  • This study carried out to investigate selection response of pure line population of layer chicken. Data for two layer pure line of Single Comb White Leghorn were collected from 1986 to 1991. Primary selection criteria were egg number to 270 days of age (EN270), egg weight(BW270), body weight (BW270) at 270 days of age and the days of the 1st egg(SM). The results obtained in this study are summarized as follows ; 1. Mean phenotypic values of two strains were decreased by 1.94 day(K), 1.320ay(F) for SM and increased by 0.09g(K), -0.05g(F) for EW 270 and 0.56(K), -0.78(F) for EN270. 2. The ratio of a realized selection differential to expected selection differentials for SM (sexual maturity), EW 270, and BW 270 were not significantly decreased during 5 generations. 3. Heritability were estimated from sib analysis. The means of estimates were 0.28(F), 0.39(K) for BW270, and 0.25(F), 0.29(K) for EN270 and 0.51(F), 0.48(K) for EW270. 4. The genetic gains were estimated by method of selection index in retrospect on the basis of selection differentials. EN270 and EW270 were found to increase by 2.01(F), 2.25(K) and 0.54 (F), 0.65(K) per generation.

  • The human genome has evolved as a consequence of evolutionary forces, such as natural selection. In this study, we investigated natural selection on the human genes by comparing the numbers of nonsynonymous (NS) and synonymous (S) mutations in individual genes. We initially collected all coding SNP data of all human genes from the public dbSNP. Among the human genes, we selected 3 different selection groups of genes: positively selected genes (NS/S${\geq}$3), negatively selected genes (NS/S${\leq}$1/3) and neutral selection genes (0.9

  • This study proposes a data-mining analysis method for examining variable multi-attribute big-data, which is considered to be more applicable in social science using a Correspondence Analysis of variables obtained by AIC model selection. The proposed method was applied on the Seoul Survey from 2005 to 2010 in order to extract interesting rules or patterns on characteristics of single household. The results found as follows. Firstly, this paper illustrated that the proposed method is efficiently able to apply on a big dataset of huge categorical multi attributes variables. Secondly, as a result of Seoul Survey analysis, it has been found that the more dissatisfied with residential environment the higher tendency of residential mobility in single household. Thirdly, it turned out that there are three types of single households based on the characteristics of their demographic characteristics, and it was different from recognition of home and partner of counselling by the three types of single households. Fourthly, this paper extracted eight significant variables with a spatial aggregated dataset which are highly correlated to the ratio of occupancy of single household in 25 Seoul Municipals, and to conclude, it investigated the relation between spatial distribution of single households and their demographic statistics based on the six divided groups obtained by Cluster Analysis.

  • This paper proposes a tabu search (TS) algorithm to optimal weight selection in design of robust H$_{\infty}$ power system stabilize. (PSS), In H$_{\infty}$ control design, the weight selection and the representation of system uncertainties are the major difficulties. To cope with these problems, TS is employed to automatically search for the optimal weights. On the other hand, the normalized coprime factorization (NCF) is used. The H$_{\infty}$ controller can be directly developed without ${\gamma}$-iteration. Also, the pole-zero cancellation phenomena are prevented. The performance and robustness of the proposed PSS under different loading conditions are investigated in comparison with a robust tuned PSS by examining the case of a single machine infinite bus (SMIB) system. The simulation results illustrate the effectiveness and robustness of the proposed PSS.

  • In order to guide users to select the most optimal access network in heterogeneous wireless networks, a network selection algorithm is proposed which is designed based on multi-objective discrete particle swarm optimization (Multi-Objective Discrete Particle Swarm Optimization, MODPSO). The proposed algorithm keeps fast convergence speed and strong adaptability features of the particle swarm optimization. In addition, it updates an elite set to achieve multi-objective decision-making. Meanwhile, a mutation operator is adopted to make the algorithm converge to the global optimal. Simulation results show that compared to the single-objective algorithm, the proposed algorithm can obtain the optimal combination performance and take into account both the network state and the user preferences.

  • Recently, ordinary mail is decreasing continuously by the development of ICT (Information and Communications Technology) including E-mail, messenger service, and etc. On the contrary, parcel post is increasing by the increase of online shopping, home shopping, and etc. Aside from these changes, the demand for various mail acceptance and delivery means is increasing with the increase of single households and dual-income couples. To overcome these environmental changes, Korea Post installs unmanned post offices which are composed of various unmanned mail acceptance and delivery postal systems. In this paper, we propose the methodological approach for the site selection of unmanned post office among the existing post offices and the installation standard of unmanned postal system considering the operation cost by the mail volume.

  • This paper investigates two-hop extension communication in wireless body area networks. Many previous studies have demonstrated that two-hop extended topology outperforms single-hop topology. Although many researchers have proposed using two-hop extension communication to improve link reliability, no one has considered using a relay selection algorithm or provided a suitable solution for wireless body area networks. The design goal of the proposed algorithm is selecting a proper relay node to retransmit failed packets distributively. The proposed algorithm configures the carrier sensing period to choose one relay node promptly without requiring additional interaction. We analyze the link conditions corresponding to various body postures and investigate which factors are proper to determine the carrier sensing period. The empirical results show that the proposed algorithm reduces the expected number of transmissions required to deliver a packet successfully.

  • Classification method of cancers using cDNA microarrays data was developed using genetic algorithms and neural networks. For gene selection, 2308 genes were ranked using genetic algorithms, and selected by frequency number of selection from 1000 of genetic iterative runs. To calculate fitness values, artificial neural networks are used as classifier. The small, round blue cell tumors (SRBCTs) which is difficult to distinguish via pathological single test was used as test diseases for classification, and the test results showed the 96% of exact classification capability for 25 test samples.

  • Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D) is a complex diabetes disease that is caused by high blood sugar, insulin resistance, and a relative lack of insulin. Many studies are trying to predict variant genes that causes this disease by using a sample disease model. In this paper we predict diabetic and normal persons by using fisher score feature selection, chi-2 feature selection and Logistic Regression supervised learning algorithm with best accuracy of 90.23%.

  • The strengths of two-photon transitions from the ground state to excited vibronic states in benzene are calculated by using the CNDO/2-U wave functions. The role of vibronic coupling in two-photon absorption process is discussed. The $A_{1{\bar{g}}}-A_{2g}^+$ two-photon transitions, which are forbidden by the identity-forbidden selection rule in single frequency two-photon absorption, are too weak to be experimentally observed even when two photons of different energies are used. It is because the transitions are forbidden also by the pseudo-parity selection rule which are applicable for alternant hydrocarbons such as benzene. It is also shown that the vibronic coupling is not very effective in altering the pseudo-parity property of the electronic state. The strength of the vibronically induced two-photon absorption is strongly affected by the presence of an electronic state from which two-photon absorption can borrow the intensity. It is pointed out that the pseudo-parity selection rule may be violated in such cases.
