, RCF(Resistive Companion Form) analysis method which is used to analyze small signal stability problems of non-continuous systems including switching device. The RCF analysis method are applied to the power systems with the thyristor controled FACTS equipments such as TCSC. As a result of simulation, the RCF method is very powerful to calculate the oscillation modes exactly after the switching operations, and useful to analyze the small signal stability of power systems with switching devices such as FACTS equipments. As an applicable example of the RCF method in power system, the one machine infinite bus system including TCSC at generator terminal bus is investigated and the results proved that variations of oscillation modes after periodic switching operations of TCSC can be calculated exactly.

  • This paper presents a novel approach based on eigenvalue perturbation of augmented matrix(AMEP) to estimate the eigenvalue for variation of controller parameter. AMEP is a useful tool in the analysis and design of large scale power systems containing many different types of exciters, governors and stabilizers. Also, it can be used to find possible sources of instability and to determine the most sensitivity parameters for low frequency oscillation modes. This paper describes the application results of AMEP algorithm with respect to all controller parameter of KEPCO systems. Simulation results for interarea and local mode show that the proposed AMEP algorithm can be used for turning controller parameter, and verifying system data and linear model.

  • In this paper, eigenvalue perturbation theory and its applications for the augmented system matrix are described. This theory is quite useful in the cases where any change in a system parameter results in signifiant changes to most of the elements of the augmented matrix or where the forming of sensitivity matrix so complicate. And AMEP(augmented matrix eigenvalue perturbation) for the excitation system parameters are computed for analysis of small signal stability of KEPCO 215-machine 791-bus system.

  • It is the most important in small signal stability analysis of large scale Power systems to compute only the dominant eigenvalues selectively with numerical stability and efficiency. In this Paper evoluted linear analysis program, transformed state matrix using Inverse transformation with complex shift and then Hessenberg process and iterative scheme are used to accelerate Hessenberg process, can calculate dominant eigenvalues. In this Paper, The accuracy of this Program has been validated against 4-machines 11-bus system and New England 10-machines 39-bus system. Also applied to KEPCO system - about 791-bus 250-machines 2500-branches, got 2568 order state matrix, and calculated two dominant modes. This analysis result equaled to result of EPRI's SSSP program to use commonly, and calculating time is faster.

  • This paper represents how to reduce the computer time in small signal stability analysis by selecting the dominant oscillation modes with frequency of 0.5 to 1.2 Hz using the clustering technique. Clustering technique links the buses which are expected to be similar with zero-impedance lines and the voltage variations of these buses are regarded to be identical. The computer time was reduced remarkably with this technique and the effect of clustering will be powerful in the analysis of large-scale power systems.

The method is based on the computation of the transition matrix over a specified time interval that corresponds to one cycle operation of the system The method is applicable to any system with or without nonlinear elements. An applicable example of RCF method is presented and the eigenvalues are compared with those of the conventional state space method to show the exactness of the computed eigenvalues of the new method. Also, the variations of oscillation modes which were caused by the switching operation can be analyzed exactly using RCF method.

  • The problem of small-signal stability is usually one of insufficient damping of system oscillations. The use of power system stabilizers to control generator excitation system os the most cost effective method of enhancing the small-signal stability of power system. This paper presents the fuzzy type stabilizing controller to damp out the sustained oscillation, which is observed in normal operation. through the comparative simulation with PI type power stabilizer under various system operating condition, the efficiency of fuzzy stabilizing controller with respect to nonlinear power system is verified.

  • This paper presents a new eigenvalue sensitivity analysis method based on AESOPS algorithm. The additional calculation steps are derived from the original AESOPS algorithm. The additional calculation steps are performed directly from the AESOPS algorithm after iteratively calculating electro-mechanical oscillation modes in small signal stability problems. Owing to the structural characteristics of partitioned sub-matrix of state space equations, the partial differentiation terms of system state matrix for obtaining eigenvalue sensitivity indices can be calculated very simply. By the method presented in this paper, the AESOPS algorithm can be used in controller design problem as well as analysis of small signal stability problem.

  • In this paper, the RCF(Resistive Companion Form) analysis method which is used to analyze small signal stability problems of non-continuous systems including switching devices. The RCF analysis method is mathematically rigorous and computes eigenvalue of the system periodic transition matrix based on discrete system analysis method. As an effect of switching operations, the eigenvalues of the systems are changed and newly unstable oscillation modes may be occurred. As an illustrating example, the oscillation modes of the system with different switching time intervals are computed exactly by the RCF analysis method and the results show that ON/OFF time intervals of switching equipments are important factors to make the system stable or unstable. This result shows that the RCF analysis method is very powerful to analyze small signal stability problems of power systems including switching devices such as FACTS equipments.
