  • Korean isolate, porcine epidemic diarrhea virus (KPEDV-9) was adapted through serial passages in vero cell. The viral yield reached up to $10^{5-6}$ $TCID_{50}/ml$ at the passage level of 90th. The cell adapted virus was characterized through genetic and morphological examinations. The RNA extracted from virus infected cell revealed the presence of RNA band with molecular size of >20Kb. The electron microscopic examination on purified virus showed the pleomorphic appearance of enveloped particles with 5-10nm surface projections, which fit with the shape of coronavirus. The etiological survey on swine diarrhea by immunofluorescence test(FA) indicated 17.5% positive rate on the PEDV infection. In addition, the incidence were detected both in piglets within two weeks old as well as fattening pigs. Serological survey by ELISA revealed the overall 45% positive result, thus, indicating the PEDV infection are widespread throughout this country.

  • ZnO thin films were grown on a glass by RF sputtering system with RF power 100W and oxygen partial pressure of $0%{/sim}30%$. Elliptic constants were measured by using a phase modulated spectroscopic ellipsometer and analyzed with the Tauc-Lorentz dispersion formula and best fit method in the range of 1.5 to 3.8eV. Also, scanning electron microscope(SEM) was used for the analysis of surface crystallization condition. From elliptic constants spectra, optical constants, thickness and roughness of ZnO films were evaluated. Total thickness of ZnO films obtained by ellipsometry showed good agreement with SEM data. It was found that the grain size of the films were getting smaller with increasing oxygen partial pressure. Band-gap of ZnO films increase with the oxygen partial pressure. These findings clearly indicate that optical properties of ZnO films are strongly dependent on the oxygen partial pressure. It could be explained that increasing the oxygen partial pressure induced high crystalline imperfection in the ZnO films.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a skirt pattern drafting method for korean women between the ages of $18\~24$ on the basis of their physical charcteristics which differs from those of other races in its size and figure. The study procedures and results were as follows; 1. Ten types of convantional skirt patterns were collected and compared to determine the essential measuring items for skirt construction, and to discover what problems are involved. 2. Fourteen items of KIST measurement data were analysed for correlation coefficients, to establish representative items and independent ones. 3. Front waist length and back waist length were additionally measured for supplementary data. 4. A new skirt drafting method was developed based on the results of the pattern comparison and the data analysis. 5. A sensory evaluation was applied to evaluate the new method comparing it with the most widely accepted conventional pattern. An original rating scale was developed for the evaluation and an expert panel consisting of five members judged each shell from 12 subjects by random selection. According to a statistical analysis of the result of the 17 items on the rating scale, 14 items showed significant differences (${\alpha}\leqq$0.01 or ${\alpha}\leqq$0.05) between the two, with the new pattern having better fit. The new pattern drafting method proved to be superior to the conventional one especially in the fitness at the back hip, dart length, side seam balance, and the ease for daily activities.

  • The development of three-dimensional (3D) printing technology is bringing new innovations to various fields such as health care, architecture, and fashion. 3D printing can be manufactured to suit the size of the consumer's body, modify the design to meet their tastes, and produce small quantities of various products. Therefore, 3D printing in the field of fashion has great potential. The purpose of this study was to investigate various application models of 3D printing for fashion design and analyze their characteristics after developing the fashion garment samples. First, the background of 3D printing was reviewed then, fashion designed by a 3D printing application was analyzed. As a result, four types of 3D printing applications were developed: object-attached, linkage, kinematics, and assembly. The object-attached type was the method of printing 3D material as an object in the intended shape and form and was attached to the garment by sewing. The linkage type referred to printing 3D material in small pieces of certain shapes that could be linked. The kinematics type was structures with hinges that could flex to fit the human body. The assembly type referred to developing 3D materials in female and male pieces such as nuts and bolts. By providing the advantages, disadvantages, trial-and-errors, and challenges of the 3D printing fashion design process, this study contributes to the effective applications and possibilities of future design.

  • This study investigates the different characteristics (mainly of community life) in representative intentional communities, between the ecovillage and cohousing, since the different purpose of the establishment of the community might result different characteristics. The study method is data analysis: the analysis material is Community Directory, A Comprehensive Guide to Intentional Communities and Cooperative Living (Rutledge, 2005). Of 750 listed communities, 397 (211 ecovillages and 186 cohousings) communities were analyzed. The findings of the study reveal that there are clear differences of community life between ecovillages and cohousings even though two communities are regarded as similar intentional communities. The similarities between the two communities are as follows: 1) Those mostly distributed in the USA, and established before 2000. 2) Dominant size of intentional communities is less than 20 residents and 20 houses. 3) They make decisions in consensus. 4) They eat together very frequently; at least once a week or more. 5) Shared work is required. The differences between the two communities are as follows: 1) They have different aims of establishment. For instance, ecovillage focus more on eco-living, while cohousing focuses more on the cohousing idea. 2) There are more female residents in cohousings than in ecovillages. 3) There are more cohousings in urban areas with a smaller area of land, contrary to that there are more ecovillages in rural areas with larger areas of land. 4) There are less identified leaders or leadership core groups in cohousing than in ecovillages. 5) Income sharing is more common in ecovillages than in cohousings. According to there findings, it is evident that a different purpose of establishment result in different characteristics of community life even though those belong to the similar category of the intentional community. Thus, it is recommended to adapt the correct characteristics that fit the aim of the community in the establishment an intentional community Topics and discussions about establishing intentional Topics and discussions abut establishing intentional communities could contribute to gather the intentional communities could contribute to gather the interests communities could contribute to gather the interests of residents as well as those of relevant civil-workers and administrators in Korea.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study is to use finite element analysis to predict the fatigue life of an implant system subjected to fatigue load by mastication (chewing force). The reliability and the stability of implant system can be defined in terms of the fatigue strength. Not only an implant is expensive but also it is almost impossible to correct after it is inserted. From a bio-engineering standpoint, the fatigue strength of the dental implant system must be evaluated by simulation (FEA). Material and Methods Finite element analysis and fatigue test are performed to estimate the fatigue strength of the implant system. Mesh of implant is generated with the actual shape and size. In this paper, the fatigue strength of implant system is estimated. U-fit (T. Strong, Korea, internal type). The stress field in implant is calculated by elastic-plastic finite element analysis. The equivalent fatigue stress, considering the contact and preload stretching of a screw by torque for tightening an abutment, is obtained by means of Sine's method. To evaluate the reliability of the calculated fatigue strength, fatigue test is performed. Results: A comparison of the calculated fatigue strength with experimental data showed the validity and accuracy of the proposed method. The initiation points of the fatigue failure in the implant system exist in the region of high equivalent fatigue stress values. Conclusion: The above proposed method for fatigue life estimation tan be applied to other configurations of the differently designed and improved implant. In order to prove reliability of prototype implant, fatigue test should be executed. The proposed method is economical for the prediction of fatigue life because fatigue testing, which is time consuming and precision-dependent, is not required.

  • Biocompatibility of dense synthetic hydroxylapatite is well known and the direct bond with adjacent bone developed. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the potential of clinical application of tooth ash for preservation of alveolar ridge. For this purpose the author performed an experimental implantation of the particulate and root form of both pure dense hydroxylapatite and tooth ash in alveolar sockets immediately after extraction. The pure dense hydroxylapatite was particulate form and root form made by Calciteck Inc. The tooth ash was prepared by incineration at $950^{\circ}C$, and the syrindrical form of the tooth ash was sintered and trimmed to fit the size of the each extraction socket of 10 mongrel dogs. After sugery the clinical, roentgenographical, and histological observation was carried out. The results obtained were as follows; 1. Clinical observation disclosed no dehiscence and exfoliation due to tissue rejection. 2. Vertical resorption of alveolar bone occurred in all experimental sockets as well as the control sites on the roentgenograph. 3. Osteoclastic activity appeared at the inner surfaces of the crestal alveolar bone on the 1st week but disappeared on the 2nd week. 4. There were macrophages in the particulate form on the 1st and 2nd week after surgery but no macrophages appered in the root form. S. New bone formation was developed from the bony wall of experimental sockets and grew to bond with the implant materials. In particulate form the new bone formation did not occur in central zone independently. 6. Tooth ash implant sites were covered with the newly formed bony trabeculation from third week, but Calcitite particles were covered with soft tissue. 7. Generally the healing occurred more rapidly in control sites than in implant sites.

  • Purpose: It is to compare and evaluate the change of the wear rate and phase variation of the Zirconia before and after the sintering after the grinding by a high speed equipment manufactured for the Zirconia. Methods: The specimen of the sintered Zirconia was manufactured as size of $15mm{\times}15mm{\times}2mm$. The grinding has been applied to each of all pieces of each test groups for a minute fit for each condition at same speed of 50,000 rpm by a diamond bur at high speed handpiece with injection of the air and water. For the observation of the surface before and after the sintering of the each test piece, the cross section of it was observed as 100 magnification by a scanning electron microscope after it was coated by PT, and the diffraction analysis was performed by XDR to compare the crystal phase of the Zirconia. The average surface roughness value of all specimens were evaluated. The wear test was performed at room temperature by applying a load of 1kg for 120,000 cycles for the chewing period 6 months. Wear was analyzed for the enamel cusps by measurement of the vertical substance loss with a laser scanner. Conclusion: The phase variation from the tetragonal phase to the monoclinic phase was confirmed in the test group of the pre-sintered Zirconia after the grinding, and the value of the surface roughness and the wear rate was increased in experimental group.

  • This research aims at developing the dress form for the aged women based on their body shapes using the three-dimensional body scan data with the body shape categorization(according to the previous research). To accomplish this goal, the sample group of representative body shape of the 50% of median was selected by using the high frequency proportion range of each type of body shape of the aged women, and the sample group of representative body shape of each type was averaged in a three-dimensional way by using the morphing method of a three-dimension reverse-engineered software. RP in the form of torso was produced based on the shape data of the final model and the data was formed into an actual object, by which an aged women's dress form model was drawn out. The differences of the girth of the bust, hip and waist between the developed dress form model and the existing dress form model were examined. The result showed that the developed dress form had a bigger size of waist girth than that of bust and hip girth, compared to the existing dress form, which shows that it reflects the aged women's tendency of abdomen obesity, so it's expected to be more proper for the human bodies of the targeted age group than the existing dress form. These research results may help design the clothing suitable for the body shape of the aged women so that their demand for the clothing of good fit will be satisfied in the future.

  • The purpose of this study was to make a pants pattern suitable for women 70 to 85 years of age, then analyze that- pattern's shape, size, appearance, fit, allowance and air gap. Participants made the pattern using 3D simulation program DC Suite version 5.1. The results suggest a design method suitable for the lower-body shapes of elderly women. In external appearance, the A-type earned the highest evaluation in all items except the allowance of the back waist and back hip. The L type earned the highest evaluation in the allowance of back waist and hips. The A-type's, back waist appeared set at an angle that did not match the body shape of an old-old aged woman in the center-back-line setting. Therefore, the pattern method of A-type combined with L-type's method of center back, produces an excellent pants pattern. Evaluation of the air gaps among patterns revealed that; the A-type showed the largest air gap in waist and hip circumference and the smallest air gap in thigh circumference. The waists, abdomen, and hip circumferences of older women often become larger while their legs become slimmer. This study accounted for those factors in determining a pattern suitable for the lower-body shape of old-old aged women. However, participants only analyzed four patterns and compared them with women 70 to 85, years of age. Therefore, it is necessary to develop industrial patterns applicable to a wide age group.
