  • We diagnosed on status and problems of environmental assessment regarding development of offshore wind power, and also on reasonable core assessment items. Most of the coastal wind power are located on the western coastline of Korea and Jeju Island. In the selections of the site for the offshore wind farms, a previous investigations should be conducted with regard to distances from the land, stabilities from external forces (tide, wave, etc.) and topographical changes, and characteristics of the surroundings (distributions of protected area, fishing ground, artificial seagrasses, and shipping traffic). It is needed to assess dispersion of suspended solids, changes of the sea bottom, and impacts on fisheries resources and fishing activities under construction of offshore wind power. Furthermore, the responses of marine organisms to noise and vibration, impacts by electromagnetic fields, impacts on sea birds, hindrances to sea lane routes, and damaged scenery and marine protection areas are thoroughly assessed during operation processes. The consultation criteria in case of development of offshore wind farm is adjusted by focusing marine environmental impact assessment.

  • Prestressed concrete (PSC) members are readly available in civil engineering applications due to the convenience of construction and easy of quality control in the manufacturing process of the member. Especially, half-depth precast concrete composite slab, which is one of the PSC flexural members is developed recently using the long-line method. The half-depth precast concrete composite slabs are composed of the precast concrete and the in-situ concrete placed at the site. In this paper, we present the results of experimental investigations pertaining to the pretensioning efficiency and the flexural behavior of half-depth precast concrete composite slab which is made of precast PSC manufactured by the long-line method. In the long-line method, the pretensioned precast member is manufactured simultaneously, by tensioning tendons at once. In addition, we suggest the equation that can estimate the flexural strength of half-depth precast concrete composite slab reasonably by considering the effects of rebar embedded in the precast PSC flexural member.

  • ○ ○ tunnel that is located at Iksan - Jangsu freeway ○ ○, has collapsed during construction at the valley with shallow depth. Although, the site investigations, such as TSP, drilling exploration and so of indicated the presence of discontinuities in this section. The RMR was upgraded and the construction were carried out because that not only actual rock qualities were relatively good during construction but also the tunnel foe was stabilized. However, the tunnel was collapsed at the same time blasting of full face, and surface and underground water was infiltrated due to the settlement of the upper part of the tunnel face. To restore the collapsed section, 3-d tunnel stability analysis was performed and suitable reinforcement methods were chosen. The cavity of the upper tunnel face was stabilized by means of UAM and ALC injection. And the settlement was restored using L.W grouting method.

  • Objectives: The prevalence of work-related musculoskeletal symptoms (WMS) among Korean dairy farmers has not been investigated. The purpose of this study was to assess the prevalence of WMS and to evaluate the relationship between WMS and risk factors. Methods: Self-developed questionnaires including the questionnaire developed by the Korean Occupational Safety and Health agency (KOSHA) were used to investigate WMS among dairy farmers in Gyeonggi Province, Korea. We informed selected dairy farmers about the study and sent the questionnaires by registered mail. They visited a public health center nearby or a branch of public health center on the appointed date and skillful researchers identified or conducted the questionnaires by interview. We analyzed 598 (32.8%) of the 1824 dairy farmers. Multiple logistic regression was implemented to estimate the odds ratios of risk factors. Results: The mean age of the respondents was $50.4{\pm}8.7$ years and the proportion of males was 63.0%. The prevalence of WMS at any site was 33.3%. The prevalence of neck WMS was 2.2%, shoulders 10.0%, arms/elbows 5.0%, hands/wrists/fingers 4.2%, low back 11.5%, and legs/feet 11.7%. The adjusted odds ratio of low back WMS for milking 4 or more hours per day was 4.231 (95% Cl = 1.124 - 15.932) and statistically significant. Low back WMS (2.827, 95% Cl = 1.545 - 5.174) was significantly decreased by education. Conclusions: Low back WMS increased with milking hours and milking 4 or more hours per day was significantly associated with low back WMS. Low back WMS was significantly reduced with education. We hope that there will be increased attention about WMS in dairy farmers and the subject of future investigations.

  • The main purpose of this work is to analyse damages caused by debris flows during the heavy rainfalls at Inje of Kangwon Province, Korea. A series of site investigations have been carried out to survey the characteristics of debris flows occurred during the summer season of 2006. It has been found that major losses in human life and property are caused by discharge of soil and rock fragments from landslides. During the rainfall high precipitation rate of 113.5 mm/hour and 355 mm/day was recorded, which could happen at 80-500 year period. Comparing the rainfall record with the time of landslides being occurred, occurrence of the landslides is directly related to heavy rainfalls. At present, several debris barriers have been built at the valleys and natural slopes have been protected by the seed spray method. It is intended to propose an alternative of restoration of landslide damages and maintenance based on findings from the current study.

  • Due to muddy water from the highland fields upstream of Soyangho Lake, the Mandae, Gaa, and Jawoon have been redesignated as NPS management areas. This study aims to evaluate the adequacy and supplementation points of the implementation plan by analyzing the operation status of muddy water generation and reduction facilities through on-site investigations by NPS management area to achieve the effective nonpoint pollution reduction goal in the implementation of the implementation plan established in 2020. The SS load calculated based on the survey results from July to October 2019 from 2017 showed a decreasen in 2019 compared to 2017. Both and the Jawoon were analyzed to have decreased. However, the amount of precipitation also decreased by about 27%, so it was judged that the effect of the reduction project was not significant. As a result of the detailed investigation of abatement facilities, about 86% of the 793 facilities installed in the management area were evaluated as 'good'. As a result of a detailed investigation by subwatersheds, subwatersheds 105 and 106 in the Mandae were analyzed as apprehensive subwatersheds. appeared to fall. In addition, it was analyzed that the effect of reducing muddy water in the Mandae district was insufficient due to the high ratio of leased farmers, lack of efforts to reduce turbid water in leased farmland, conversion to annual crops, and neglect of bare land. In the case of Gaa district, although the abatement facilities are concentrated in the upstream, muddy water was also found to be severe.

  • This study examines the policy direction for energy self-reliant islands using marine energy. In other words, it was suggested that the environmental characteristics of the ocean should be considered by conducting a strategic marine environmental impact assessment when establishing an energy-independent island project plan. It was also suggested to proceed with preemptive site selection. In particular, it was emphasized that continuous monitoring of the marine environment should be carried out during the construction and operation of the marine energy development project. In addition, I emphasized the need to seek ways to expand marine environmental impact data and to actively participate and support the residents of the island, which is important in promoting self-reliant islands using ocean energy. This can be said to have a high probability of success when the government-led smart grid project group and KEPCO collaborate with each other. The results of the study analyzed through literature review are as follows. First, active participation and support for initiatives led by residents are needed. second,. KEPCO must collaborate with specialized public institutions such as the Smart Grid Project Group. Third, a strategic marine environment impact assessment should be introduced. Fourth, continuous marine environmental impact investigations should be conducted.
