  • In general, calcium is required for the reaction of blast furnace slag fine powder and fly ash. The by-products generated during the process of producing recycled aggregates have different calcium contents depending on the crushing stage and the possibility of using the process by-product as a concrete mixture is also different. In this study, the effect of the calcium content of the by-products on the compressive strength was investigated and the block was fabricated by using this. To utilize the by-products as an admixture, the calcium content was analyzed and the bending strength and surface temperature were measured according to the shape of the water storage block. As a result of this study, the possibility of making a block using recycled aggregate by-products was verified and arch type block was constructed to secure storage capacity and bending strength. Also, the surface temperature of the water storage block was reduced by $9^{\circ}C$ or more than that of the general permeable block.

  • This study aimed to develop non-sintered cement that could replace portland cement which emits large amount of carbon dioxide during firing process. For this purpose, ground granulated blast furnace slag, type c fly ash and slaked lime were used. In addition, through the experimental results, the characteristics of the non-sintered cement binders according to the mixing ratios will be identified, and the utilization plans for the precast concrete products will be presented. In this experiment, non-sintered cement binders using industrial by-products were prepared to compare the flexural strength and compressive strength of each of the 3, 7 and 28 days. As a result, the results satisfy the KS of the target product proposed in this study. Therefore, this study presents the possibility of using precast concrete products by developing non-sintered cement binders using industrial by-products.

  • In this study, the applicability and reproducibility of laser induced breakdown spectroscopy(LIBS) for heavy metal analysis in clinker and 5 types of by-products(crushed stone sludge, blast furnace slag, steel slag, waste concrete sludge, bottom ash) were experimentally reviewed. As a result of ICP-MS, XRF, and LIBS analysis of the six samples, the difference between ICP and XRF was confirmed in the quantitative analysis, but the LIBS analysis showed a difference by element from the standard analysis, and only qualitative analysis of the sample was possible. LIBS analysis wavelength was set for three types of heavy metals(Cd - 214.44nm, Pb - 405.78nm, Hg - 253.65nm). As a result of laser irradiation on the surface of the membrane impregnated with a solution of each concentration(1~1000ppm) and dried, the correlation between the spectral intensity and the concentration was confirmed.

  • This paper evaluates the mechanical properties and durability of cement matrix blended with mineral admixtures and ferronickel slag(FNS) powder which is an industrial b y-product during ferronickel smelting process. The hydration heat, pore structure, compressive strength, length change, rapid chloride penetration test(RCPT), and freezing and thawing resistance of ternary blended cement matrix were investigated and compared with ordinary portland cement matrix. The result showed that the compressive strength of ternary blended cement matrix using ferronickel slag powder and mineral mixture was low in strength compared to the reference concrete, but recovered to a certain extent by using alkali activator. Length change of cement mortar using FNS powder have shown less shrinkage occurs than the reference specimen. In addition, irrespective of using the alkali-activators, all ternary mix are indicative of the 'very low' range for chloride ion penetrability according to the ASTM C 1202, and the freeze-thaw resistance also showed excellent results.

  • In this study, we conducted the kinetic hydration modeling of OPC and the final product according to the substitution ratio of GGBS by using the geochemical code, GEMS, in order to calculate the thermodynamic equilibrium. The thermodynamic data was used by GEMS's 3rd party database, Cemdata18, and the cement hydration model, the Parrot & Killoh model was applied to simulate the hydration process. In OPC modeling, ion concentration of pore solution and hydration products by mass and volume were observed according to time. In the GGBS modeling, as the substitution rate increases, the amount of C-S-H, which contributes the long-term strength, increases, but the amount of Portlandite decreases, which leads to carbonation and steel corrosion. Therefore, it is necessary to establish prevention of some deterioration.

  • This experimental study considers manufacturing method of the non-portland cement matrix for the light-weight building materials using blast furnace slag, paper ash, fly ash and polysilicon sludge the industrial by-product. For the experiment, we used paper ash by means of the foaming agent and alkali activator to make non-portland cement light-weight matrix. Various specimens were prepared with different types and addition ratios of the alkali activator. Then, the properties of these specimens were investigated by compressive strength test, bulk specific gravity. As a results, it was judged that experiment results of non-portland cement matrix with specific waste resources and alkali activators were useful as basic data for mixtures design and evaluation properties of lightweight non-portland cement building material.

  • Globally, there are environmental problems due to greenhouse gas emissions. $CO_2$ emissions rate of the cement industry is very high, but the continued demand of cement is needed in the future. In this study, in order to reduce the environmental impact of $CO_2$ emissions from cement production. The experiments were carried out for the development of non-sintered cement (have not undergone firing burning) by granulated ground blast furnace slag. In order to compare the characteristics by curing, an experiment was conducted by changing the curing conditions such as atmospheric steam curing, observe the mechanical properties for the measurement of flexural compressive strength by mortar, observe the chemical properties such as acid resistance, $Cl^-$ penetrate resistance and analyzed the mechanism of hydration by XRD, SEM experiments. From the experimental results, as compared with portland cement usually confirm the mechanical and chemical properties excellent, it is expected be possible to apply to the undersea, underwater and underground structures that require superior durability. In addition, based on the excellent compressive strength by steam curing, it is expected to be possible to utilize as a cement replacement material in the secondary product of concrete. In the future, to solve the problem through continued research, it will be expected to reduce the effect of environmental load and to be excellent economics.

  • Waste concrete powder(WCP) is a secondary by-product generated while processing waste concrete manufactured to coarse and fine aggregates for concrete. In order to assess the possibility of using WCP as admixture for self-compacting concrete, self-compactability, compressive strength and durability of self-compacting concrete containing waste concrete powder were investigated. Experimental results of this study appeared that in case of SCC mixed with WCP only, self-compactability and compressive strength decreased with increasing mixing ratio of WCP. When Blast-furnace slag(BFS) was added to SCC, self-compactability and compressive strength for a unit amount of cement increased. Also, SCC containing 15% BFS and 15%, 30% and 45% WCP, the dry shrinkage and carbonation depth appeared a tendency to decrease with increasing mixing ratio.

  • This paper presents experimentally investigated the effects of pozzolan made from various by-Product materials on mechanical properties of mortar. Fly ash(FA), slag (BFS), and palm oil fuel ash (POFA) were partially used to replace Portland cement. The results suggest that mortars containing FA, BFS, and POFA can be used as pozzolanic materials in making concrete with 28day compressive strength. After curing, the mortar containing 10-30% FA or POFA, and 30% BFS exhibited compressive strengths that of the original Portland cement (OPC). The use of FA, POFA, and BFS to partially replace Portland cement has evaluation method of the Assessed Pozzolan-activity index.(API)

  • A by-product, waste sludge water produced from ready mixed concrete(remicon) factories may affect our environmental contamination if it is discharged without proper waste disposal. In Korea, all waste sludge water has been recycled in the way of mixing water of remicon, but the quality of the concrete then produced can be deteriorated, so it might cause slump loss or irregular compressive strength. In this study, waste sludge water is divided into two parts, remicon sludge and residual water in order to make it's property more stable. Then, the remicon sludge and high-alkaline residual water were used as admixture and alkali activator respectively. In this paper we research about quality of with remicon sludge and residual water and performed the fundamental properties of cement matrix mixed with remicon sludge and residual water.
