A comparison study of approximate and Monte Carlo radiative transfer methods for late type galaxy models

  • Two major radiative transfer (RT) techniques have been developted to model late-type galaxies: approximate RT and Monte Carlo (MC) RT. In the approximate RT, first proposed by Kylafis & Bahcall, only two terms of unscattered (direct) and single-scattered intensities are computed and higher-order multiple scattering components are approximated, saving computing time and cost compared to MC RT. However, the approximate RT can yield errors in regions where multiple scattering effect is significant. In order to examine how significant the errors of the approximate RT are, we compare results of the approximate RT with those of SKIRT, a state-of-the-art MC RT code, which is basically free from the approximation errors by fully incorporating all the multiple scattered intensities. In this study, we present quantitative errors in the approximate RT for late type galaxy models with various optical depths and inclination angles. We report that the approximate RT is not reliable if the central face-on optical depth is intermediate or high (${\tau}_V$ > 3).

A Study on the Costumes from Excavation in Gapyeong Jeonju Lee's Tomb (가평 전주이씨묘 출토복식 고찰)

  • In 1995, the costumes were restored in an unknown woman's tomb at the Jeonju Lee's family cemetery in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi-Do, and there are currently nine items remaining. In this study, we first introduced these 9 relics to academia and analyzed the morphological characteristics of the costumes. We also estimated the time and person of burial compared with costumes unearthed from other burials. Jeogories (short jacket) are all four items. One of these items was unusual in shape, and the upper part of the seop (gusset) was wrinkled and shaped. This type of Jeogori appears only till the 1520s in other tombs. There are also two skirts, one of which is characterized by a superimposed pattern. The top and bottom / middle part of the skirt were rolled up, and the skirt, which was double-rolled up in this way, was first discovered. An analysis of the shape of Jeogori and skirt indicated that the person buried in the Jeonju Lee's family tomb was believed to have survived until the early 16th century. Based on these estimated periods, as a result of looking at the genealogy of Jeonju Lee's family, it was concluded that the tomb was probably a woman named Lee Geum Myeong (李金命) born in the mid-15C and died between the late 15C and the early 16C.

  • It was aimed to study the costume of Koryo dynasty based upon the thirty pictures of Bud-dha to hang on the wall among the existing Buddist paintings. The costume to study were made about 64 years during the King Chung-yol(1286) to the King Chung-jong(1350) which style was mostly related in Won Dynasty. 가) Men's wear ; 1. Hair style and hair dress ; Man tied up a top knot and they put on the hat such as a Kuan Kun and Mo. The young boys binds his hair up one, two, and three knot-s, and tied up with a hair ribbon, A kinds of Kuan-mo were Mine-lu-kuan Yuan-yu-kuan, Nong-kuan, Hae-chi-kuan Pok-du Yun-wha-kuan Yip-mo- and Tu-ku(Helmeto) 2. clothes ; 1) Colour of Koryo King's Mien-ku Kuan costume was not agree with blue and reddish black colour which was used in Yo, Song, Kum and Won Dynasty, however black and greenhish blue colour was agreed with. 2) The king wore T'ung-t'ien-kuan(Yuan-yu-kuan) and the government officials wore Chin-hien-kuan Hae-chi-kuan and Nong-kuan as a court dress. In general the king and the Crown Prince wore a hats which was used in T'ung-t'ien system however sometimes they wore small hats which was cited in literature. 3) Gate guard and upper garment wore colourful costume figured gold colour pattern which was distin-gtive costume system of Koryo. 4) A monk wore big sleeve long skirt big sleeve long jacket long skirt and shoulder scar-f full shoulder scarf or right hand shoulder opened scarf. 5) The Soldiers wore helmet shoulder or scarf pee-back hung-kap, pok-kap, yang-dan-g-kap we-yu-kap kun-kap, and boots and they carried arms. 6) The young boys wore scarf, loin cloth, long skirt, belt neckless, wan-silk, boots and foots wear and wristless. 나) Women's wear ; 1. Hair style and hairs and tied up with a hair ribbon and wore precious ston decorated hair dress wheel shape hair dress pan shaped head dress handkerchif covered hair dress decorated precious stone hair pin silk chippon made of head dress muf-fler shaped hairdress. Boots mocasin hae lee, suk and sandle wored as a shoes depends on the classes. They wore neckless, earing wres-tless and wan-pu-sik. 2. A Study on the Detail Preference of Girls One-piece Dress - Focus on 3 to 6 Years Old - (여아의 원피스 드레스 디테일 선호도 - 만 3~6세를 중심으로 -)

  • This study was to investigate the preference tendency by detail and material preference of summer one-piece dresses for the children, and evaluation standard of children's wear in purchasing one-piece dresses as an object of mothers who have girls as buying representatives of children's wear in order to supply real information of design about the one-piece dresses for the girls in accordance with the consumers' demands. The results of this study revealed that the one-piece dress was favorite one to them in purchasing their summer wear. This study showed tendency that the more the mother's fashion interest was, the more the mother's preference on the one-piece dress was. As to the material preference of one-piece dress, it preferred the natural fiber to the synthetic fiber much, and the preferred customer order in purchasing one-piece dresses for their children was analyzed as activity, material, design collar, and pattern. As to the preference by form factor of one-piece dress, it preferred A-line silhouette in the silhouette, natural waist in the waist position, 5~7cm from the knee in the length of one-piece dress, and flared skirt in shape of skirt. The preference on the collar type was soutien collar, and the preference on the neckline type was round neckline. In addition, the preference on sleeve form was shirtsleeve, and the preference on trimming was lace trimming.

A Study on the Image Perception in Accordance with Changes in Design Elements of Children's Dress - Focusing on Mothers of 5~6 Year-Old Female Children in Gwangju - (아동 드레스의 디자인 요소 변화에 따른 이미지 지각 연구 - 광주광역시 만 5~6세 여아 어머니를 중심으로 -)

  • The necessity on children dresses for cultural events and emotional aspects in designs have become important according to the development of kids industry and revitalization of party culture, and so grasping emotional requirements of consumers (image perception) is necessary actually. For the purpose of this research, the study used 27 color pictures on the whole bodies of preschool children who wore children dresses that mixed clothing design factors differently (sleeve, skirt length, waist line, materials, color, decoration type and location) through a survey. Regarding the survey objects, this study objected preschool children of 5~6 years old girl's mothers who lived in Gwangju Metropolitan City, and its results were same as follows. First, the mothers evaluated children dresses like 'beautiful,' smart,' 'cute,' 'tidy' images. Second, sleeve, waist line, skirt length, materials, color, decoration type and location appeared to clothing cues affecting influences to overall image perception of children dresses, and decorations were implicated as salient cues that affected greater influences to image perception of children dress wearers than other clothing design factors especially. Based on the research, this study expects that various forthcoming researches have been made continuously, and it could become a guideline for the development of children dress industry afterwards.

The Comparison of Filter Performance in UFMC systems (UFMC 시스템에서 필터성능 비교)

  • UFMC is known as a candidate for the 5G wireless communication system because it is robust against ICI and better performs in asynchronous situation than OFDM. In the UFMC system, the filtering is performed for each subband so the performance of the filter is very important. The Dolph-Chebyshev filter has been used in conventional UFMC system because of its small out-of-band radiation. However it has distortion in the sub-band and skirt characteristics is not good enough. Therefore, it is necessary to study a new type of UFMC filter which reduces the distortion in the subband and has sharp skirt characteristics. In this paper we analyze the effect of filter frequency response in UFMC system and suggest the wavelet based type of filter that substitutes the Dolph-ChebyShev filter used in the conventional UFMC system. The simulation results show that wavelet filter has better BER performance in multipath fading channels than conventional filters.

A Study of Lower Body Shapes of Plus-sized Women to Index (지수치를 이용한 Plus-size 여성의 하반신 체형 연구)

  • The purpose of this research is to define low body shapes of Plus-sized women at ages between 21 and 69 whose satisfied the Plus-sized judgment criteria took part in this study. This research also classifies different body types, and provides basic data for designing skirt's and slacks' prototypes according to each body type. Based on factor analysis of the measured data, seven key factors are grouped. And four different body types are classified based on the cluster analysis using factor marks. Type 1 refers to those who are tall in stature and balanced. This body type is characterized by trapezoid body shape when looked from the front, and slim the abdomen, bulge the belly and flat the buttocks when looked from the side. Type 2 refers to short and an obese body shapes, with trapezoid front and bulge abdomen and belly and flat the buttocks. Type 3 refers to those who are of medium height and long-legged body shapes, with rectangular front, protruding belly and buttocks. Type 4 refers to obese body shapes, with rectangular front, protruding abdomen and belly, flat the buttocks. 9 items are available to judge Plus-sized women's low body types and the hit ratio is 93.5%.

  • In this study, it was experimentally confirmed that the phenomenon of resonance effect of wave drag in two wavy walls. The channel had saw-tooth type of relief surfaces when supersonic gas flows into this channel. Experiment was carried out on the differential apparatus by conducting the comparative test of two nozzles (round sonic nozzle and two-dimensional nozzle with wavy walls). The two-dimensional nozzle was joined alternately with flat walls which had saw-tooth type of symmetrical and asymmetric reliefs. Two-dimensional nozzle was designed for the M=3 and profiled parabolic contour.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the general distribution trend of drapery according to the material of flare skirt and the body size. 100% polyester and 100% rayon fabrics were chosen to compare the effect on the material type. The results from this study were as follows. (1) Both materials generally had similar trend of drapery (2) The difference of material influenced the shape and the amount of drapery. The amount of drapery in polyester was more than the one in rayon. (3) Rody size didn't significantly influence the shape of grapery. So it is concluded that material type is more important variable than the body size for the drapery.

New Design for Jacket-type Offshore Wind Turbine Support Structure for Southwest Coast of South Korea

  • The Korea Offshore Wind Power (KWOP) cooperation is planning to construct offshore wind energy farms with an overall rated power of 2.5 GW along the southwestern coast by 2019. Hitherto, various structural types of support structures for offshore wind turbines have been being proposed, but these structures have lacked economic analysis studies. Therefore, their economical superiority to existing types has been difficult to guarantee. An offshore structure with economic efficiency will have a minimum amount of mobilizing equipment and short offshore construction period because of the application of rapid installation methods. Thus, the development of a new support structure with economic efficiency is generally considered to be necessary. Accordingly, this paper proposes a newly developed and more economical jacket type for the offshore support structure. This study confirmed its structural safety and performance by conducting a structural analysis and eigenvalue analysis. The manufacturing and installation costs were then estimated. As a result, the new jacket type of offshore support structure proposed in this study significantly reduced the manufacturing and installation costs. Therefore, it is expected that the proposed jacket will contribute to reducing construction expenses for new wind power farms and invigorating wind power farm businesses.
