A Case Study on Simplification Strategies of Logo Design from the Perspective of Gestalt Psychology

  • This paper delves into the application of Gestalt psychology principles in logo design. It analyzes how these principles refine design elements to bolster the efficiency and impact of visual communication. Drawing from Gestalt psychology perspectives, the theoretical foundations and application methods of logo design simplification strategies are discussed. Through the analysis of Gestalt psychology effects in various types and styles of logo designs, this study compares the applicability and differences of logo design simplification strategies under different cultural and social contexts. Furthermore, it evaluates their role and value in enhancing the innovativeness and communicative impact of logo designs. The findings suggest that strategies informed by Gestalt psychology significantly improve the organization rules within logo designs, such as the relationship between figure and ground, proximity, similarity, and continuity. Thereby they enhance perceptual clarity, cognitive load, and aesthetic satisfaction. Moreover, these strategies promote creative thinking and problem-solving abilities in logo design. The results indicate that simplified design methods not only enhance aesthetic appeal but also improve the adaptability and recognizability of logos across different media and environments. This approach aligns with the minimalist and flat design trends of today's information age, meeting the evolving needs and aesthetic preferences of consumers.

지형 데이터의 효율적 단순화 (Efficient Simplification of a Height Map)

  • Presented in the paper is a procedure to extract simplified triangular mesh from a height map (terrain data). The proposed algorithm works directly on a height map that extracts a simplified triangular mesh. For the simplification, the paper employs an iterative method of edge contractions. To determine an edge to be contracted, the contraction cost of an edge is evaluated through the QEM method. Normally, an edge contraction will remove two triangles sharing the edge. Although the edge contraction can be implemented easily on a triangular mesh, it is not viable to implement the operation on a height map due to the irregular topology. To handle the irregular topology during the simplification procedure, a new algorithm is introduced.

  • 차세대 원자로 설계의 특징중 하나로 설계 단순화를 들 수 있다. 이 논문에서는 설계 단순화에 관련된 의사결정을 지원하기 위하여, 특히 화학 및 체적 제어 계통의 단순화를 정량적으로 평가할 수 있는 모델을 제시하고 있다. 본 연구에서는, 지금까지 연구되어 온 모델들과는 달리 화학 및 체적 제어 계통이 주변 다른 계통들과 기능적으로 어떻게 접속하고 있는가에 관심을 두고 단순화를 평가할 수 있는 모델을 개발하였다. 또한, 이러한 모델들을 System 80+ 그리고 KSNPP의 화학 및 체적 제어 계통에 적용하여 비교, 평가해 보았다. 평가 결과, CVCS의 복잡도는 주로 펌프의 종류와 수에 의존하는 것으로 나타났다.

철도 선형 복원을 위한 GPS 데이터 단순화 방법의 적용 (Application of the GPS Data Simplification Methods for Railway Alignments Reconstruction)

  • 본 연구에서는 GPS 측량으로 얻어지는 자료들을 이용하여 철도선형을 복원하고자할 경우 이들 자료로부터 불필요한 부분을 제거하고 위치정확도를 확보할 수 있는 방법을 찾고자 일반화 방법 중 4개의 알고리즘을 적용하여 분석하였다. 그 결과 단순화 알고리즘을 평가하기 위한 방법으로 선형요소의 복잡성은 실질적이지 못했으며, 선형요소의 위치 변위를 줄일 수 있는 방법으로 벡터 변위량과 면적생성량을 이용하는 방법이 효과적임을 알 수 있었으며, 이때 선형 단순화 알고리즘으로는 Douglas-Peucker방법임을 알 수 있었다. 또한 이 알고리즘을 이용하여 측정된 데이터를 단순화 한 후 철도 선형제원을 복원한 결과가 단순화를 실시하기전의 복원 결과보다 양호한 결과를 얻을 수 있었다.

  • 본 논문에서는 디지털논리회로의 설계에 있어 필수적인 카르노 맵 간략화 과정을 교육용 자바 애플릿의 형태로 구현하였다. 학습자는 구현된 자바 애플릿으로부터 흥미로운 학습을 경험할 수 있으며, 자바 애플릿 설계과정에서 교육공학적인 요소를 단계별로 고려하였기 때문에 학습 효율의 극대화가 가능하다. 학습자는 구현된 자바 애플릿으로부터 디지털 논리회로의 간략화 과정을 마우스로 버튼을 클릭하거나 텍스트를 채워가면서 웹상에서 가상실험을 진행한다. 또한, 간략화 과정에서 발생되는 논리식과 논리회로도는 학습자가 효율적으로 학습할 수 있도록 서로 다른 프레임으로 구성하였으며, 학습자가 구성한 논리회로도가 올바르게 구성되었는지 확인할 수 있도록 하였다. 마지막으로 본 논문에서는 수정된 Quine-McCluskey 간략화 기법에 기초하여 자바 애플릿을 구현하였기 때문에 오프라인 교육의 보조도구로서 사용된다면 학습효율의 향상에 기여할 수 있다는 것을 입증하였다.

  • This paper presents a method to convert 3D CAD model to an appropriate analysis model using wrap-around, smooth-out and thinning operators that have been originally developed to realize the multi-resolution modeling. Wrap-around and smooth-out operators are used to simplify 3D model, and thinning operator is to reduce the dimension of a target object with simultaneously decomposing the simplified 3D model to 1D or 2D shapes. By using the simplification and dimension-reduction operations in an appropriate way, the user can generate an analysis model that matches specific applications. The advantage of this method is that the user can create optimized analysis models of various simplification levels by selecting appropriate number of detailed features and removing them.

Mesh Simplification and Adaptive LOD for Finite Element Mesh Generation

  • In this paper, we propose a new triangular finite element mesh generation method based on simplification of high-density mesh and adaptive Level-of-Detail (LOD) methods for efficient CAE. In our method, mesh simplification is used to control the mesh properties required for FE mesh, such as the number of triangular elements, element shape quality and size while keeping the specified approximation tolerance. Adaptive LOD methods based on vertex hierarchy according to curvature and region of interest, and global LOD method preserving density distributions are also proposed in order to construct a mesh more appropriate for CAE purpose. These methods enable efficient generation of FE meshes with properties appropriate for analysis purpose from a high-density mesh. Finally, the effectiveness of our approach is shown through evaluations of the FE meshes for practical use.

  • This paper describes a new practical simplification method for feature-based solid models. In this approach, a solid model created using feature modeling operations is first simplified by the suppression of detailed features, and then, if necessary, the model is converted to a surface model to facilitate its modification. Finally, the simplified surface model is delivered to analysis packages. The algorithm was implemented based on CATIA V.5 and applied to mid-surface generation of plastic parts for structural analysis to prove the validity and usefulness.

  • The structural stress and fatigue behavior of tensile specimen containing internal shrinkage defect were modeled. Real shrinkage defect in casting was scanned by industrial CT (computed tomography), and subsequently its shape was simplified by ellipsoidal primitives for the structural analysis (S.S.M., shape simplification method). The analysis results were compared with the results by real shrinkage shape without any simplification process. It was possible to consider real shrinkage of casting in stress analysis and the method to predict fatigue life of casting with defect was proposed.

허용 가능한 LOD의 상하한을 고려한 특징형상 3D CAD 조립체 모델의 단순화 (Simplification of a Feature-based 3D CAD Assembly Model Considering the Allowable Highest and Lowest Limits of the LOD)

  • Three-dimensional (3D) computer-aided design (CAD) models require different levels of detail (LODs) depending on their purpose. Therefore, it is beneficial to automatically simplify 3D CAD assembly models to meet the desired LOD. Feature-based 3D CAD assembly models typically have the lowest and highest feasible limits of LOD during simplification. In order to help users obtain a feasible simplification result, we propose a method to simplify feature-based 3D CAD assembly models by determining the lowest and highest limits of LOD. The proposed method is verified through experiments using a simplification prototype implemented as a plug-in type module on Siemens NX.
