  • In order to assure the quality of the bent axis design axial piston pumps driven by tapered pistons, it is necessary to know the characteristics of force applied to tapered pistons and the mechanism for driving the tapered pistons. Since they are able to perform both reciprocating and spinning motions in cylinder block, it is difficult to understand the driving mechanismand-tomeasure the forces applied to tapered pistons experimentally In the present study, the theoretical mechanism for driving the tapered pistons is studied by use of the geometric method. The driving area of the tapered pistons is measured by measuring the strain of a cylinder forced against a tapered piston using an electric strain gauge and a slip ring. The forces applied to tapered pistons is also investigated with the change of discharge pressure and the rotational speed. As a results of this investigation, it is concluded that the cylinder block is driven by one tapered piston in a limited area and the driving area is changed due to space angle of the tapered pistons and the swivel angle of the cylinder block. It is also observed that the force applied to tapered pistons increases as the discharge pressure and the rotational speed increase.

  • This paper proposes an enhanced Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) algorithm based on matching laser image and Extended Kalman Filter (EKF). In general, laser information is one of the most efficient data for localization of mobile robots and is more accurate than encoder data. For localization of a mobile robot, moving distance information of a robot is often obtained by encoders and distance information from the robot to landmarks is estimated by various sensors. Though encoder has high resolution, it is difficult to estimate current position of a robot precisely because of encoder error caused by slip and backlash of wheels. In this paper, the position and angle of the robot are estimated by comparing laser images obtained from laser scanner with high accuracy. In addition, Speeded Up Robust Features (SURF) is used for extracting feature points at previous laser image and current laser image by comparing feature points. As a result, the moving distance and heading angle are obtained based on information of available points. The experimental results using the proposed laser slam algorithm show effectiveness for the SLAM of robot.

  • This paper describes an Integrate Dynamic Control system with Brake System (IDCB) for SUV vehicles. The system was developed to stabilize the lateral dynamics, maintain the steerability and improve the ride comfort on various roads. A fuzzy logic control method is used to design the IDCB. The performance of the IDCB is validated under different road and driving conditions. The results show that the IDCB tracks the reference yaw rate under all tested conditions; in addition, it reduces the body slip angle and roll angle. When a vehicle runs on a split-${\mu}$ road and a brake input is applied, the IDCB virtually eliminates the lateral dynamics. Thus, the IDCB improves the lateral stability, preserves the steerability and enhances the ride comfort of vehicles.

  • Mg and Mg alloys are promising materials for light weight high strength applications. In this paper, grain refinement of pure Mg using severe plastic deformation was tried to enhance the mechanical properties of the hard-to-deform metallic material. The microstructure and the mechanical properties of Mg processed by equal channel angular pressing(ECAP) at various processing temperatures were investigated experimentally. ECAP with channel angle of $90^{\circ}$ and corner angle of $0^{\circ}$ was successful at $300^{\circ}C$ without fracture of the samples during the processing. The hardness of the ECAP processed Mg decreased with increasing ECAP processing temperature. The effect of temperature on the hardness and microstructure of the ECAP processed Mg were explained by the dislocation glide in the basal plane and non-basal slip systems and by the dynamic recrystallization and recovery.

  • Tire is one of the most important to drive cars. There is high possibility to occur slip phenomenon and to increase braking distance depending on tire wear. Therefore, you should be check tire wear and replace tires periodically. In the past, most people manually check the wear level and judged whether or not to replace the tire. But, since the standard is different for each person, the replacement cycle becomes unclear. Since a clear replacement cycle is established, it is expected that the accident rate of a vehicle caused by a tire will be reduced. Therefore, i propose detection method for a tire wear using a motor rotation angle.

  • In the previous paper (Hyun et al.,2002), we have investigated the shape of storage modulus (G') and loss modulus (G") of complex fluids under large amplitude oscillatory shear (LAOS) flow. As the strain amplitude increases, owever, the stress curve becomes distorted and some important information may be smothered during data processing. Thus we need to investigate the stress data more precisely and systematically. In this work, we have obtained the stress data using high performance ADC (analog digital converting) card, and investigated the nonlinear response of complex fluids, 4wt% xanthan gum (XG), 2 wt% PVA/ 1 wt% Borax, and 1 wt% hyaluronic acid (HA) solutions, using Fourier transformation (FT) rheology. Comparing the strain signals in time domain with FT parameters in frequency domain, we could illustrate the sensitivity and importance of FT rheology. Diverse and unique stress patterns were observed depending on the material system as well as flow environment. It was found that they are not the outcome of experimental deficiency like wall slip but characteristics of the material system. When nonlinear response of complex fluids is analyzed, the intensity and phase angle of higher harmonic contributions should be considered together, and the shape of the stress signal was found to be strongly dependent upon phase angle.ngle.

  • X-ray diffraction method detects change of crystal lattice distance under material surface using diffraction angle 2$\theta$. This technique can be applied to the behavior on slip band and micro crack due to material degradation. The relation between half-value breadth and number of cycle has three stages which constitute rapid decrease in initial number of cycles, slight decrease in middle number of cycles and rapid decrease in final number of cycles. The ratio of half-value breadth takes a constant value on B/B$_{0}$-N diagram with loading condition except early part of fatigue life. The ratio of half-value breadth B/B$_{0}$ with respect to number of cycle to failure N$_{f}$ has linear behavior on B/B$_{0}$-log N$_{f}$ diagram. Therefore, in this paper the estimation of fatigue life by average gradient method has much less estimated mean error than the estimation of fatigue life by log B/B$_{0}$-log N/N$_{f}$ relation.elation.ation.

  • Based on the effective stress principle, a new formula for shear strength of unsaturated soil is derived under the general nonlinear Mohr-Coulomb (M-C) strength criterion to improve the classical strength criterion of unsaturated soil. Meanwhile, the simple irrigation model under steady seepage is adopted to obtain the distribution of the matrix suction or the degree of saturation (DOS) above the groundwater table in the slope. Then, combined with the improved strength criterion of unsaturated soil and the simple irrigation model under steady seepage, the limit equilibrium (LE) solutions for the unsaturated slope stability are established according to the global LE conditions of the entire sliding body with assumption of the stresses on the slip surface. Compared to the classical strength criterion of unsaturated soil, not only the cohesion soil but also the internal friction angle is affected by the matric suction or the DOS in the improved strength criterion. Moreover, the internal friction angle related to the matric suction has the nonlinear characteristics, particularly for a small of the matric suction. Thereafter, the feasibility of the present method is verified by comparison and analysis on some slope examples. Furthermore, stability charts are also drawn to quickly analyze the unsaturated slope stability.

  • In the midst of accelerating wars around the world, unmanned robot technology that can guarantee the safety of human life is emerging. ERP-42 is a modular platform that can be used according to the application. In the field of defense, it can be used for transporting supplies, reconnaissance and surveillance, and medical evacuation in conflict areas. Due to the nature of the military environment, atypical environments are predominant, and in such environments, the platform's path followability is an important part of mission performance. This paper focuses on reducing the minimum turning radius in terms of improving path followability. The minimum turning radius of the existing 2WS/2WD in-wheel platform was reduced by increasing the torque of the independent driving in-wheel motor on the rear wheel to generate oversteer. To determine the degree of oversteer, two GPS were attached to the center of the front and rear wheelbases and measured. A closed-loop speed control method was used to maintain a constant rotational speed of each wheel despite changes in load or torque.

  • Strip drawing of strain-hardening, viscoplastic materials with damage is analyzed by a rigid plastic finite element method. A process model is formulated using two state variables, one for strain hardening from slip dominated plastic distortion and the other for damage from growth of microvoids. Application of the model to aluminum strip drawing is given via implementation in a consistent penalty finite element formulation. The predicted density changes as a result of void growth are compared to those from experiments reported in the literature. The effects of drawing conditions such as drawing speed and die angle on the mechanical property chages are studied.
