  • Two-stage power factor correction (PFC) converter with a single PWM controller is proposed. It consists of a power factor pre-regulator cascaded by an isolated DC/DC converter as in a conventional two-stage approach. However, a single PWM controller is used as in a single-stage, single-switch PFC approach. This converter gives the goof power factor correction, low line current harmonic distortions, and tight output voltage regulations. This converter also has a high efficiency by employing an soft switching method. The proposed approach has advantages such as high performance over the single-stage approach and low cost over two-stage approach. The experimental results obtained on a 300W (30V/10A) prototype PFC converter are given to verify the effectiveness of the proposed control method.

  • In this paper, we develop a single wheeled robot that has one wheel to move. The single wheel robot is similar to a rolling disk relying on gyroscopic motions to balance. The Gyrobo consists of three actuators: a spin motor, a tilt motor and a drive motor. The spin motor spins a flywheel at high rate so that it provides the balancing stability to upright the robot. The tilt motor controls steering of the robot by gyroscopic effect. The drive motor make forward accelerated motion to the robot. We have built and tested the Gyrobo to turn and move forward.

  • The liquid limit(LL) test is universally used as a standard test for determining one of the index properties of a clay. There are two methods of determining the LL, Casagrande method and cone penetration method that is fall cone test. The interpretation of the Casagrande method of obtaining the LL is not obvious, but it has been suggested that the fall cone test is essentially a strength test and that the LL test simply ascertains the moisture content at which a clay has a certain standard undrained shear strength. This paper presents a determination of the LL by a single-point method. Results obtained from fall cone that is general method and a single-point method are analyzed by comparison.

  • Comparison of one two-path single energy recovery circuit for plasma display panel (PDP) is shown in this paper. A single energy recovery circuit (SERC) is proposed to reduce cost for manufacturing PDP and there are two ways, one and two-path, in driving this circuit. Compared with one-path SERC, there are low power consumption, low surge current and high performance in two-path SERC. The results will be shown with 42-inch HD panel.

  • The experiments of the Aerodynamic characteristics of a counter-rotating axial fan were carried out. The performance tests of a single and a counter-rotating axial fan were carried out based on the Korean Standard Testing Methods for Turbo-fans and Blowers(KS B 6311). The performances of single and counter-rotating axial fans were obtained and compared with each other. The flow fields of a counter-rotating axial fan at the peak efficiency point were measured using a five-hole probe. As a result, compared with the performance of a single-rotating axial fan, that of a counter-rotating axial fan was superior. And it is confirmed that most of the swirl flow generated by the front rotor was eliminated by the rear rotor.
